Classic Bob Moog Image Colorized

via The Bob Moog Foundation

On a meaningful anniversary, we remember Bob's life and legacy with a hand-colorized art poster

Memories weren't meant to be seen in black and white

In observance of the date of Bob's passing in 2005, August 21, we remember his life and legacy with a painstakingly colorized poster of a black-and-white photo of him, which we now offer as a collectible art poster available online.

"Every day, I try to seize new opportunities and realize my dreams by looking for people who inspire me to this day. Thank you, Bob Moog, for bringing me the sound of the future,” Dutch visual artist Leslie van Berkel said about the project. “Michelle Moog-Koussa has given me her trust to give her father's legacy a second life by displaying her memories in full color.”

A self-described fan of synthesizers and the Bob Moog legacy, van Berkel reached out to us regarding his desire to pay tribute with the colorization of a historic photo – with complete dedication to representing colors as they were the day the photo was taken.

Together, Leslie and our executive director, Michelle, chose one of the most iconic photos of Bob ever taken: a mid-'70s photo of the inventor striking a stoic pose in the back room of Moog Music, Inc. in Buffalo, NY; arms folded, surrounded by several of the iconic synthesizers he helped create.

Leslie corresponded with Michelle on the exact color and texture of the shirt Moog is wearing in the photo, using rare photos from the Moog Family Archives as a reference for his skin, hair, and eye color.

“Your detailed description of your father's shirt gave me goosebumps,” van Berkel emailed as they collaborated across time zones. His colorized image is historically accurate down to Michelle's recollection of the exact shades of blue-gray in the stripes of Bob’s button-down shirt.

This 18 x 24 serigraph is printed on heavy stock art paper by Matt Pflahlert of The Silent P. Big Moog love to Leslie van Berkel for the donation of his time and talent! We are honored to remember Bob by offering a brand new way to experience this iconic photograph.

“Memories are not meant to be seen in black and white."

EthanJamesMusic Sequential Prophet 6 Tutorial Lessons

"This is a tutorial series for anyone who wants to learn how to do their own sound design using the Sequential Circuits (former Dave Smith Instruments) Prophet 6 synthesizer. The goal is to break this subject down into understandable and digestible bits of information that you can apply to your own electronic music. I am primarily a media or film composer, so we will learn ambient, techno, and EDM style sound design using the synth.
This eighth video shows how to use the arpeggiator and the misc parameters section. Please leave a comment with any questions or requests and a like if this was helpful."
