Morton Subotnick & Steve Horelick @ Brooklyn Synth & Pedal Expo (October 21-22)
Details follow:
"The Brooklyn Synth & Pedal Expo, a free for all interactive display of synthesizers and pedals of all kinds, will return to Brooklyn on the weekend of October 21st and 22nd in a new, larger venue in Greenpoint.
Hosted in a 6k sq ft warehouse in the heart of one of Brooklyn’s most musical neighborhoods located between Williamsburg and Queens, this year's event is expected to be attended by around 2k visitors. Pictures from previous editions can be found here [you can find some video coverage in previous posts here].
Morton Subotnick and Steve Horelick VIP Guest Speakers
The organizers are excited to announce the involvement in this year's expo of two legendary NY synthesists who will be hosting talks and a performance on Sunday 22 in the 70-seat theater embedded in the venue
"Buchla Focus" on Sunday October 22
The two presentations will be part of a 3 hour block from 12pm to 3pm on Sunday 10/22 dedicated to Buchla, which will also feature a Music Easel product presentation and an industry panel featuring the company owner Eric Fox among others.
The full program of talks and workshops can be found here.
Morton Subotnick, one of the pioneers in the development of electronic music and multi-media performance, is best known for his 1967 composition Silver Apples of the Moon, the first electronic work commissioned by a record company, and for his creative output linked to Buchla synths. He will host a talk about synthesis on Sunday October 22 in the early afternoon (schedule to be released soon). He will be the event's keynote speaker.
Steve Horellick is a tireless educator and acclaimed soundtrack composer (he wrote the Butterfly in the Sky song from PBS's Reading Rainbow). He is also known for his immersive, textural surround performances. At the Brooklyn event, he will perform using a hybrid setup of synth and pedals in surround sound. Steve will be hosting a talk/performance involving several synths (including Buchla) and some guitar pedals.
Eurorack Classes and GSG.live workshops
The schedule of the presentations will be also integrated by two Eurorack classes hosted by Ben Atchouel of the New York Modular Society and two workshops about online performances curated by the team at GSG.live.
Confirmed Vendors
Visitors will find a varied mix of companies, over 70, with almost all the heavyweight synth and pedal brands and several boutique builders, and also a selection of Eurorack and many pedal builders. Full list below.
Please find attached the event's flier.
This is a free event, anybody can RSVP here.

ASM Hydrasynth - Ultimate Pads Vol.1 Vid 2 of 2
video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds
"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk
The first Instalment of many for this synth, due to it's strengths and capabilities I have decided with this one to break the banks down into categories.
In this one it features 50 Lush, Warm, Emotive, inspiring Pads.
the initial test was to see how lush I could get the hydraynth to sound, and decided to do a full bank production ready and balanced levels.
This will work on any hydrasynth, anyone with a deluxe, i'd love to hear the pads layered :)
These pads are suitable for most genres, especially, film scoring, ambient, trance and any musical woks that require some evolving motion.
anyway, I hope you enjoy!
as always, many thanks for checking these out!

Bach Prelude 1 in C Major // Moog Matriarch
video upload by Wave Dash Magazine
"One of the most recognizable pieces written by Bach, performed on an analog synthesizer. The first piece in The Well-Tempered Clavier is a popular choice for kids and beginners, and due to its arpeggiated nature, I thought it would be fun to perform on a mono synth. Technically the song should be performed with the lowest two notes held for the duration of the arpeggio, but I opted to use the built-in delay to achieve a similar effect.
I found it surprisingly difficult to create an appropriate patch for this piece. Ultimately I went the route of simplicity, leaning on the quality of the raw tone of the Matriarch and focusing entirely on creating immersive, dreamlike dynamics via expression pedal and patch cables."

"Nearly mint Prophet-5 (rev 3) from 1982
This is an amazing vintage synth in immaculate condition. It works completely without any issues whatsoever, as if it were in a time capsule its whole life. It has the original factory patches inside, and I've verified that the cassette interface works. I cleaned the bus bar so that all keys trigger as expected. I am replacing the key bushings so that they are smooth and clean. It tunes and boots right up and all voices play perfectly. Unison mode is HUGE!
Cosmetically: the wood is without any blemishes whatsoever. All the knobs are fine, and all buttons work as expected. This is as mint a Prophet from 42 years ago as you will ever see!"

"Spelled Moroco and not Morocco. This is a fantastic dual multimode filter with 4 LFOs and 2 envelope generators and midi control. It seems there may have only been 8 made. The photos show one of 2 units we have - this may or may not be the one we sell, but they are in the same condition (just about perfect). Fully tested and working great. Not sure how to put on a price on such a rare item. Price will definitely be negotiable if it doesn’t sell for a while, though if you miss this one, it’s likely you won’t find another anywhere cause they’re that rare."
There have only been four posts prior to this one mentioning the Moroco. There was a video which is unfortunately gone. You can however see the original announcement post with digital flyer there. Only one other was listed for sale.

"This is the only one we've ever seen and we've seen just about everything / you won't find much info on this one, so it seems to be extremely rare. It's a single 19" rack space analog synth plus a 2 space knob box so you can easily create your own sounds. Sounds great, and is a nice alternative to the synths everyone else is using!"

"This unit came to us in relatively good working order, but these synths need a full restoration in order to work like new again and be as reliable as possible, so that's what we did. It's been meticulously cleaned inside and out and electronically refurbished so it's working exactly as it should, no surprises typical of most vintage synth purchases these days. We also took some important future-proofing measures, so it will hopefully outlast all others. This unit should tune better than all others too as it also includes our custom tuning stabilization modifications. This process took approximately 37 hours of valuable skilled labor which is of course factored into our price - you get what you pay for. This ob-xa contains a JL Cooper MIDI retrofit.

Here's a rundown of what our tech did - there could be more things left out:
Disassembled and cleaned inside and out
Keyboard mechanism rebuilt:
Old bushings removed and replaced with new bushings
Key guides adjusted
Bus bars cleaned
Key contacts cleaned
Keys cleaned and reinstalled
Replaced power supply caps, replaced IC socket, diodes, trims
Lots of molex connector terminals replaced
Jacks cleaned
All pots cleaned
VCO trimpots replaced for more stable tuning
Replaced most electrolytic capacitors
Recalibrated
Replaced 4053 logic IC chips x3
Replaced CV section TL082 IC chips x8
Replaced CA3080 VCAs IC chips in CV section x8
Replaced battery
Reloaded patch data
Replaced wooden sides
Repaired often defective pitchbend"
