Pittsburgh Modular The Toad - Phase Shifter Eurorack Module

Patch Lab with Richard Nicol video upload by Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers

The Toad was first mentioned in this SUPERBOOTH23 post.

via Pittsburgh Modular

"The Safari Series continues to provide artists with an advanced preview of innovative new concepts stemming from our research and design process. The seventh Safari Series reinvigorates the sound of one of our favorite vintage Pittsburgh modules.

Pittsburgh Modular The Toad phase shifter is a creamy, 12 stage, all analog effect module designed to expand on the classic swirls, rich swooshes, and doppler effects associated with the phaser.

The Toad has a single 12 stage audio signal path to create a very rich, full sound. Dual phased audio outputs are tapped from stages 7 and 12 and can be used together for wide, flowing, stereo effect. Each output has a switch that allows the phased signal to be mixed with a positive or inverted dry signal resulting in even more sonic flavors to melt with.

An attenuverting CV input and onboard triangle LFO allows for maximum flexibility for custom modulation options. Feedback can be positive or negative and The Toad is more than happy to self oscillate in either direction.

Price, Availability, and More Information
The retail price for Toad is $299 USD each. Because these modules are considered experiments, production has been limited to 200 modules."

Terry Riley, Keyboard Study no.1 (as generative modular patch)

video upload by Electrum Modular

"There are several modular synth renditions of Terry Riley’s 'In C' out there, but none (as far as I know) of his keyboard studies, so here goes…

Although Riley played this piece in 1964-65, he did not write it down until the 1990s, and only published it in 2015: https://www.boosey.com/shop/prod/Rile...

His instructions in this book are pretty cryptic, so I try to explain the piece at the beginning of the movie.

I tend not to use MIDI in my modular (except when connecting it to an iPad or keyboard etc), as it’s less malleable than CV. But Expert Sleepers’ addition of a 'MIDI Player' algorithm to the Disting EX gave me the idea to use multiple MIDI files in a more generative way. Thank you to the tireless Os at Expert Sleepers for solving my technical issues (see Disting EX forum on modwiggler).

Robert Carl’s book, Terry Riley's In C:

FWIW, my favorite piano recording of this piece is John Tilbury’s:
https://anothertimbre.bandcamp.com/al...
Released last year, but recorded 'in Hamburg in the late 1970s or early 80s—full details forgotten.'

DivKid 'Little Jinx Reel' // Performance on the Intellijel Cascadia & T Rex Replicator Jr.

video upload by DivKid

"Perfect Circuit asked me if I'd like to take part in their 'artist picks' gear of the year video for the end of 2023. I said yes, while pondering what gear has brought me joy and lots of nice music making this year ... that bit of gear was the Intellijel Cascadia, which I love coupling with FX but for this particular bit of music making I went with the T Rex Replicator Junior.

A joyous, feature packed and versatile synthesizer and a wonder of lo fi tape delay, a great pairing! So I made the video for Perfect Circuit, made some music, made a patch breakdown and also made a PDF Patchbook outlining all sorts about the patch, alternative gear, mastering electronic music and more. Scroll down for links to it all. Ta muchly!

"I'm using the Intellijel Cascadia and T Rex Replicator to perform a duophonic modular synthesizer patch with great warbling tape echo as a support FX."

"BONUS CONTENT //
As well as making the public patch breakdown video for this I have made a Patreon exclusive PDF patchbook that outlines the whole patch, performance controls, suggestions for alternative gear choices and mastering and producing music like this to be release ready. Access that here // https://bit.ly/DK-patreon"
