Dual Audio Mixer - Low-Gain Electronics | 4U Modular - Serge Modular

video upload by LowGainElectronics

"Dual Audio Mixer pcb is a go! Just need panels to arrive!
In this patch I’m just mixing 4 negative slews, and one ‘73 vcf in vco mode.. totaling a 6 voice drone. Because the mix bus is passive (buffered output of course) the signals fight against each other creating some really rich timbres!"

OP-X PRO-3 vs. Oberheim OB-X | Jupiter-8 | Prophet-5

video upload by SonicProjects

"SonicProjects OP-X PRO-3 comparison to Oberheim OB-X as well as Jupiter-8 and Prophet-5. Includes A:B tweaking as well as comparing cloned presets.

Setup:
Upper keyboard: Oberheim OB-X Rev.2 vintage built in 1980 equipped with 6 voices. The stereo output goes directly to input 1 and 2 of an RME Fireface UC which has very clean and neutral sounding converters. Signal directly recorded to disk.

Lower keyboard: E-MU Xboard 61 MIDI keyboard attached via USB to a MacBook Pro M1 2020 with macOS Ventura 13.4. The MIDI signal is driving OP-X PRO-3 which is hosted in Logic Pro. The stereo output of OP-X PRO-3 is directly recorded to disk.

Blue skin installed.

Parts:
00:00 A:B tweaking
10:51 Comparing presets
23:35 Jupiter-8
29:05 Prophet-5

Since no Jupiter-8 and and Prophet-5 were available this part of the comparison uses the excellent original factory presets recordings of Synthmania:

Priming PCMCIA SRAM Cards for the Korg Wavestation SR & 01/W Series Synths

The following, in via Neil Hetrick, is a more detailed update to this earlier post. via Neil: "I wanted to post this information regarding use of PCMCIA SRAM cards with the Korg Wavestation SR (and presumably also with the Korg 01/W series) in case it proves helpful for others trying to use custom waveform data with their synth.

It turns out that the synth requires that the PC Card be dual-mode, auto-switching 8-bit/16-bit. Currently-available (in 2023) PCMCIA SRAM cards are all single-mode, 16-bit only or 8-bit only, due to a specific chip no longer being available. After having trouble with a modern, 16-bit-only SRAM card, I received a tip-off from a kind fellow at Voice Crystal (they used to make custom soundware for many vintage Korg synths of that era) suggesting that the auto-switching functionality may be an important factor in getting a card to work with the synth. I subsequently found some forum info online relating a similar issue with PCMCIA cards in the Alesis Andromeda: About the 8-bit/16-bit dual-mode PCMCIA SRAM cards

DRUM MINT 83

via HOME BAKE INSTRUMENTS

DRUM MINT is a micro rhythm machine with 7 rhythm parts. It is also equipped with functions such as a hybrid sound source of analog modeling and PCM, a sequencer with 16 steps and 8 patterns, pattern chain playback, a flam function, and pattern muting. The DRUM MINT 83 not only improves sound quality thanks to a more powerful CPU, but also reconfigures it to make it easier to use for acid and house music. In addition, the built-in stereo delay makes it possible to express a wide range of expressions.

Coral got a new Engine! VCO Moog style Virtual Analog

video upload by OXI Instruments

"We kick off 2024 with a new sound engine available for Coral ! 🪸🪸

3x variable-saw virtual analog oscillators that seamlessly morphs from Triangle to Square waveforms with dynamic PWM capabilities. 2 of the 3 oscillators can be detuned in relation to the main oscillator.

The detuning controls (Harm and Morph) are finely calibrated to easily align with musical intervals, such as +7 and +12 semitones. This feature facilitates the creation of musically coherent detuning effects, while still providing the flexibility to detune by a few cents."

Why Use A Modular Synth For Techno Production? Feat LIL TECHNOBOX

video upload by Bilijie

"So why make Techno (or any type of music really) with modular synthesizers? We all know it's relatively expensive. You can't save presets and recreating past work is hard, if not impossible. It's cumbersome. It's tough to learn. Is it worth it?

When it comes to making music in 2024, we each choose between many different options in hardware and software, and on this channel we'll investigate more about these options and hopefully have some fun making tracks together.

Unlike a lot of techno production, this track is improvised on the spot. I have a few patterns loaded into Constellation (8 track trigger sequencer lower left) that I programmed minutes before recording. There's no post-mixing or effects. It's literally straight out of the box into a 2 track recorder.

I like working this way as it forces decisions earlier, and there's no room to make "fix it in post" changes. You either get it or you don't, for better or worse.

How do you like to make music? What do you use? What's your workflow or technique? How do you stay motivated and inspired? Please let me know in the comments... it's a major subject of this channel going forward and I'm very curious!"

Moog One sounds great!

video upload by SMV Producer

"Sound banks available at:

I made a sound like the one I made with the Quantum. But this time I added a third part, using the possibility that the Moog One gave me within third timbre.

Thank you."
