Synth Stuff Ep. 85 - Waldorf Blofeld

video upload by tritonrecordings

"It may just be my perception, but Blofeld seem to be a bit under the radar for most people. Maybe it's just because they've been around so long now, but definitely consider taking one for a test drive if you come across one. Its palette is wide, but of course it excels at digital, metallic, and icy sounds and textures. Editing isn't very hard to do and the modulation matrix was surprisingly powerful. If you've got analog ground covered and want a new dimension in your arsenal, these are pretty cheap these days, so check it out! I also recommend the Modal Argon for a similar vibe. "Absynth" by Darryl Peroni

video upload by Darryl Peroni

This one is in via supporting member, Darryl Peroni, who happens to be a photographer as well as a musician. The photo featured was taken by him years ago. The following is what he had to say about this particular piece:

"The track 'Absynth' comes from my debut album that slowly fell together over about 10 years. I would write, record, write, record... always in my spare time and without a purpose. The track was written about 35 years ago using the first synth I ever owned (a Roland JX-3P) and I still have the original demo recording on cassette. I started recording everything properly bit-by-bit; both old tracks from decades ago and new material I'd just written. Eventually, I had too many tracks just sitting around so I decided to make an album using some of my favourite compositions and the result, was my first release 'Used Music'. Thanks to online video editors, I was able to make a video for this track using nothing more than free video samples. Better late than never... it's been a great journey. Enjoy.

BENGE - FORMS16 Watercolour on Paper

video upload by Memetune Studio

"Music from the Serge Modular Paperface

This is an album exploring the interplay between random events and deliberate human intervention, something which, in the electronic music field, I call cybersynthesis. I saw it’s creation as being analogous to creating pictures using the medium of Watercolour, whereby the various pigments are allowed to flow randomly in water with the hand of the painter guiding the proceedings with an eye on satisfying various criteria. These criteria define the artist's intention. The work is the result

The music was made on the Serge Modular Paperface system, with most of the modules being made in the early-to-mid 1970s. However, one panel of the nine used is a modern unit formatted to the Serge standard, made by the British synthesiser manufacturer Loudest Warning. This panel was assembled on my instruction, a service happily provided by the manufacturer, and contains cybernetic functions that I felt were lacking in the other modules in my system, but which fit in with the spirit of the Serge. They were designed to aid in the composition of self-generating melodic and rhythmic patterns as found on this album

Note that the original paintings featured in this video are available to buy via Benge's Bandcamp page: https://zackdagoba.bandcamp.com/album..."

Jamuary#21 Glitchy cha-cha on the Novation Circuit MonoStation in Flip mode

video upload by Helluva Noise

"More Circuit MonoStation fun. I had a blast with this one. Nice and short, it's more-or-less a demo of what the MonoStation can do in Flip mode... but probably shouldn't.

I'll get back to the organic ambient jams soon, but for now, I'm having a blast playing with this funky little thing.

You’ve clicked on ‘Helluva Noise’. Thanks! There are no sponsors, I buy all my own gear and I have nothing to sell you. This is just the way I wind down after work, because making a Helluva Noise is fun… if you like that sort of thing."

Jamuary#20 Flipping out with Circuit MonoStation in flip mode... flipping noice!

video upload by Helluva Noise

"I was going to do an ambient drone today, but I just wasn't feeling it. So I got out the MonoStation and went into glitched out bliss.

This is almost a demo of the MonoStation's flipping awesome 'flip' mode. One modest, self-contained board can get close to what a decent-sized modular system could do. You have to put in the work though... which is fine if you like programming sequences in excruciating detail 🤓

"One synth challenge — today it's just the Model:Samples with a little mastering. Still can't fully get the hang of the workflow of this box, but it's pretty fun."

"Peter Blasser's Shbobo Shnth recorded with a bit of Electro-Harmonix's Cathedral reverb. The verb is turned off near the end of the demonstration so that you can hear the Shnth's dry output. The patch was included in the inforumers.zip file at Peter's synthmall.com/shobo website."
