The Electrosmith Daisy Seed is a powerful microcontroller for music applications. Together with Cleveland Music's 'Hothouse' DIY pedal kit, you can create your own DSP effects and digital synthesizers without resorting to 'breadboard' prototyping. Table of contents:

Sunday Jam #49 : Steamdrunk again (Amiga)

"A couple of weeks ago I set out to use it to make a track from some sounds I recorded [see this post]. I finished that in Logic Pro because of time but have now finished the Amiga (Octamed) version.
Here is the original .med file:

As mentioned in the video, it was saved by Octamed 4 and can be opened for editing in that application. Any music player on an Amiga or emulator should play it. There are tools that will play this format on modern computers. VLC can usually play .sid and .mod but sadly doesn't play this one properly on my Mac. I found foobar2000 did render it properly with the openMTP plugin."

Nick Klimenko had a great opportunity to play & record a Legend - almighty Oberheim OB-8.

Than we made a samplepack with 242 samples capturing synthesizer's authentic spirit.

And than we thought - why not to put these sounds in tiny MicroFreak engine and make presets?

New OS allows to load your own samples & put it through granular synthesis and it works great.

And result amazes us - vintage samples + MF organic analog filter done a real magic.

Thats how "Oberheim OB-8" Soundset was made.

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #135: Sonicware LIVEN Ambient Ø - Song 2

"This is the second recording with the Sonicware LIVEN Ambient Ø. It is a 10-voice, 4-layer synthesizer focussing on ambient, drones, soundscapes, etc. It shares the same platform than the other LIVEN.

I used for the recording the following FX pedals (FX from the LIVEN Ambient Ø are deactivated): Gamechanger Audio Auto Chorus, Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe, GFI System Specular Reverb 2.

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. On some tracks Compressor and EQ where added in Cubase. The final song was then mastered using iZotope Ozone.

Well, I decided to go back to the basics, but at the same time make something useful for the synth community and do a kind of competition (I like competitions;-). What's my best synth for ambient music :-)"

"I´ve decided to give Ambient some more attention before it's banished to the shelf by other things. This time with the support of Oxi One ... who contributes a semi-generative element and is much easier to sequence than the Ambient.

This time I also processed the sound with the Analog Heat, a touch of supermassiv reverb and a little Ableton vinyl in post ... besides the usual mastering
