Xaoc Skopje Explained — A Dual Quantizer with 10,000 Scales
video upload by SynthDad
"On the surface Skopje looks like a simple dual quantiser. Two knobs, two channels, two outputs. But the real power isn't on the front panel — it's on the SD card, where you can define your own scales, chord progressions and microtonal tunings as text files. 100 banks of 100 scales each. That's 10,000 possible scales, and you can build them yourself!
I've covered a lot of quantisers on my channel over the years; Quantermain, various Phazerville apps, and Skopje takes a genuinely different approach. Less going on at the interface, much more depth under the hood.
If you make any kind of microtonal music, or you want a quantizer that gives you real creative control over your scales, this one's worth a look.
In this video I start with the basics of how the quantiser works, then get into the more interesting stuff: using both channels together, playing chord progressions through the built-in Circle of Fifths bank, building your own custom scales in text files, the wrap and clip range limiter modes, and using EDO and Scala format microtonal scales.

OAM's Patience - A Eurorack LFO Module With a Cycle Rate That Can be Set for Decades
Folding & Unfolding Sine Waves w/ Patience and XPO video upload by Olivia Artz Modular
via Kickstarter
"Patience is an LFO that allows you to set the duration of a change in terms of seconds, minutes, hours, days, month, years, or decades.
Our thinking
Eurorack is widely considered to be an esoteric and expensive way to make music. That’s one framing. Another framing is that Eurorack is a mid-90s platform for modular electronic art that lasted. VRML came and went. RSS flourished and rescinded. Web pages don’t really use HTML anymore. But Eurorack is still. It is a time-tested and community-driven foundation for building conceptual art. For installation art. For slow art. In these contexts the modules that you already have can transform in meaning.
For instance, a clock divider may be used for tracking musical time and for building up musical rhythms. But if your clock divider has primes as an option and you trigger it once a day, the 7’s output will give you a pulse a week. Suddenly you’re patch-programming a calendar. You’re now keeping track of time on the scale of years. You’ve moved from the music of humans to the music of the seasons.
This is where Patience comes in. To help your patches operate at these time scales we made an LFO capable of making a single modulation over the course of hours, days, months, years, or even decades.
Why me
For more than twenty-five years I’ve been studying, designing, and programming systems for slow sound art. Under Pauline Oliveros I studied and practiced deep listening. I worked with Seth Cluett on glacial multi-channel performance systems. I’ve cared deeply about slow art my entire life. Patience is an expression of this and I will give it everything I have.
Why Kickstarter
If we know up front that we have guaranteed orders for Patience we can afford to dedicate the time that this idea deserves. Refining the design, circuitry, software, and assembly process. This is the only way we can foresee making the best possible version of Patience, so here we are.

Polysynthi Loops
video upload by Memetune Studio
"Here's a happy/sad tune on the ultra rare and quite exquisite EMS Polysynthi. Maybe only about 30 of these synthesisers were ever made, and probably just a handful are left in the wild. It came out in 1978 to rave reviews (https://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/em...) but then disappeared in spectacular fashion when other polysynths came to market around the same time (Prophet 5, Korg PS3100, Yamaha CS80, Polymoog, Roland Jupiter 4), most of which had huge corporate advertising budgets behind them. But the EMS had a number of unique things going for it, such as 49 note polyphony (albeit sharing one filter / VCA -- it is essentially paraphonic, like the Polymoog), 2 LFOs with a clever routing system, pressure sensitive keyboard, and a voltage controlled analogue delay section. But above all, it has a totally "of-its-time" sound like no other synth I know - it creates instant late-70s happy/sad tones like nothing else in my studio. And the other thing - JUST LOOK AT IT
This is a live performance using the Polysynthi and the Concrete Box (stereo loopers) to layer up multiple passes of melodies
As always, thanks for watching, and enjoy the tones"
