"Some machines are built to do a little bit of everything. This one was built to do exactly one thing, in the mid-90s, that one thing was the dancefloor.

Before the Orbit, E-Mu had been chasing real instruments: strings, pianos, upright bass, the works. Then they took all that sampling power and aimed it somewhere completely different, and out came the first module made purely for dance music. Techno, house, and a couple of genres you might not expect.

In this one I get into where it came from, what it actually sounds like as you move through the banks, and how I hooked it up to a sequencer to start putting a groove together. And then... I'll let the last few minutes do the talking. If you've ever wondered whether you could build a whole track out of one little yellow box, stick around to the end."

"Multitracked demo of the Roland Jupiter-Xm. All sounds come from factory presets, with only the onboard effects used.I spent very little time with the Jupiter-Xm and didn't even have time to take decent photos.

From what I noticed during my short test, its sound quality was on par with the individual Boutique synths."
