My New Moog - New Flickr Shot

Not mine. Just the name of the shot. Although I could probably build one in under an hour. ; )

Moog Voyager Editor

Update: In case you missed it on the Moog site, there is a Mac version as well.

Features a "Genetics" function that morphes two presets together into a whole new bank. There is a demo version on site. Title link takes you there. Via CDM.

Keith Emerson in action. Looks like he prefers wine over beer. Title link takes you there.

The Weevil and The Sonic Post

The Weevil: "Sunshine yellow with a massive contact plate ICON, the twin ring-mod lofi oscillators of the ICONsWeevil love to click, drone and squeal. Bend the sound in supr-extreme manners with the 8 copper contact elements - lick your fingers and allow the electrons to flow via your body, causing the oscillators to wail and fight each other. The low-power knob starves the battery supply, simulating a battery running out and leading to wonderful sonic circuit malfunctions." Title link takes you to more including The Sonic Post. Via Music Thing.

Colin's XoXBox number 173

Title link takes you to a couple of shots. Details and MP3s below. Thanks Colin!

CCJ_XOXJam.mp3
"a quick jam of my Box. You can here some of the mods in action, things a standard unit or 303 can't do :)"

CCJ_MiniMoog_fromXOX.mp3
"The Minimoog sequenced over CV/Gate from the unit. Halfway through I add the X0X ontop as well"

CCJ_XoXKeyboard.mp3
"You can the extra ENV mod range working here."

CCJ_MiniMoog_XOXed.mp3
"Now the Minimoog sequenced but run through the XOX's filter input. First you hear the XOX's VCO by itself, then I mix in the Mini's VCO, then i turn off the XOX's VCO and the fun begins. Now anything can be acidfied ^_^"

The back panel shows some of the mods - the top part of the back.
Left to right -

  1. on/off switch added

  2. hole to adjust the trimpot for the power supply warble mod. Goes from stock to 220R.
Set in the middle it sounds closest to a 303. Left in stock it sounds a bit closer, edgey, and tighter,
resonance not as nice. Set to the extreme, the sounds go more rubbery and mellow,
the resonance band gets more noticeable/wider like a Juno 106....

  3. switch to turn on/off the envelope modulation extra range. Very handy, you can do some sounds you can't get on a normal 303.

  4. empty switch, didn't end up using it to switch a mod

  5. turns the VCO on/off. Very useful for the filter input mod

  6. jack for the filter input - very handy for filtering stuff, that you sequence over CV/Gate to add the accent and 303 vibe.
Or just filter patterns when running the sequencer without the VCO etc

Mods that you can't see -

  1. Bass boost - drop the high pass filter down an ocatve. Hmm sounds much thicker, gives my Minimoog and Sh2 a run for the bass money :)

  2. High beta transitors for the VCO and Filter

  3. allow the Env mod to be set to zero

  4. wider filter cutoff range, goes from subsonic to near ultrasonic now

I haven't thought much about video synthesis but this shot sparks my interest. Kicking back and playing video on my laptop while sequencing sounds just seems like it would be fun. Via Sonic State.

Free Moog Sonic Infinity DVD

Apparently Moog Music is launching a "Sonic Infinity" ad campaign and part of it is a free DVD. You send them your address and they'll send you the DVD free. Title link takes you there.

"Moog Launches Sonic Infinity Ad Campaign

Sonic Infinity
This past December Moog launched a new ad campaign that you will see throughout the year... Sonic Infinity.

The campaign is designed to create awareness among non-Moog users that our gear is only limited by their imagination.

The first ad appeared in the December issue of Keyboard. The ad offered a new "Sonic Infinity" DVD featuring Moog Clinician and Product Development Consultant, Brian Kehew. The DVD was filmed at Asheville's premier night spot, The Orange Peel, where Brian conducted a Moog Clinic.

If you would like a copy of the DVD, they are free. Simply email sonic@moogmusic.com with your name and mailing address.

The campaign theme will be supported at both the Winter NAMM and the upcoming Musik Messe in Frankfurt as well as in Moog ads throughout the year. "

Update: Via ortho in the comments: "oh shit don't miss the other video on the page of HH and the Headhunters...towards the end Herbie whips out some Odyssey chops that are smokin. He ends it settin up the wind-whoosh sound that i think he's secretly controlling with a foot pedal. HOTT"

Bleeps and Bloops

I almost missed this one thinking it was Corky Burger's synth.com project.

From the bio of Bleeps and Bloops: "This journal is a chronicle of me building a modular synthesizer over the next year through Synthesizers.com's "Module of the Month Club." It will be updated approximately once a month with pictures, observations, and sound examples as each piece (module) of the synthesizer arrives and is incorporated into the ever-expanding system." Vocaloid

This is kind of interesting. Supposedly you can type in whatever words you want along with the notes you want played, and this software will sing it for you using recordings of actual singers to sythesise the singing. I wonder what kind of crazy samples you can create with this for further processing. Think about that for a bit. There are some trippy samples on site. Title link takes you there. Demo version here: Zero-G

"VOCALOID is a vocal-synthesizing software that enables song writers to generate authentic-sounding singing on their PCs by simply typing in the lyrics and music notes of their compositions. The software synthesizes the sound from "vocal libraries" of recordings of actual singers, retaining the vocal qualities of the original singing voices to reproduce realistic vocals. The software also features simple commands that enable users to add expressive effects - such as vibrato and pitch bends - to their synthesized vocals."

Apple Lemur?

Interesting. Music Thing has a post up on a patent filed by Apple for a multi-touch tablet device. With midi and the right software you basically have a Lemur. I wonder who if anyone owns the actually patent to a multi-touch screen. Standard tablet PC screens only allow one point pressure. Title link takes you to the post on Music Thing.
