Oberheim TVS Pro & OB-6 demo: Bladerunner

video upload by Andromeda Music

"A short, unscientific demo of sound. Both fantastic synths with different pros and cons, moulded from the same metal. Both going into an Eventide H9 Blackhole preset, no external processing. Thanks for watching my poor skills at Bladerunner :)"

Macbeth Synthesizer: Elements 2 (EL2) demo. Short demo. No talking.

video upload by Andromeda Music

"Quick noodle on the EL2 from Ken Macbeth. Sequenced by Orthogonal Devices ER-101/102 combo. What you hear are the dry outputs. No external FX, no post processing. Ableton record & bounce. Quite a beast of a machine and my desert island synth. Enjoy!"

Macbeth Synthesizer: Elements 2 (EL2) noodle. No talking.

video upload by Andromeda Music

"Second video and slightly longer than the first. A rudimentary sequence on the magnificent ER-101/102 combo. The purpose of the video is just to show how it sounds, without external FX, or any post processing. What you are listening to are the dry outputs. Enjoy :)"

Official Alesis Andromeda A6 Introduction Video (Synth Demo Promotional Reel) - VHS Source Copy

video upload by OldManZero

"I came across this old VHS that had an "introduction video" for the Alesis Andromeda synthesizer. The quality is OK, but there may be better sources out there as my copy was re-used. Under the labels for the promotional video, you can see that the tape was originally an Alesis Masterlink demo video. They just copied over it and added new labels.

The full video had this segment repeated over and over again for about an hour. I guess this was to play on screens at trade shows or music stores to drum up interest.

The demo sounds don't really hold up to today's standards or to what the A6 can actually do, but Alesis seemed to want to cater to the more upscale client that could actually afford the $3K price tag when it was released. (Think studio or session players.). So the sounds shown seem to cater to them. You do seem to hear a few snippets of actual crazy Andromeda sounds here and there though. What you see and hear here is peak late '90's/early 00's through and through."

After Hours from the Album Chromatic Lightning Cage by Dave Bessell."

"Dave Bessell | Chromatic Lightning Cage | DiN84

Limited to 250 copies Digipak CD

https://dinrecords.bandcamp.com

This new release from synthesist Dave Bessell sees him completing a quartet of albums loosely based on the Greek philosophy of the Four Elements, namely Fire, Water, Earth and Air. There’s certainly no doubting that “Chromatic Lightning Cage” with its vivid cover is referencing Fire. At times the ghost of Amon Tobin and Nils Frahm wander through the album but mostly it has its own distinctive voice which draws on a whole variety of influences. This one will repay repeated listenings. Lovers of Electronica, Downtempo, Ambient and Soundtracks will find much to admire in this new album and the music once again showcases the unique talent of this highly individual musician.

USA customers can save on postage by purchasing here.

EU customers can save on postage by purchasing here.

To coincide with the release of Chromatic Lightning Cage there will be 25% off all the other back catalogue Dave Bessell titles on DiN until the end of March. No need for a code, the prices have been adjusted accordingly.

ALESIS ANDROMEDA A6 - Ambient Chillout Jam (Step Sequencer)

video upload by synth4ever

"Alesis Andromeda A6 synth demo featuring an ambient chillout jam using the on-board step sequencer. The Alesis Andromeda is a very powerful analog synthesizer and the 16-step sequencer allows for intricate pattern building and layering, as it can be triggered per key to create different timings and offsets.

In this ambient chillout music piece I showcase the Alesis Andromeda A6's step sequencer and some interesting timbres via the dual filter setup, LFOs and delay effects. The music uses a repeating motif to showcase these aspects. Hope you enjoy the demo and jam."

Alesis Andromeda Sounds - Part 3 - Best Pad Machine?

video upload by Friendly Noise

Friendly Noise Alesis Andromeda posts

"Introduced in 2000, the Alesis A6 Andromeda was a real miracle in a music world without modern analog polysynths. All big polyphonic names were no longer in production and only available in the used or vintage market. Some loved the Andromeda, some hated it, most simply didn’t come to know it because of the Alesis name and the lack of music hits featuring this powerful polysynth. The Andromeda can be described equally as a polyphonic instrument and as a polyphonic modular synthesizer. That´s how complex or deep it can be.

The sounds are illustrated with pictures of my own Andromeda. There is no video, because those are old recordings, made long time ago before I started recording videos. The purpose of the recordings was exclusively for personal use, a way to remember sounds I liked. Some recordings may still be useful today in order to get familiar with the sound of the instruments. Some sounds use the internal effects, some use external processing.

UVI Mission 6 - Alesis Andromeda A6 Based Soft Synth

video upload by UVI

"Mission 6 - Analog Polysynth Revival
https://www.uvi.net/mission-6

Delivering the authentic hardware sound of an epic 16-voice analog synth, Mission 6 is a sound designers dream: experience a wide range of sounds, from vintage OB-esque tones to thick and gritty FM, lush filter-swept pads to bubbling leads and wild textures. A shapeshifting beast ready to inspire!

Video credits: Anthony Hak
Music credits: Théo G."

Details via UVI:

True Synthesizer Innovation
An epic instrument both in design and capability, this machine is an audacious synthesizer that seemingly came out of nowhere in 2000. A play on the word "ASICs", this beast took the world by surprise and redefined the capabilities of the analog polysynth, with 16 dual-osc, dual-filter voices using custom ICs, and 16 multitimbral parts.

An Analog Dream Machine
Capable of both cross and ring modulation, and loaded with both SEM and Ladder-style filters per-voice, numerous LFOs, highly-flexible envelopes, a powerful mod matrix, built-in effects, and generous hands-on control, this synthesizer is a sound designers dream, and to this day a potent, massively capable instrument that feels well ahead of its time.

Incredible Sonic Range
No matter how deep you go with the original hardware, it's hard to feel that you've done much more than scratch the surface; the number of tricks this synth can pull off and flavors you can create are nearly endless. That said, our sound designers had an absolute blast putting this machine through its paces, creating an incredible collection of sounds that range from vintage OB-esque tones to thick and gritty FM, lush filter-swept pads to bubbling leads and wild textures.

UVI Mission 6 | Layers
Find Inspiration With All-New Sounds
Mission 6 can easily find a home in anything from '80s era pop to modern genre, hip-hop, scoring, and more. We've included over 33,000 samples recorded directly from the hardware, packing Mission 6 with 400 presets made from 340+ layers, including categories such as Bass, Keys, Pluck, Strings, Polysynth, Leads, Vocals and more. Each sound in Mission 6 is fully-customizable, and can be used straight-away or as the starting point for a new sound.

Deeply Tweakable Architecture
Mission 6's aesthetic was adapted to closely follow the design cues of the hardware, giving you the feel of this radically styled instrument as you edit the dual-layer sounds. You'll find complete control over everything from oscillators, envelopes, multimode filters, LFO and step modulator, dual arpeggiators and a featured effect section including EQ, drive, Thorus, ensemble, Phasor, delay, and Sparkverb, all clearly labeled and easy to tweak.

Epic Analog at Your Fingertips
A true powersynth, Mission 6 delivers the sounds of that epic analog synthesizer and gives you a tremendous collection of all-new hand-crafted patches to explore, tweak, and inspire.

Analogue Synthesizer, Minimoog, Alesis Andromeda, Prophet 6, Macbeth M5, Eurorack

video upload by David Bessell

"Seventh Window - A track from the album Imaginator by Dave Bessell and Liam Boyle. You can find the full album here https://davebessellandliamboyle.bandc...
Released on Groove Unlimited.

The video is by Sam Cox and you can find his youtube channel here"

"Dave Bessell and Liam Boyle first met on Facebook through an interest in Node. Liam has a very wide range of mu-sical interests and skills including the classical avant garde so Dave invited him to a performance of one of his classi-cal modernist pieces for orchestra at Plymouth University. The two hit it off and first collaborated on a track called Theme One from Dave’s solo electronic album ‘Black Horses of the Sun’. It was always on the cards that these two would collaborate further and in 2020 the opportunity arose which resulted in this latest album ‘Imaginator’ their first on Groove Unlimited.

Liam has produced a number of film socres for american independent films as well as recording multiple electronic albums such as ‘Off World’ and more recently ‘Waveforms’ He continues to explore electronic sound design, visuals, guitar and classical compositions

Dave Bessell, founder member of synth group Node, has been releasing a series of fascinating solo and collaborative EM albums over recent years, mainly on DiN records. He also has a lengthy back story involving session playing programming and arranging for a variety of artists and labels including Killing Joke and Suede. Along the way he also picked up a Phd in classical orchestration from the Royal College of Music.

This latest collaboration is the first full album with versatile soundtrack and EM composer Liam Boyle. It is also the first release for these artists on Groove Unlimited. The musical emphasis here is on both melody and sonic explora-tion with an atmospheric soundtrack feel throughout. Not surprising really considering both artists have seperately worked on soundtracks - from independent films to TV. The music is detailed and multilayered repaying close and repeated listening and is realised entirely with analogue hardware, plus a little heavily treated and disguised guitar. Dave also uses an unusual instrument on a couple of tracks called an Aum guitar which is designed to be played with an ebow and sounds nothing like a guitar!

Phosphenes (DiN65) by Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds

https://dinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/phosphenes-din65

"The names of Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds should be familiar to aficionados of the DiN label with various solo & collaborative albums under their belts. “Phosphenes” see these two well respected musicians team up for their third collaborative release on DiN.

Following on from Morphogenic (DiN41, 2012) & Dystopia (DiN56, 2018) this new album builds on their previous work creating an imaginary Synthwave soundtrack. Bakis Sirros the mastermind behind Parallel Worlds provides the skittering rhythmic backdrop to the tracks over which he and Bessell overlay ominous bass lines, twisting melodies and creative sound design that recall a shadow of 1980s John Carpenter film scores. Bessell also adds his unique guitar style that he so effectively uses in his other well known side project with the synth quartet Node. Both musicians make extensive use of modular synth systems but in very different ways that perfectly blend together in these eight atmospheric tracks.

The duo of Bessell and Sirros really do have a unique sound that is unlike anything else released in the world of electronic music and “Phosphenes” presents another chance to enter their darkly twisted sonic world.

Lay Down Your Shield by No Man's Island

Behind the scenes: creating the synth riff for Lay Down Your Shield

Published on May 2, 2020 No Man's Island
Update: video above added.

"A small secret about Lay Down Your Shield (released on April 28th) is that it was really already started on in December 2018. Songwriting is a long process 😅 The main riff of the song was created by Rune tweaking some sounds on his MFB Dominion 1 synthesizer, and eventually thought to himself 'hey, this sounds rather cool, doesn't it?'."

New track from supporting member, Rune Flobakk.

"We are not primarily a 'synth band' by any means, but the sound relies heavily on synths. On this song I used both an Alesis Andromeda A6 and an Oberheim Matrix-12. The arpeggiator riff in the verses is played on the Andromeda, and I use the Matrix-12 for chords in the refrain and bridge. The song is available on Spotify and most other streaming services"
