YouTube via toborexperiment — May 06, 2010 — "audioscan is a multimedia interactive installation and a live performance combining music and video. Both are based on the sound mapping of Milano.
At the basis of audioscan there are 1.580 recordings and phonometric surveys gathered within the perimeter contained in the main ring road of Milano. audioscan puts itself up as a chance to reflect on the features of the sound surrounding us and the spaces we act in. A process of meeting and exchange between contemporary art, music and environmental themes, a meditation on soundscape and the auditive dimension of human experience, both on an aesthetic and a social perspective.
An ambitious cataloguing work and an environmental awakening project through the transformation of a waste product of technological society noise into an artwork.

"ADDAC809 is a dynamic CV operated I/O router that allows one source (Audio or CV) to be routed through 2 different chains (of one or more modules) before being sent to an output. Six routing patterns are allowed:

1. IN > OUT
2. IN > CHAIN A > OUT
3. IN > CHAIN B > OUT
4. IN > CHAIN A > CHAIN B > OUT
5. IN > CHAIN B > CHAIN A > OUT

A practical example is to have an audio source, a delay and a looper. And the question: should the delay be placed before or after the looper? "Persephone is the new VCA module by Expert Sleepers but it's much more than a simple VCA! It uses a JFET as the gain element that can generate amazing overdrive and distortion sounds! Furthermore, it includes a zero-crossing detector and an asymmetry switch. In this video I go through all these different features of Persephone."

"'Persephone' is a VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) using a discrete JFET as the gain element. The JFET can be tastefully (or violently) overdriven for saturation/distortion effects.

Persephone also includes a zero-crossing detector, which can be used to restrict gain changes to zeros in the audio waveform, preventing clicks and pops that can occur with very fast envelopes, especially on lower pitched sounds. In fact, with the zero-crossing circuit engaged, you can use a simple gate as the CV input without clicks.

The module's signal and CV paths are 100% analogue (there is a little discrete logic involved in the zero-cross circuitry)."

"Tiptop Audio and Lattex Plus are joining together to host the second edition of MEFF, a modular synthesizer event in the heart of Italy.

This is a two-day event in March 24-25 2018 which will take place at the Impact HUB, in the artistically vibrant city of Florence.
This event is open to all manufactures of Modular Synthesizers and electronic music technology entrepreneurs.

There will be many stands in different exhibition spaces and every brand is welcome to manage mini live sets and/or presentations by performing the sounds of their systems.

The access to the event will be FREE for visitors.

Organized in collaboration with our partner Lattex Plus, the final show will include performances by well-known and established artists, who perform their live sets with modular synths."

NEW MODULE DAY | ADDAC System - ADDAC714 Vintage Clip

ADDAC714 is a dual channel soft clipping module.
Diode based passive clipping acts as a “brick wall” limiter with a fixed knee given by the inherent diode physics. A passive RC low pass circuit adds a 3.3KHz -3db low pass filter which sculpts the overall tone while also adding further character to the effect.

At the top an On/Off [BYPASS] switch routes the signal into the Effect (Up: Active) or to the bottom output gain stage (Down: Bypassed).

The ammount of clipping is set by the [GAIN] control, it mostly works as a threshold control for how much clipping will be applied.
As more clipping is applied the signal’s amplitude will also decrease, to compensate for this we set up a gain compensation stage to keep the output amplitude balanced across the Gain range.

Symmetry chooses between bipolar clipping or positive clipping, this relates to the harmonics generated, bipolar for odd and even harmonics (up position) and unipolar for odd harmonics only (down position).

At the second stage, an opamp based x2 output gain with a clipping led, which monitors the clipping at the output, and an [Output] control to set the output volume.

Having the top and middle gain stages provides flexibili- ty allowing the user to completelly distort the signal on the top stage and tame it’s output level with the second stage.

At the bottom, Input jacks for both channels (Left input is normalled into Right input) and output jacks

ADDAC712 is a dual channel discrete gain staging ampli- fier, based on a famous discrete preamp board from the 70’s used in some legendary equipment.
What caught our attention was the character of it’s clipping and resulting saturation/distortion.

The module can be used with modular signals to add a distortion/fuzz character or as a preamp for an external source such as a line source, keyboard, guitar...
It’s also a great side companion for our ADDAC711 Balanced Inputs.

At the top an On/Off [BYPASS] switch routes the signal into the Effect (Up: Active) or to the bottom output gain stage (Down: Bypassed).

The ammount of amplification is set by the [GAIN] control, the maximum ammount of amplification can be set by the user using the [MAX GAIN] trimmer.

Up to ±5.5v the incoming signal will keep it’s integrity, beyond this point saturation will start to increase.
At aprox. ±6v a hard clipping will start to occur, this clipping also has a particular quality that at extreme levels it drifts the audio 0v bias reference, moving it upwards which results are similar to a Gate effect.

In the middle, an x2 opamp based output gain stage with a clipping led, which monitors the clipping at the output, and an [OUTPUT] control to set the output volume.

Having the top and middle gain stages provides flexibili- ty allowing the user to completelly distort the signal on the top stage and tame it’s output level with the second stage.

At the bottom, Input and Output for both channels (Left input is normalled into Right input).
