New Form of Digital and Analog Sound Synthesis Based on Tropical Algebra

This one is in via Giorgio Sancristoforo, the man behind GLEETCHLAB/GLEETHCHPLUG, and BERNA 2.

"I've release our paper on Tropical Additive Synthesis, a new for of analog or digital sound synthesis based on Tropical Algebra created by me with the mathematician Cristiano Bocci."

Details from Giorgio Sancristoforo's website where you can find a PDF download of his paper on the new synthesis method.

"Tropical additive synthesis is a new form of digital and analog sound synthesis that uses Tropical Algebra.

You are free to use this paper for commercial (software and hardware) musical instruments, both in digital or analog form, at the following conditions:

1) The module must display a “trop(x[n])” logo with Times New Roman font (italic) in white, over a red background (color hex code: 84120a)
2) The user manual must credits the authors: “trop(x[n]), tropical additive synthesis ©2018 Cristiano Bocci and Giorgio Sancristoforo”

The number of oscillators can vary between 2 and 10. But this is just a suggestion.
If you need help with the oscillator’s development, please drop me a line and I’d be glad to help you."

You can find a PDF download of the paper on Tropical Additive Synthesis on Giorgio Sancristoforo website here.

Adeptus by Giorgio Sancristoforo

Neophitus (extract) - video upload by Giorgio Sancristoforo

Rituals of passage, esoteric societies, initiation, are the leitmotif of this collection of sound meditations that immerse the listener in a place where time flows differently, where sound surfaces build filamentary mosaics of imperceptible passages. At each step, initiation is an ever deeper immersion into the Interiora Terrae cited by Basilio Valentino, implied in the iconology of the Mons Philosophorum. In order to welcome the light, the adept must first know the shadow, this is why the Greek μύστης were brought into the basement of the Eleusinian Temple before receiving the light of initiation: to die and resurrect. This shadows gradually thin out like a mist that evaporates, allowing us to perceive the details of an inner world that only silence can reveal.

audioscan MILANO

audioscan MILANO - Noise transformed into ambient music from Tobor Experiment on Vimeo.

www.audioscan.it
YouTube via toborexperiment — May 06, 2010 — "audioscan is a multimedia interactive installation and a live performance combining music and video. Both are based on the sound mapping of Milano.
At the basis of audioscan there are 1.580 recordings and phonometric surveys gathered within the perimeter contained in the main ring road of Milano. audioscan puts itself up as a chance to reflect on the features of the sound surrounding us and the spaces we act in. A process of meeting and exchange between contemporary art, music and environmental themes, a meditation on soundscape and the auditive dimension of human experience, both on an aesthetic and a social perspective.
An ambitious cataloguing work and an environmental awakening project through the transformation of a waste product of technological society noise into an artwork.

Introducing Points&Lines Experimental Music Software

video by Giorgio Sancristoforo

New from Giorgio Sancristoforo, available at www.giorgiosancristoforo.net in the software section.

"Points & Lines is a new software dedicated to experimental music, drones and sound design, based on classic subtractive synthesis.

However the number of the available tools (20 oscillators, 20 VCAs, 20BPFs and 20 Pan channels) makes it a unique software capable of complex sounds and atmospheres seldom easily available in classic synthesizers."

"CLASSIC BUT DIFFERENT
Points & Lines is a new software dedicated to experimental music, drones and sound design, based on classic subtractive synthesis.

However the number of the available tools (20 oscillators, 20 VCAs, 20BPFs and 20 Pan channels) makes it a unique software capable of complex sounds and atmospheres seldom easily available in classic synthesizers.

FROM TINY SOUNDS TO HOURS LONG PIECES
Changing the score length can transform your composition radically in an instant. The complex trajectories of frequencies, pan, amplitude and pan can evolve in just 1 second, or in hours.

UP TO 80 OSCILLATORS
You can record up to 3 stereo tracks of 20 oscillators each, and play them along the live score to create massive 80 VCO, 80 VCA, 80 BPF and 80 PAN music.

Later you can export the separate tracks and edit them in your favourite DAW."

Giorgio Sancristoforo's No-Fi Virtual Cassette Tape Loop Studio for Mac Released - Windows Coming

Presentation and Tutorial video upload by Giorgio Sancristoforo

"No-Fi is a cassette tape loop studio sim made to revolutionize your creativity with warm lo-fi sound and striking simplicity!

No-Fi is not a plugin and no other software is needed, it’s standalone:
Plug your instruments, record and mix, just like the real hardware.
You have one mixer, five cassette/loop recorders, one handy reverb and one delay. That’s it!
No-Fi carefully simulates the peculiar nostalgic vintage sound of cassette loops with all the warmth of tape saturation, noises and playback irregularities that characterize the sound of true lo-fi loops.
Choose between Ferric, Chrome and Ferrochrome tapes, add background hiss, tape age and saturation, then control azimuth errors, wow, flutter, tape catch and speed to recreate an authentic lo-fi experience.

Available at giorgiosancristoforo.net
(Windows version out in December 2023)"

Simplicity here is paramount.
Plug-in, record and mix, just like the real hardware.

The input channels can be used with synthesizers, guitars, bass, microphones, electroacoustic instruments etc. and can load a VST/AU plugin such as a guitar amp. Alternatively you can load a virtual VST instrument and play it with your midi keyboard! The cassette tape loops can record up to 1 hour of sound each, or if you want you can import your own loops from your computer.

Tape your loops and hear the magic!
And it’s not just five tape recorders, it works as a loop station! Plug in a midi switch controller and use it as a digital looper, with an analog heart."

Full Blotter by Giorgio Sancristoforo

demo tutorial video upload by Giorgio Sancristoforo

"Full Blotter is a ticket to infinity!
It’s a smart little software that can turn any audio file (or song!) into an immense psychedelic, mesmerizing ambient drone.

Discover it at giorgiosancristoforo.net

(Windows version will be released in about 20 days)"

SINSTANT SPACE TRAVEL!
Full Blotter is a ticket to infinity!
It’s a smart little software that can turn any audio file (or song!) into an immense psychedelic, mesmerizing ambient drone.
Simply drag and drop a file into the waveform window and prepare to reach the limits of the galaxy, in no time.

DRONE HEAVEN
Granular synthesis often works using many small grains, Full Blotter instead use a few (ten) very large grains which have sizes of several seconds.
The algorithm disintegrates transients and time and transform any audio file into a luscious stream of hypnotic frequencies.

REMIX YOURSELF OR…
Remixing your music into an ambient megadrone version has never been easier and fun and using the random functions you can let it go alone for hours.
You can use FullBlotter to meditate, sleep or well… take a bicycle travel…
Use it wisely!

The Buchla Techno

video upload by Giorgio Sancristoforo

"All made with the original 1967 SFTMC Buchla 100 of Ernst Krenek
No other instruments or samples.

Recoded at Salon Krenek - Ernst Krenek Institut,
Krems an der Donau, Austria
Special thanks to Alethea Dawn Neubauer, Martina Pröll and Clemens Zoidl"

See the full series in three posts here.

Additional details on the series from Giorgio Sancristoforo:

"I’m very happy to share my works at the prestigious Ernst Krenek Institut where I had the chance to play for four days and nights an original 1967 SFTMC Buchla 100 once owned by the Austrian Composer Ernst Krenek and now exhibited at his museum in Krems an der Donau Austria.

Krenek has been one of the most prolific composers of the XX Century, he has written pieces for theatre ballet opera symphonies electroacoustic and electronic music.

In 1938 after the Anschluss Krenek moved to California United States and in the late sixties he met Morton Subotnick and Don Buchla at the San Francisco Tape Music Centre.

In 1967 the same year of Subotnick’s SIlver Apples of the Moon Krenek bought la large Buchla 100 modular synthesizer which he used for a number of electronic and electroacoustic works not yet released to the public (which I hope that will be soon collected in a special release of his edition).

So here I am with Krenek’s amazing Buchla 100, probably one of the rarest and most expensive synthesizers on earth. Working with this breathtaking instrument is pure pleasure."

Quadrivium Orbital Synthesizer-Controller (sneak preview)

Giorgio Sancristoforo

"12 moons orbiting around the four giant gas planets as modulation sources? Yes! Orbital data from Jan 1 2020 to Jan 1 2030 (hour by hour) are used in the forthcoming Quadrivium synthesizer to modulate oscillators, filters, delay and create incredible spacey soundscapes.
Did I mention that you can also use the moons' orbits to modulate your MIDI gear? :D
Soon available at https://www.giorgiosancristoforo.net"

Giorgio Sancristoforo's Compusynth 400 Released for Mac - Windows Version Coming in January

via Giorgio Sancristoforo

"Compusynth is a modular synthesiser that takes inspiration from the west coast paradigm and the mighty Altair8800, one of the first personal microcomputers available to the hobbyists in the mid 70s.

With its peculiar 128 bit sequencer, oscillators, filters, efxs and processors, Compusynth is a powerful sonic laboratory thanks to its generous resources and flexible routing with 1596 patch points!

Compusynth has everything I ever dreamt about west coast modulars: enough resources to create tons of sounds with the addition of a large memory sequencer and a fantastic tape echo.

Compusynth can make weird experimental sounds as well as traditional fat synth sequences that will serve any music genere with its warm and deep tone.

Out now for Mac OSX at giorgiosancristoforo.net. Windows version is scheduled for January 2023."

Building a Sequencer with the World's First Personal Computer

via giorgiosancristoforo.net where you'll find the full post.

Giorgio Sancristoforo is the man behind Berna.

"So here is the idea: in the video episodes that I will post here, I will learn assembly, refresh my Basic knowledge, and start programming and connecting the Altair to a modern PC/Mac to transform the Altair into a digital sequencer (linear and/or generative).

The first part of this musical quest is to make the Altair communicate with MaxMSP software by Cycling74, so I will be able to build both standalone programs and MIDI software interfaces, later I will try to make some tests with Processing.

Next I’d like to interface the Altair with Arduino and see if I can manage to work to a prototype board+software to sequence Control Voltages for the Buchla Music Easel analog synthesizer. The Easel’s programming cards are the ideal interface for the task. Any help, comments and critics from retrocomputing and assembly lovers, is more than welcome."
