New Happy Nerding Dual xFader

Published on Sep 3, 2019 Happy Nerding

via Happy Nerding

"Dual crossfader is a compact 4HP voltage controlled crossfader suitable for both audio and CVs. Smaller knobs set manual crossfade between A-B, and bigger knobs are CV attenuverters. LEDs show the adjusted positive and negative CV sides for easy monitoring.

Upper inputs (section 1) are normalled to lower inputs (section 2). Thus the same signal pair A&B can be differently crossfaded in both sections.

The switch clones section’s 1 controls to the section 2, which is useful to make stereo Dry/Wet adjustment or stereo VCA.

So this module can be used as:

– two independent crossfades

– two independent VCAs

– stereo crossfade or Dry/Wet control

– stereo VCA

– panner

Four jumpers on the back can give optional 5x amplification for each A or B input. Sot it is easy to crossfade modular level with linear level from pedals.

Output 1 is mixed with output 2 if left unconnected.

MSRP: 140 USD or 125 Euro"

Happy Nerding TriTone demo

Published on Mar 12, 2017 Happy Nerding

"TriTone shown as EQ, filter and saturator."

via Happy Nerding

"TriTone is a three section EQ plus saturator. Inner knobs control frequency and outer knobs control +- gain. All these sections Hi Shelf, Band Pass and Low Shelf are having + 20 db of gain and 30 db of reduction. Each section can work independently or they can be serially connected by the switches. Middle input in each section accepts CV for its frequency, so all three sections can be individually FMed by the external CVs.

If the inputs are fed with the modular level signals (+- 5V), then there is little room for “plus” EQ gains before saturation starts. In this case the input level should be attenuated first, if saturation is not desired and much “plus” gain is needed. Otherwise saturation drastically enriches the tone and the module works like very flexible overdrive FX.

When the switches are set to upper positions, then all three sections work independently. With the maximum gain reduction (CCW position) of the upper section (Hi Shelf) it becomes a useful kind of Low Pass filter. On the contrary – maximum gain reductions of the lower section (Low Shelf) makes it a High Pass filter.

Please note the internal routing done by the switches: the output of the uppers section is added to the input of the subsequent lower section. If nothing is connection to this lower sections’ input, then only the upper section’s output is processed. This makes it a 3 band EQ with the switches set to lower position. Having separated inputs opens up more possibilities over ordinary EQs."

Happy Nerding HN VCF demo

Published on Mar 12, 2017 Happy Nerding

"First part shows the simplest example of using note velocity CV to add variation to a static note sequence.
Second part shows difference in 'Drive' for 'LP' and 'LP!' outputs.

Third part shows how HN VCF can be used to transform mono sound to pseudo stereo. To do this the user should send 'LP' out to one channels and 'LP!' to another. With some “Drive” added to the sound it starts to be spread over stereo field."

via Happy Nerding

"HN VCF is a state variable filter having 12 db Low Pass, 12 dB High Pass, 6 dB Band Pass plus 18 db Low Pass marked as “LP!”, because it has extra drive. All three parameters: 'Freq', 'Resonance' and 'Drive' have dual knobs with outer knobs controlling bipolar CV amount. These affected CVs are then shown by the relative green/blue leds.

The possibility to have CV over “Resonance” and “Drives” makes it a very capable 6 HP filter.

HN VCF can be used to transform mono sound to pseudo stereo. To do this the user should send “LP” output to one channels and “LP!” to another. With some “Drive” added to the sound it starts to be spread over the stereo field."

Happy Nerding - FX AID XL - Stereo Effects Demo

Sound Isles

"I explore the sounds of the FX AID XL by Happy Nerding in a non-talking demo. The FX AID XL runs 32 effects algorithms arranged in 4 banks of 8 effects. You choose and customize the effects / banks on the FX AID via their editor page / app (https://fxaid.app/). There are over 100 high quality algorithms including amazing emulations of classic reverbs, delays, pitch shifters and original effects combinations all with a Stereo signal path.

The XL grants separate CV modulation inputs for all three effect parameters plus a Sample Rate Reducer (SRR) input. FX AID XL has four user storable presets that store the selected program and all three controls. CV assign, presets and the last used effect are remembered and always available after power offs.

Notes:
Using the Arturia Keystep Pro to sequence + play a range of sounds from the 4MS - Stereo Triggered Sampler and Rings in an alternate FM Voice mode. Pamela's NEW Workout is applying some simple modulation to CV parameters. Life is Unfair Devices - Potential Joystick Controller makes an appearance.

Thanks to Happy Nerding.

Happy Nerding FX Aid “Freeze Prime Time”

video upload by Happy Nerding

"'Freeze Prime Time' is a freeze effect version with a row of fixed loop speeds: 1/8 - 1/4 - 1/2 - 1 - 1.5 - 2 - 3 - 4
Feeding a positive voltage to the SRR input decreases the sample rate and thus increases the recorded loop time."

Happy Nerding PanMix Jr

Published on Apr 28, 2018 Happy Nerding

Don't miss this one even if you aren't into eurorack.

"PanMix Jr is a high quality 3 channel mixer with manual panning and volume controls with dual concentric knobs. Each channel’s output is separately available. Also channels 1 and 2 can be switched to be mixed with the subsequent channel, allowing for 1-1-1, 1-2, 3 mix configurations. Equal power pan law (3dB) is provided. Left and Right led indicators available for all three channels.

Several modules can be chained together via connections on the back side. This connection is possible with other Happy Nerding stereo modules too. At the moment PanMix Jr stereo output can be internally send to the Isolator module. Or stereo signal can be received from OUT and latest revision of PanMix."

Some Mario Brothers for you. ;)

Happy Nerding FX Aid Tuner

video by Happy Nerding

"Tuner effect generates three fixed frequencies: 220 Hz, 440 Hz, 880 Hz. Left output - sawtooth wave, right output – triangle wave.
4hp FX AID version should have its CV input routed to the Sample Rate and kept unconnected for proper frequencies."

Happy Nerding Super Sawtor - First Impressions

YouTube ublished on May 17, 2012 by JohnLRice

"This is just some footage of me messing around with the new Super Sawtor module from Happy Nerding. I'll do another video later that describes what is going on in detail.

The Super Sawtor takes a sawtooth wave from a VCO as an input and "animates" it so that it sounds anywhere from slightly modulated to something like many VCOs at once.

With this video I'm often switching back and forth between the straight unprocessed sawtooth wave and the processed Sawtor output set at various degrees of "spread". The video starts out mono and then later I has the second channel. At one point I modulate the top channel with a LFO and also add some delay/echo during the last couple sections."
