Smokey Quartz - Pneumata #2
Published on Oct 25, 2015 Smokey Quartz
"A meeting between the Ekdahl Polygamist and Metasonix Wretch Machine with a little percussive help from Mr. Basimilus Iteritas. The Polygamist is running the show, triggering everything with it's LFOs and sending out pitch CVs to the Wretch and BI from it's ribbon."

Metasonix TM-6 Filter
Samples and thoughts via Michael Weeks. Thanks Michael!
"Overall impressions of the filter: I don't have any experience with the TM-2 Filter, so I can't make direct comparisons. This is the same filter basically as what is in the new S-1000 Wretch Machine synth, but in a standalone case and with an additional CV input for Resonance. The CV controls are ALOT of fun, and the filter responds very well to every source I've tried through it.
It's character is DEFINITELY different, there is a sort of "huh, never heard that before" quality to the sound and the resonance, and the filter types really do offer up a rediculously wide (and, dare I say, close to conventional?) amount of tone shaping.
Overall it's been a blast having it here to do audio demos with - I love me some filters, and have abused a sherman filterbank for a number of years now. Overall this thing is a fun fun fun box with a very unique sound, but not as alien as some other Metasonix boxes. Worth demoing for an hour or so :D
Here's some audio demos of the Metasonix TM-6 filter (also up on the product page http://metasonix.com/index.php?opti...id=31&Itemid=62
Run a Guitar through it

Plant Music #4 – (MIDI Sprout + Metasonix)
Published on Jan 30, 2017 Smokey Quartz
"In this experiment, the MIDI Sprout is a 'one-plant band', playing the drums and synthesizer. The MIDI signal coming from the Sprout are being sent to both the Metasonix D-1000 drum machine and the S-1000 Wretch Machine. With some MIDI tools in Ableton, I’m restricting the signal to 4 notes to play the D-1000. The Polygamist is also shown being manipulated but it is only sending control voltages to the S-1000, it is not heard in this video. Reverb is coming from the Metasonix R-56 Spring Reverb module just outta sight about the D-1000. I don’t start touching the succulent, a Crassula falcatta, until about 1:20."

via this auction
"This listing is for a Metasonix synth rig, fully loaded with Metasonix modules and a rare Monorocket High-Power case in yellow.
All of the modules are in excellent condition with 4 out of the 5 having their original boxes. Below are the details of what is included...
1) R-55 (x2) Limited Edition Thyratron VCO (The R-55's are essentially the VCOs from the legendary S-1000 Wretch Machine) sold at Big City for $399 each (now sold out) and have one of the two original boxes
2) R-51 Vacuum Tube VCA/Distortion $499 at Big City (now sold out) with original box
3) R-52 Vacuum-Tube Multi-Mode Filter Module $399 at Big City (now sold out) with original box
4) R-53 Vacuum-Tube Waveshaper/RingMod Module $399 at Big City (now sold out) with original box
5) Monorocket 9U High Powered Case specifically designed for running the R-55’s. Originally $1199 at Big City. In perfect functional condition, but in pic you will see the leather (or whatever material it is) is lifting on the edges. Could be easily fixed with an adhesive.
Kept in a smokefree, climate controlled studio. See my other listings. I am selling a bunch of my collectable gear."

Metasonix Phattytron Demos
via zerosum
"Sounds made with Metasonix Phattytron:
ibreathfire.mp3
holedriller.mp3"
[mirrored here]
Also see the Metasonix TS-22 Pentode Filterbank Serial Number 2.
On the difference between the two: "The phattytron was a full synth voice with MIDI containing the ideas and circuits that later went on to become the Wretch Machine. The TS-22 is just a badass Filterbank! :)"

Smokey Quartz - Pneumata #1
Published on Oct 23, 2015 Smokey Quartz
"The first in a new series of synth improvisations using whatever tickles my fancy at the moment. At this moment it's the Ekdahl Polygamist playing the Metasonix Wretch Machine resulting in a thick, dirty, analog drone."

Beautiful Metasonix R-55 Vacuum Thyratron VCO Arpeggiations
Published on Feb 18, 2014 bigcitymusic·299 videos
"With names like Agonizer, Wretch Machine and Scrotum Smasher, Metasonix hardly has a reputation for sounding beautiful. But this video shows just how beautiful Metasonix R-55 oscillators can sound.
The two R-55 modules are hard-synced to a Cwejman D-LFO (square wave), and a Mutable Instruments Braids CSAW (being tracked by the Vermona qMI). The oscillators are run into a Cwejman DMF-2 for timbral dynamics with further modulation provided by an additional Cwejman D-LFO.

Persephone Controlling a Metasonix Wretch Machine
"It outputs CV from the ribbon, which I use the M#@g CP-251 attenuator to tweak a bit. It works really well. For trigger, I use the audio out of the Persephone which works perfectly as well."

"there is also a wiard noise ring plugged into the filter cv near the end....thanks grant!" Also note that "the last few seconds of the video is just the noise ring sending cv to the filter tuning."

Metasonix TM-3 modular synth oscillator
via this auction
"Up for sale is a TM-3, the dual oscillator module by Metasonix made from old, old vacuum tubes and Eric Barbors unrelenting rage... These are not made anymore, to get these oscillators now you have to get a whole Wretch Machine, which runs $2900. I'm going to miss this in a way though, because it has a MIDI INPUT. It has CV inputs to, but sometimes midi is seductively convenient (admit it analog fans!) The Wretch, alas, can't be controller via midi.... I also sent this to Eric Baurbor in January of this year to give it it's "physical", he checked it out, recalibrated it and stuck a sticker on the back that confirms this. The sticker also says "Your music still sucks." although he was sending it to me, so obviously that was directed at me and does not apply to you."
Sold For: US $535.00

Nightmare at the Roxbury
YouTube via bigcitymusic. bigcitymusic.com
"Nod your head to this, tool. Here's the Metasonix S-1000 all-tube Wretch Machine in action. There are different clips, some are using the Wretch as a drum processor, some as a synth. There's a short little bit with the pulser section too. It's not very nice sounding, but aren't most synths trying to sound nice? Different is good."

Smokey Quartz - Plant Music 22 (Aloe + PlantWave, Polygamist & Wretch)
video by Smokey Quartz
"In this Plant Music video I connect the Plant Wave to a lil Aloe we have growing in a pot outside. The MIDI coming from the PlantWave plays the Knas Ekdahl Polygamist which then sends pulse waves and trigger signals to the Metasonix S-1000 aka Wretch Machine."

Plant Music #3 (MIDI Sprout + Knas + Metasonix + Arturia)
Published on Jan 26, 2017 Smokey Quartz
"In this video I connect the MIDI Sprout to a Philodendron ‘Congo Rojo’ and let it play the Ekdahl Knas Polygamist synthesizer and Arturia’s B-3 V Virtual Hammond Organ. Interjecting it’s noisey self into the mix is the Metasonix S-1000 Wretch machine, which is being “played” by the Polygamist via it’s pulse wave and gate outs. So, a plant is playing a synthesizer that is playing a synthesizer!? Ableton Live’s MIDI effects are also massaging the MIDI data coming from the MIDI Spout. It's really all just a bunch of fun noise."
