The year is 1978. Young Yves, captivated by the sounds of Kraftwerk's "We Are the Robots," is transported to a sonic frontier. The robotic vocals, the pulsating rhythms, the sheer audacity of it all – it's unlike anything he's ever heard, yet it somehow feels like a glimpse into the future.

But amidst the revolutionary sounds, there's also a touch of romanticism, a characteristic melody of the 70s era, where exploration was boundless and imagination fueled creation. As a Frenchman, he can't help but be drawn to the ethereal beauty of Jean-Michel Jarre's "Oxygène," a track that defies explanation, existing in a realm beyond the ordinary.

Inspired by these sonic pioneers, he embarks on a months-long odyssey. "The @NovationTV​ Circuit Tracks is here! This groovebox is nice and compact with a built in battery, lots of connectivity and a software editor if you want to go deeper. The Tracks has two synth tracks, two midi sequencing tracks and four sample based drum tracks. It also has two inputs so you can plug in the synths you are sequencing with the midi tracks and some built in effects (including the sidechain effect that really glues everything together and makes your drums sound really loud!)

The sequencer is a strong point of the Circuit Tracks, it has a lot of the power of using a Launchpad with Live's clip launcher, but in a standalone groovebox.

Since its launch over a year ago, Novation’s commitment to updating Circuit has brought transformative new features to the product. Circuit v1.4 brings even more features to Circuit, making it an even more powerful addition to any live or studio performance system.

In the run-up to the new release, Novation celebrated its favourite milestones in its campaign ‘The Evolution of Circuit’. Working in collaboration with London design house Studio Murugiah, 12 key milestones of Circuit’s life have been immortalised in illustrated form (which can be viewed here). The latest update (version 1.4) brings a new pattern-length parameter for the drum tracks to enable polyrhythmic drum sequences, where previously the drum patterns were locked to 16 steps. Also, it’s now possible to switch each track’s patterns on the fly so you can create fast-changing fills and pattern-change effects. You can now change the colour of the sessions from the unit itself (instead of from the Components software), and there are new setup options to optimise Circuit’s interoperation with other MIDI hardware. Lastly, Novation have created brand new samples, synth patches and sessions, to give you even more inspiration.

"Novation looks back on three decades of bass, beats and synthesizers.

Since 1992, Novation’s synths, MIDI controllers, grooveboxes and more have helped people create, play and perform at all stages of their music-making journey.

In 1992, Novation developed the MM10, an innovative MIDI sequencer that controlled the Yamaha QY10 from a keyboard, revolutionising the way we make music as the first MIDI controller of its kind. Bass Station’s arrival in 1993 pushed them further into the spotlight as a standout synth of the ‘90s. Developed by none other than synth designer Chris Huggett, his expertise with analogue and digital synth design influenced many of their iconic synths including Supernova, Bass Station II, Summit and Peak.

Over the years, Novation’s instruments have brought new life to music-making, including the Launchpad range which changed the game for grid-based music production and DIY performance, Circuit’s much-loved intuitive approach to beatmaking and sampling, and the award-winning Launchkey range of MIDI controllers used by artists in many genres.

In 2022, they’re celebrating 30 years of music, pioneering music technology and people that made Novation what it is today.

With Novation, anything is possible
Over the past three decades, countless artists have brought their musical ideas to life with Novation instruments. From October until Christmas, they’re bringing their community together to celebrate the made music with their instruments over the years with videos from artists across the globe, huge prizes up for grabs in their 30th anniversary competition and exclusive curated soundpack giveaways.

""The lack of an arpeggiator option on the novation circuit has always been one of the weaknesses of its synths, and while there's workarounds, there has never been an immediate way to arpeggiate a note that's playing...until now

Arpleasiator is a pack for the Novation Circuit tracks that features 64 dual oscillator patches, each with multiple arpeggio functions and control, a host of performance features in the encoders and 64 hip hop, house and 8bit drum and percussion samples

Every patch is arranged to include 2 separate oscillators which can be voiced separately or combined with the turn of a knob, each of these oscillators can also be arpeggiated with the turn of another knob, essentially giving you 128 different oscillator choices in this pack, each with the ability to be modded and transposed on the fly.

Patches range from low dirty bass, and grinding saws, to twinkly plucks, and sustained pads, which can be used for a wide range of music or sound design...your creativity is the limit.

Macros are arranged in a way that best suits performance, movement, and change of sound, as there are separate encoders for turning arpeggio on and off, changing between the two oscillators, changing speed of arpeggio, changing voice and pitch of arpeggio, adding drive and distortion, and even a secret sauce knob.

A song or a loop can be completely transposed in time with the turn of a couple of knobs, really elevating jams and live performances, and really pushing the limitations of the Circuit tracks

voice stealing can occur between oscillators when switching...if this occurs, just pump the drive/distortion knob(macro 8)...its there for a reason.

Apply secret sauce knob sparingly because it can really thrash whatever sound you're playing (or maybe that's exactly what you want)"
