The StyloBuzz Synth by Rarebeasts

Published on Oct 31, 2016 Rarebeasts

"This is the StyloBuzz synth. Now available in my Etsy store. https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/28088..."

"The StyloBuzz is a small experimental handmade synth that is played with a stylus attached to a wire, when the wire touches one of the keyboard pads on the PCB a note is played.

If you want to hear what the StyloBuzz sounds like, I have uploaded a small YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LewByXGNpg

Stylus: The stylus is pressed on one of the 13 keyboard pads to play a note.

Mode select: The mode is changed by pressing the S2 button and cycles through the 5 modes back to 1. The mode levels are adjusted using the vr2 potentiometer.
Modes:
1. Frequency: Shifts the frequency up or down.
2. Sweep Size: Controls the amount the frequency will shift up and down.
3. Sweep intensity: Controls how quickly the sweep frequency will change.
4. Chopper intensity: Changes how quickly the note is strobed.
5. Note Length: Change the length of the note.

The output is via a 3.5mm stereo socket which can be plugged into earphones, a computer sound card, mixer or amplifier.

*Please note a screw driver is required to fit the battery.

If you would like to build your own feel free, I have included the instructions here.

I hope that gives you a basic idea about how the StyloBuzz works, if you have any questions about it please feel free to convo me.

Happy noise making,

More wicks v Dino action

YouTube via grandtippler
"Wicks looper and Dinoaxe make noise.
You can find these noise making beasties here: http://makersmarket.com/sel..."

See the site for more. Some descriptions for the archive:

"The DinoAxe makes noise, the noise is weird.

This fun little device is a mini synth that uses two controls to make an interesting and diverse range of sounds.

The unit has two basic controls, Speed and Freq. The speed control has two functions; modulation and wobble. In Modulation mode the DinoAxe repeats the sound with a varying delay. In wobble mode the speed control varies the frequency in a sine wave pattern. The two functions are selected by rotating the speed control knob all the way counter clockwise. The Freq control varies the frequency of the sound, the first half of the control range is tones from low the high frequency, and the second part of the range is noise, noise, and more noise.

The output is via a 3.5mm stereo socket which can be plugged into earphones, a computer sound card, mixer or amplifier. I used a little vox amp in the video.

* The DinoAxe is powered by a 9v Battery which is not included due to shipping restrictions.

Happy noise making

"The Wicks Looper is a small handmade device that allows you the create real-time noise loops and sound effects.

This fun little device will allow you to build up a sound loop in real time using the tempo, sound and write controls.

The wicks looper has 3 main controls; The sound control adjusts the frequency of the tone in the first half of the dial and the level of noise in the second half of the dial, giving two distinct sounds. The second control is Tempo, which controls how fast the loop is played. Write the loop at a slow tempo then speed it up for a great effect. The third control is the write button, when pressed it writes a sound to memory which is then replayed next time the loop is run. With the sound control knob adjusted anticlockwise, you can add a rest to the loop by pressing the Write button.

The output is via a 3.5mm stereo socket which can be plugged into earphones, a computer sound card, mixer or amplifier.

* Item shipped from Australia, all prices are in US$.

* The Wicks Looper is powered by a Common 9v Battery which is not included due to shipping restrictions.

Happy Shopping
RareBeasts"

"The Wicks Looper – Acid Mix is a small handmade device that allows you the create very fast noise loops, by adding layers of sound in real time.

The wicks looper has 3 main controls; The frequency control adjusts the frequency of the noise, the first half of the range is tame, the 2nd half is uncut noise. The second control is Speed, which controls how fast the loop is played. The right hand side of this control plays the loop, forwards, turn the control to the left and the loop will play in reverse. Write the loop at a slow tempo then speed it up and reverse it, for a great effect. The third control is the write button, when pressed it writes a sound to memory which is then replayed next time the loop is run. With the Freq control knob adjusted anticlockwise, you can add a rest to the loop by pressing the Write button.

The output is via a 3.5mm stereo socket which can be plugged into earphones, a computer sound card, mixer or amplifier.

* The Wicks Looper Acid – Mix is powered by a Common 9v Battery which is not included due to shipping restrictions.

Q: What is the difference between the normal Wicks Looper and the Wicks Looper – Acid Mix?

A: The Acid Mix version plays loops about 4 times faster by making the sound played very short, it gives a ruff, out of control sound. The Acid Mix will also plays loops in reverse.

Happy noise making,

Rarebeasts MUFON 12 MKII

video by Rarebeasts

"Rumoured to be a returned artifact from the dark side of the moon(fake news) the MUFON 12x is a actually a 3d printed synth designed and handmade by me. While appearing to be extraterrestrial in origin this adorable mini synth is super simple to play and can produce a huge range of experimental sounds."

via Rarebeasts on Etsy

This new version of the MUFON-12 uses 2 separate oscillators that de-tune when you change the light levels reaching the sensors.

The New MUFON is made from the more environmentally friendly PLA material.

Catch the MUFON 12 in action here on Youtube https://youtu.be/d3UXPAcK7q4

The MUFON 12 has two controls via light sensors, both light sensors control frequencies that are de-tuned as light changes are made.

All is required to get started is a USB power supply(PC or phone battery packs are perfect) and something amplify the sounds, this can be as simple as a set of headphones or an amplifier. A speaker with an aux input is perfect.

Stats:
Output: 3.5mm socket (Use with earphones, a computer sound card, mixer or amplifier)
Power: USB (Plug into a computer, phone charger or wall socket). No internal battery.

Rarebeasts EmTronic Mini Synth

Published on May 16, 2020 Rarebeasts

"This is the EmTronic mini synth, it's a super simple Arduino powered noise maker that I have designed to be easy to build and only requires easy to buy parts. This little synth allows you to control frequency, modulation and the waveform of the sound.

The Arduino sketch uses the awesome the_synth library from DZLOnline.

The 3d printed front panel finishes off the mini synth but you don't need it to make the sounds. You could even build it on a breadboard if that works for you.

Best of all once you're done it's time to experiment with your own mods to the software to make new crazy sounds and mods to the front panel to really get the look you want.

At some point I will sell few finished EmTronics for those who don't want to make their own so check out my store some time at Rarebeasts.

You can find the EmTronic2020 in my Etsy store here: https://etsy.me/3cHPfg6 or build your own with my Instructable here: https://www.instructables.com/id/EM-T...

Happy noise making

Rarebeasts T2 Autophage

Published on Jun 27, 2018 Rarebeasts

via Etsy:

"The T2 Autophage is an experimental instrument based on a bacteriophage which is a virus that infects bacteria.

The T2 builds a loop of sounds that vary using an equation that determines the number of bacteria that are likely to be infected by multiple phage. The multiplicity of infection variable in this case is determined by a light level. Some of the sounds decay into high frequencies and some into low frequencies but all of the notes eventually decay into silence.

This synth requires USB power from a portable phone charger, wall socket or a computer.
The sound output is via a 3.5mm audio socket.
