The Sound of Genesis - Afterglow with Moog Taurus, Roland VP-330

The last Genesis video in the series. Afterglow is one of my favorite Genesis songs too.
Like usual it`s a cover and not original at all. It`s my interpretation of this song. Not a exact copy! When you will hear the original song than click on the original song.

I used the Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus for the choir and strings sounds.
The deep bass is the MOOG TAURUS bass pedals.
For the Hammond Organ sounds I used the Roland M-VS1 module."

I wanted to do a Vangelis tribute track. For me personally, his soundscapes and above all his sound aesthetics were probably the initial spark that brought me to electronic music and thus to synthesizers. I have almost all albums. The COSMOS series with Carl Sagan ran on GDR television in the early 1980s. That was my first contact with his music. The sounds touched me and painted pictures in my head. They stimulated my imagination. That ultimately aroused my interest in these supposedly unattainable "miracle machines", the synthesizers. But that was all so far away back then. Rest in peace maestro.

The track Chung Kuo is on the China album, released in 1979.

I used the Roland VP330 for string sounds, the Oberheim OB-X for the CS brass sound, the Arp Quadra for the main theme and the bass & string sounds, the Emulator II for percussion sounds, the Yamaha DX7 II für the melody and pad sounds and the Roland M-VS1 module for additional horn/pad sounds."

The Sound of 10CC - I`m Not In Love

video upload by RetroSound

"One of my favorite songs from the 70s.
Like usual it`s a cover and not original at all. It`s my interpretation of this song. Not a exact copy! When you will hear the original song than click on the original song.

I used the Roland M-VS1 Vintage Synth module and the E-MU Emax for the choir sounds.
For the Rhodes Mk1 sound and acoustic piano sound I used my Yamaha Reface CP incl. the internal effect section. Very important is the phaser effect. You can see the settings on the video picture. Played with the Oberheim Xk keyboard controller. The BD is the Linndrum triggered with a Simmons pad."

For lovers of the melancholic Mellotron sounds it is the song at all.
The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin from the year 1967.
One of my parents favorite songs.
Of course I don't have a huge, old Mellotron from the 60s. I use my Roland M-VS1 'Vintage Synth' module for this, which has wonderful Mellotron samples. In the song I use the sounds: MelloFlute, MelloStrings (3Violins) and two parts of the MelloChoir. The module is controlled by my Oberheim OB-Xk master keyboard controller via MIDI. The other sounds (drums, bass, guitar) come from the E-MU Emax sampling synthesizer

One of my favorite songs from the 70s.
The song was written and performed by Peter Beckett and J.C. Crowley, the founders of Player in the year 1977.

I used the Roland M-VS1 'Vintage Synth' module for the Solina string sounds. For the Rhodes Mk1 and the Clavinet sounds I used my Yamaha Reface CP incl. the internal effect section. Very important is here the chorus effect. Played with the Oberheim Xk keyboard controller.
For the Moog lead sound in the mid-part I used my Minimoog.

"This is the stand-alone rack version of an JV expansion board having lots of real analog sounds of all the classic boxes of the past, from TB303 to Solton, from Moog to MKS, CR78 and other real good sounding stuff. Pity, you can only edit via sysex.Wonderful Mellotron standard sounds (strings, choir) and some nice chewy bass sounds. The drum kits plunder the Roland back catalogue but without a decent editor the kits are a bit perfunctory.

Sounds ("Patches") : 256, plus 8 drum kits

Multitimbral : 8 part (inlcuding 1 drum channel). 17 Multitimbral memories ("Performances").

Polyphony : 28 note (max, including drums)

Effects : Stereo effects, very quiet. 3 types of chorus, 8 types of reverb (including 2 delays). NB all effects are preset & apply to all instruments.

Outputs : Stereo jacks + headphone. Instruments can be set within the stereo field.

User Interface : 3 digit LED display. Parameter/patch up/down buttons, with matrix for selecting parameters.

Multitimbral Memories - Parameters Per Patch : Patch number, Volume, Stereo pan, Reverb/chorus amount, MIDI channel, Key shift, Detune, Min polyphony, MIDI receive - Vol & Hold, Prog Chg, Bank Sel, Sys Ex."
