Between | Roland JD-990 controlled by the JD-800 space ambient
video upload by MIDERA
"Today I figured I would test combining the JD-800 as an editor for the JD-990 and quickly decided: I hate it. You just can’t edit enough to make it worth it. Yes, you have access to all of the front panel controls, which is nice, but you really can’t do it very seamlessly. Imagine you are editing Tone 1 and want to switch to editing Tone 2, but you don’t want to hear Tone 1. Normally you can shut off Tone 1, but you can’t do that via the JD-800, you’d have to use the 990 to do it. And the only way to access card data on the JD-990 is by ensuring both the JD-800 and 990 have cards in them (obviously the JD-990 needs a card if you want to use it, but it’s frustrating that the 800 also needs a card for you to switch to the JD-990’s card). You can’t edit the FX or really anything embedded in a menu.
As Don Solaris and others on Gearspace suggest – they really are two separate synths. Using the JD-800 as an editor for the JD-990 is just not efficient or fun. The whole point of all the sliders is for ease of use and speed – things you begin to lose when using the JD-800 to edit the JD-990 because of all of the gotcha’s.
I don’t know if I want to keep the JD-800. The JD-990 is just so much better for what I want that I think I can live with the worse interface in exchange for the better sound. I’ll keep them for a while perhaps and see what I create that I like more with each. I think the conclusion will be that the JD-990 will be more useful and take up less space. Hard to give up such a great UI, but I have other synths. And actually, something nicer about the 990’s interface is that you can independently turn on and off Tone’s AND also turn on and off the ones you wish to edit. On the JD-800, you have to press a button to switch between ‘layer/active’, which is an extra annoying step.
Such a shame that there is no Roland JD-900. If Roland tried making it today, they’d use zencore and it wouldn’t be the same thing. Again, huge shame.
No FX added."

Epic Prophet X Sample Bank Out Now
video upload by Espen Kraft
"A new patch bank for the Prophet X. Hundreds of samples from over 20 different classic vintage synths. Multi-samples, Velocity layered samples, one-shots and stretched (for authenticity).
The samples and patches I've created is originally meant for MY Prophet X, for my live needs. A way of having all my vintage synths in one keyboard when doing live gigs doing MY own songs as faithful as possible to my albums.
It means that all of these sounds are "ready to go" production pop synth sounds. If you're looking for experimental synth sounds or spiky industrial sounds etc, you won't find that here. I never set out to do that. Nor will I. Every sample in here has been recorded by me personally and sounds exactly how I want them to sound.
Many of the samples are velocity layered multi samples, some upwards of 30-50 samples per sound, while other sounds are just ONE sample, stretched over the entire keyboard. It all depends on how I want the sound to sound. 80s samplers always stretched the samples which gives it a characteristic sound and sometimes I want THAT sound to come through.
If you want to purchase this bank, please send me an email and I'll give you the download details.
The pack is about 1.5Gb in size.
My CONTACT email address is this: espenkraft69@gmail.com
Price is $35 USD. This price is a steal. PayPal only. * The above email is NOT the one to use for payment. That will be given upon ordering.
Included in the download is an instruction on how to install this bank, but I do assume you already know this if you have a Prophet X.
I will take no responsibility if you've accidentally deleted or erased any user samples on your own PX (that you had on from before) after installing my pack.
I will not engage in any "one to one" tutorial sessions on how to install the pack after purchase.
If you have a PX, you should know how to operate it. If not then this pack is not for you.
The installation, import and patch bank transfer has been tested out, and verified to work, by another PX user and owner.
If you want the pool of samples for another platform, I might be able to convert it for you. Send me an email and we'll see.

"Serious synthesizer designed for the musician/performer. In fantastic working and cosmetic condition overall. Includes compact flash card and power supply.
The general concept behind the Solaris synthesizer is to implement something like a giant wall-sized modular system entirely in software where you can select among several completely different types of oscillators and filters, exquisitely modelled after the components culled from a variety of legendary vintage synthesizers of yesteryear and even some current virtual analog innovations of today. With up to four oscillators, four filters, four amplifiers, four four-input mixers, six envelope generators, one looping envelope generator, five LFOs, two vector mixers and still more of these software modules available in each program, the Solaris synthesizer becomes absolutely unrivalled in terms of versatility and programmability."

John Bowen Solaris Gets An Update - v2.1 OS Adds New Functions to the Sequencer and Arpeggiator
via John Bowen Synth Design
"Here is my documentation describing the new functions in v2.1 OS for the sequencer and arpeggiator. I know many people don’t bother to 'read the manual', but in this case, I think it will really be of value. There’s some special applications of a few functions you need to know about, such as the ‘note pool’ used for random note values, or how the modulation paths work."
The images below are from the PDF documentation John shared with owners of the Solaris. You can click on the images to read. With four oscillators, vector joystick, classic analog models, wavetable synthesis, phase distortion, unique rotors, and a completely modular design, all running at 96 kHz for pristine audio quality, the Solaris remains one of the most powerful synthesizers to date.

"Got this #143 Solaris synthesizer in 2018 and sadly has mostly sat unused under its dust cover in that time. Tremendously deep digital synthesizer that can be programmed to make just about any sound you might be able to imagine, including convincing emulations of classics that are near impossible to tell from the real deal. It just ended up being a whole lot more machine than I need, literally everything can modulate everything else inside this machine."

Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about the Roland JV-1080. Is this classic Roland rack synth the Roland Cloud of the 90s? Can these sounds still be used in modern music production or do we have to subscribe to Zenology? Can it hold up with analog synths?

Synth excerpt from Always Rivalled (@No Man's Island)
video upload by Rune Flobakk
"Small excerpt from a new song, Always Rivalled, I am performing with my band @No Man's Island . Wanted to test out my recently acquired LinnDrum, and perform a multitrack one-take by routing the individual outs from the drum machine through a (also recently acquired) @Erica Synths Matrix Mixer, in order to flexibly assign drums to their own input channels. The polysynth parts are played on an Oberheim Matrix-12, and the bass on a John Bowen Solaris. All sounds and effects is generated 'outside the box' (not using any plugins), and only some mixing levelling and EQ is done post-recording.
The pink pedal you get a glimpse of in the beginning is a @Poly Effects Beebo, which I also use for live playing. Recording is done with an Allen & Heath Qu-16 into Logic on Mac.
The full song also includes vocals, guitars, electric bass, and drums."
