TOP 10 Iconic Synth Sounds (that ruled the world)

"In this video I present a list of my top 10 iconic synth sounds. Sounds that ruled the world in terms of chart hits. Sounds are coming from synths as Yamaha DX7, Roland Jupiter-8 and Juno-106, some sampler sounds from the Fairlight and Emulator 2 and Korg M1, D-50 and many more.

In the case of the 'synth brass', lots of other analog synths were used for different songs and hits, like the Oberheim OB-Xa, Elka Synthex, Prophet 5 and more. The same for the 'sync' sound.

External reverb, delay and chorus were used on some of the sounds. All sounds has been mixed and processed in various way to sound good. All the sounds are coming from the gear you see in the video. No softs or VST synths were used.
Two added bonus famous sounds in the video, one in the very beginning and one at the end. First is a variation of the infamous "Orch5" sample from the Fairlight, while the other is from the D-50.

"We are pleased to announce Tom Oberheim as guest of honour for Knobcon Number Six.

Mr Oberheim is the progenitor of the American polyphonic analogue synthesiser and designer of electronic music devices ranging from the Maestro Phase Shifter to the Oberheim DX drum machine. If you have listened to the radio in the past 40 years, it is impossible for you not to have heard sounds he had a hand in.

Tom will be speaking at the annual Knobcon Banquet as well as taking part in a live question-and-answer session hosted by Knobcon organiser Suit & Tie Guy.

Knobcon is a one-of-a-kind synthesizer convention now in it's sixth year. Complete with live music, workshops exhibitors and vendors, Knobcon allows for a fully immersive experience. Held just outside Chicago IL at the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg, the entire event takes place under one roof. If you are interested in electronic-based or experimental music and the tools used to create it, Knobcon is the place for you. The diversity and passion of the Knobcon experience make it enjoyable for all experience levels.

Admission for all 3 days is $50 at the door, $40 online during the month of August.
The Knobcon Banquet featuring Tom Oberheim’s keynote address is an add on to the standard admission. $50 per person, limited seating available.

» Akai's first (and only) preset drum machine, launched in the late 80’s (1989).
» Provides drum sounds unlike those found in competing products at the time. As well as 'stock' kit and percussion sounds, the XR10 is packed with many sounds of its time, such as Peter Gabriel-style gated power toms, big Robert Palmer kicks and snares, trashy Jam and Lewis sounds, Simmons kit and others!
» The sounds are very similar to the classic Linn Drum & the electronic kits do a very good 808 impression! Used by Alec Reece, Prince, Larry Heard (Mr. Fingers), Peter Gabriel…
»The XR10 is one of a few 80s machines that doesn't have a filter (like the Yamaha RX5 and the Linn LM-1) which means that when you pitch down the sounds, you get some crunchy clock noise and aliasing artefacts, which can be quite cool.
» The compact XR10 contains 65 of the most impressive collection of 16 bit digital drum sounds you'll ever hear! PLUS! You can create YOUR OWN SOUNDS, using the extensive editing parameters including sweep, reverse decay, (fine) tune, and more.
»The decay parameter is adjustable from 0-1.5 sec in 31 steps. Other parameters such as Hold and Sweep let you select the desired sustain power and the pitch sweep. Reverse opens a whole new set of sounds! Programs you create can be stored in any of the 32 user programmable memory locations.
