"live set - 3 seperate noises in one video for your convenience! happy to be celebrating my 1000th post on the best internet community in the world, Muffwiggler. thanks to my fellow wigglers for the awesome advice and the awesome music that i listen to constantly!

the first two sounds are more percussion oriented, the last more sequency. i premade the vocal loops to save some time and to save you from hearing too much of my lovely boyvoice."

"live composition for eurorack modular, Korg Monotribe, akai headrush + DD5 and vocals. sequence provided from the iPad. wall 'o noise."

Love the aesthetics of the white cables. It almost sounds like metallic guitar tweaks throughout.

to the sun

Published on Apr 21, 2013 donaldjasoncrunk·25 videos

"about time for a lunchbox Bongo track. i was mesmerized by this patch during my initial explorations of this system - a cycling function clocks the monotribe and hits the 'hang' input of a second cycling function. this function hits the strike inputs of both channels of the Optomix, via its EOR and EOC outputs. the CV from one of the FSRs is routed to the "both" input of the cycling function, which allows for little bongo fills. the second FSR modulates the "fall" input of the cycling bongo function, allowing for little pauses. other sounds provided by vocals and monotribe.

my basement flooded from some recent storms, the carpet in my studio is still wet. this is playing havoc with the grounding in my setup, so this video was somewhat painful (literally) to make. dehumidifer incoming"

"another Erthenvar / Make Noise lunchbox jam, this time sans vocals. just a nice slow buildup, a little tense but with some really pretty sounds from the DPO that almost remind me of plucked strings. abusing the FSRs in this one. monotribe provides periodic kick drum, sustained low bass and white noise. sequence from Littlemidi on the iphone again. any questions? feel free to ask in the comments below!"

Published on Apr 13, 2013 donaldjasoncrunk·23 videos

"live track for the Eurorack Lunchbox Easel, monotribe, vocals and guitar pedals - all atop a crisp bed of xylophone loops. noisy, but this time with a beat. the Lunchbox is sequenced by the Littlemidi sequencer running on iphone, and the DD5 + akai headrush are hooked up via aux send from the mixer. this is my current live rig, just waiting on the MS20 mini to complete it! very portable, a ton of sound from this combo and not enough gear to allow things to spiral out of control. this is of real concern to me, as i tend to run everything on the verge of a feedback loop. balance must be maintained.

no longer will i be hiding my rampant interest in cold war era soviet technology, FYI

the direction i've been moving with the Lunchbox Easel is surprising to me - given the lineage, i'd expect to be working more 'experimentally' with it - but i love these simple melodic sequences coming from the DPO + optomix combo! sounds like no synth i've ever had, so simple but rich in timbre ."

if you're looking for dry demos, check out the 2 tracks on my soundcloud named 'BRECK' and 'ENRIDGE' . life's too short not to loop.

Please remember to visit www.kamagraphrecords.com and check out my new album 'Yankee Notch'. available on digital or cassette!"

Erthenvar / Make Noise Lunchbox Easel [guided tour]

Published on Mar 3, 2013 donaldjasoncrunk·21 videos

"this is a tour of my new "Lunchbox Music Easel" (suggest a better name in the comments, PLEASE!). i try to explain my reasoning behind the module choices, and how it stacks up against the new Buchla Music Easel. i think it does well! this narrative intended for people with modular synthesizer knowledge. non nerds beware

the next video will be some performances with the Lunchbox easel - the sounds you hear in the background of this narrative come from 2 20 minute sets located on my soundcloud, pure lunchbox performances. https://soundcloud.com/donaldcrunk

"ambient/drone jam with minor buildup featuring DPO and cyclebox singing together. cyclebox on bass with help from the STG Soundlabs .COM, and DPO providing all manner of waveshaped noises. i've noticed the DPO is very powerful sounding in the midrange when layered. fantastic oscillator!"

dazed...magnificent - A Tribute to Neil Armstrong

YouTube Published on Aug 26, 2012 by donaldjasoncrunk

Don't miss the related link and note below.

"As I stepped on the moon, I looked around, dazed...magnificent. The vast, sandy silver surface was almost illusory." - Neil Armstrong

'live modular + bass guitar rehearsed improv. upper noises provided by duet of make noise DPO and tip top z3000, cymbals again by STG .SHN, cyclebox doing a variety of modulations and the entire thing clocked by Flame Clockwork. vocal loop thanks to my mouth hole + a digitech RDS 7.6, bass thanks to the epiphone newport.'

"Here's a little bit of trivia you may not know about the RCA theremin in this video. According to Apollo astronaut Neil Armstrong's biographer, Andrew Smith, Armstrong actually took a recording of this theremin with him into space for the moon landing in 1969. The previous owner of this instrument, Dr. Samuel Hoffman, used it on his 1947 recording, MUSIC OUT OF THE MOON. Neil Armstrong liked the sound of it so much that he made a cassette tape of it from his personal record collection and took it with him to the moon."

Makenoise DPO first encounters

YouTube Published on Jul 30, 2012 by donaldjasoncrunk

"having just returned from Trash_Audio synth meet 12 with a new Makenoise DPO and Toppobrillo Quantimator, i'm eager to dig into the modular. All the audio you hear is coming unmodified from the Dual Prismatic Oscillator.

apologies for the camera wiggle, sometimes you just have to rock out!"

via Jason Degelman on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"some DPO action to enjoy. some folks might be interested...

this is pure DPO, no filters/effects/anything other than VCAs and clean mixing, lots of modulation from the rest of the modular obviously."

six patches [eurorack synth]

YouTube Uploaded by donaldjasoncrunk on Feb 27, 2012

"six patches in 8:25 - some of these are 'tonal', some are not. this is patching with abandon.

of special note on these patches are the STG Soundlabs .COM comparator and .MIX moog CP3 based mixer - both of these have incredibly pleasant gain and 'imperfect' attributes.

special thanks also to Hahn Amplifiers for the awesome custom case!"

"shorter live composition for modular synth and assorted looped sounds. in this video the microphone is fed into the Digitech RDS 7.6, which is clocked by a Flame Clockwork. the STG Soundlabs Trigger Sequencer and Graphic Sequencer help to create the patterns, and the primary bassline is played by midi controller (korg ms2000) off camera."

"of special note: the new STG Soundlabs .SHN provides modulation to the PWM input of the primary oscillator, in this case Tip Top Z3000mkII . the secondary oscillator is the Cyclonix Cyclebox. both oscillators are being mixed with an STG .MIX, filtered by the Harvestman Polyvoks and amplitude controlled via STG .VCA's."

Korg Kronos All Excess Party 2k11 with STG Labs

YouTube Uploaded by donaldjasoncrunk on Aug 8, 2011

"Our own stop on the Korg Kronos All-Access Tour. Special thanks to McHale for bringing down the Kronos and letting us mess around and program our own stuff. These patches seem simple, but all utilize some uniquely Kronos feature or another and require a lot of horsepower to even run. This is a mighty mighty keyboard for ambient musics.

Headphones or nice speakers recommended."
