Halls Of Valhalla and the Tiptop Audio system

0.32: VC-MIX on the Z-DSP
3.00: RS/CL808

"Tomio and I had the pleasure of trying the Halls of Valhalla for the first time last night in the system we are bringing to Namm. Here is a fast recording of the patch.

Using HATS909, HATS808, SD808, RS/CL808 and BD909 for drums, two lead sounds made from Z3000/Z2040/Z4000 sequence by the Z8000, all mixed in the MIXZ and sent to the Z-DSP patched out stereo. The effect use is Cathedral with Decay at about 85%, Tone at 70% and Chorus at 70%. The Z4000 out control the the Z2040 frequency sweeps but also get stacked to the VC-MIX on the Z-DSP, this does the gated reverb tail effect on the beat, this ahhh ahhh ahhh sound. Everything is sequenced by a new sequencer that will be showing at Namm."

Tiptop Audio will be at the Big City Music booth 6735 in Hall A this year. See the NAMM Booth list for more.

Published on May 10, 2014 Ivo Ivanov·4 videos

"This is a basic test of the new Valhalla DSP reverb card for the Tiptop Audio Z-DSP Eurorack module.

The demo isn't intended to be comprehensive - I'm just going through the presets and changing some parameters as I go so you can get a general sense for how the reverbs sound.

Tiptop Audio Systems - patch 8

Published on Feb 19, 2015 Tiptop .Audio

"Two systems, actually one and a half, the second system is only half full. Two Z-DSPs and few Z3000 and the beautiful Halls of Valhalla. One DragonFly delay is VC over time from the Z8000, All sounds are played from the Circadian Rhythms, and one MIXZ mixes everything before hitting the z-DSPs. Coming out of the systems with two stereo pairs from the Z-DSPs and one mono from the BD909. There are two Z2040, one for each of the sounds played, and modulated at audio rate by a Z3000. At the center of the black system are two Quantizer prototypes that I’m using in Keyboard mode."

I really need two more Forbidden Planets

I really need two more Forbidden Planets from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"I re-organized my live system to integrate the 3 three Tiptop Audio Forbidden Planet filters into it, All 3 are in High Pass mode and are replacing some other filter I had. Why? because Forbidden Plant's High Pass filter sounds absolutely great on anything I put through it. The only problem now is I need two more as I have 5 high pass and 3 low pass filters in the current patch.

In this Video:

BD808

Low Tom 909, SD808, RS808 -> Vermona VcDrive -> Toppobrillo High Pass -> Tiptop Audio Z2040 Low Pass

Hats909, MA808, Ride Cymbal 909, ONE with a HH sample gong through a VCA (for accents) -> Roland Demora

Tiptop ONE (one shot DOTS sample pitch sequenced from Z8000, gates from Trigger Riot) -> Forbidden Planet -> Z2040 -> R*S Serge ResEQ

Tiptop ONE (V-Hause Chord) -> Forbidden Planet -> Z2040

TG ONE (playing Glitchmachines sample) -> Doepfer Wasp filter (High Pass)

MA808 noise source -> Forbidden Planet -> VCA

Modulation sources: 3x Z4000 VC ADSR envelopes, Z3000 oscillator (LFO speed)

Sequenced with Circadian Rhythms, Trigger Riot, Z8000 and Launch Codes.

Send FX: Z-DSP (Halls Of Valhalla - Plate), Z-DSP (Tape Delay)"

After testing what it does it's time to put the Fold Processor through some real life workout.

1: Z3000 SINE > FOLD PROCESSOR > TTA Z2040 (frequency and amplitude modulated by 2x Z4000)

2. Z3000 Triangle > FOLD PROCESSOR > TTA Z2040 (frequency and amplitude modulated by 2x Z4000)

3. Z3000 SAW > FOLD PROCESSOR > R*S VCFQ low pass (cut off modulated by Z4000 and Doepfer LFO) > WMD "Digital" VCA (modulated by Z4000)

Tiptop Audio: Forbidden Planet and Z2040 filtering BD909 and SNR808

Tiptop Audio: Forbidden Planet and Z2040 filtering BD909 and SNR808 from Station 252 on Vimeo.

"One of the reasons I love my modular drum machine is the flexible processing of individual and grouped sounds. In this video I'm testing the Forbidden Planet / Z2040 dual filer configuration for my non metallic drum sounds.

Drums -> Forbidden Planet Hi-Pass -> Z2040 Low-Pass.

FX: 2x Z-DSP loaded with Plate (Halls Of Valhalla) and Delay

also in the mix: Tiptop Hats909 and a white noise off MA808 filtered through another Forbidden Planet.

Sequenced with Circadian Rhythms and Trigger Riot."

ValhallaDSP Shimmer Cartridge for Tiptop Audio's Z-DSP Released

First revealed back in January of 2015, and in the video above in June of 2015, the Valhalla Shimmer Cartridge for the Tiptop Z-DSP is now available. Details follow via ValhallaDSP:

"The Z-DSP Shimmer cartridge has 8 original algorithms, designed to combine lush reverberation with multiple voices of pitch shifting, to create ethereal pads, rich chordal textures, dissonant clouds of sound, and a variety of other sounds that are perfect for electronic music. The algorithms are customized to work with the Tiptop Audio Z-DSP Eurorack module.

There are 6 reverb algorithms in the Z-DSP Shimmer cart, arranged in order of complexity:

Fast Shimmer: A modulated reverb that quickly decays away into an endlessly pitch shifting tail. The shift interval can be set between +/- 12 semitones. Perfect for that classic “octave up” shimmer sound.
Slow Shimmer: Similar to Fast Shimmer, but with a much slower attack.
Dual Shimmer: Two pitch shifted voices, embedded within a larger modulated reverb network, shifting the reverb decay in both positive and negative directions. Try slowly sweeping the Shift control in this mode for ridiculously cinematic sounds.
Triple Shimmer: Two pitch shifted voices embedded within the reverb decay network, plus a third voice external to the network. This allows the user to have a reverb with +12 and -12 semitones of feedback, plus a stable +7 semitones voice without feedback.
Quad Shimmer: Four pitch shifted voices feeding into a lush modulated reverb. This allows for a variety of dissonant and consonant chordal textures, with the max Shift setting corresponding to a rich major chord.
ClusterVerb: Four pitch shifted voices embedded within the feedback network of a modulated reverb. The result quickly becomes dissonant or metallic. Perfect for insta-Ligeti, or Penderecki In A Box™.
In addition, the Z-DSP Shimmer cart features 2 special effects algorithms:

Quad Detune: 4 short pitch shifted delays, feeding back on each other. A variety of chorus, detuned, and dissonant effects can be obtained through this mode. Turn up the Feedback for maximum fun.
PitchEcho: A single pitch shifting voice, combined with a tape echo emulation = sound mangling joy. Turn up the feedback for barberpole self oscillation, and sweep the decay time for all sorts of swoopy glitches.
The Z-DSP Shimmer cart retails for $75, and will be available at your favorite Eurorack store in the next few days."
