FOLKTEK ART SYNTH SEQUENCER

via this auction
"The Scape Sequencer was originally designed as an accompaniment to the time machine or any of its close cousins, ie. the Time Scape, however, it is made to work with any piece of gear that has a point to point patchbay including any of the patchable folktek works. Just as well, every patchable circuit bent, modified or custom instrument with a patchbay can be controlled by the Scape Sequencer and will be given entirely new dimension. Drum machines, casio sk-1's, keyboards, effect machines etc. so long as they have a patchbay. Most things with a point to point patchbay will output a clock signal (if it doesn't have a clock out already) which means you can bypass the internal clock on this sequencer and synch to whatever you like.

It gives entirely new dimension to everything we've tried it out with. Playability is simple - there are two "mains" to control respectively, parts 1-4 and parts 5-8 of the whole 8 part step sequencing - these are patched to any points on the main patchbay, then parts 1-8, any or all of them, are patched to alternate points on the patchbay making switches as the step proceeds.

In addition, parts can be added with the "add step" button, so intead of having one part proceed step by step, any number of parts can be addedcreating a matrix effects and connecting multiple points at once and in succesion. Parts can then be subtracted as desired using the "subtract step" button.

Furthermore, all parts can be erased at once or the step can be paused with the push of a button.

There is a time knob and a swing knob to control timing variation and it has jacks for clock in and clock out."

Tristan Perich: 1-Bit Symphony Live

via Tristan Perich:

"Hi Everyone!

This coming week is a really important one for me.

If the $100 ticket price for Tuesday's benefit is too much, on Friday I kick off a big USA tour with Lesley Flanigan at the Stone for a much more reasonable $10. It's the official premiere of my new piece for harpsichord and electronics, and Lesley will be performing her beautiful speaker instruments with voice. [It's also your first official chance to pick up a pre-release copy of 1-Bit Symphony.]

And starting Wednesday, bitforms is presenting my first solo exhibition (featuring three 6-foot machine drawings, a 1-bit video installation, and two listening stations), on view through November 7th.

Hope to see you.

Regards,
Tristan

"This is not exactly something about synthesizers. But it is still somewhat relevant because it shows how a few artists experimented with electronic music before the synthesizer was invented. It is in Dutch but it is easy to see what is going on."

Wee Theremin

YouTube via kenmoore
"For my wife's baby shower our friends Sarah and Mika got us a tiny Gakken Theremin so we can get our girl a head start as the next Theremin virtuosa. It's a fun but very sensitive instrument, and since Sidney can't even get her hand in her mouth yet I'll wait a few more months before starting her lessons. THANKS SARAH AND MIKA!"

Expression pedal to MIDI continuous controller

"DIY project to make a box to send MIDI continuous controller messages based on expression pedal input. My reason for doing this was to drive the wah effect in Line6 GearBox (MIDI CC#4) using my M-Audio EX-P pedal. ... since I have a Toneport UX2 it has no expression pedal input. Based around a battery powered homebrew Arduino clone built on stripboard."

Tag Team Patch 10/24/09 - Analogue Systems Frequency Shifter

YouTube via bigcitymusic
"Here's a little patch we drummed up with our friend Don. Bad pun, good patch. The Jomox 999 is having it's frequencies shifted! We're also using the envelope follower function from the rs35 External Processor module. The rs50 is shaping the envelope out of the rs35 so we can trigger an rs60 envelope generator more accurately. There's actually a couple of envelopes modulating the rs 240. We're also using our shaped pulse to clock the rs200 sequencer, using output A to modulate the rs240 even more. We also used a little too much Eventide 2016 Reverb but that's okay ;) Fun stuff."
