MFOS Noise Toaster Presentation

YouTube Published on Aug 9, 2012 by theraywilsonshow

"Hey everyone... YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS!

The MFOS Noise Toaster is the latest LO-FI project we've come up with deep in the MFOS underground lab. I really think people who attend noise fests, noise battles, synth-diy meets, the symphony (alright maybe not the symphony...) are going to consider this standard equipment (symphony during intermission may be OK). I have to say that in some places having this much fun with a single nine volt battery might just be totally illegal so be careful where you bring it! The Noise Toaster has: One wide range VCO, a WHITE NOISE GENERATOR, a simple but fun VCF, a simple but effective VCA, an AR envelope generator, an LFO with several waveforms, a line out jack, and a nicely normalized switching scheme. But wait... there's more! Last but not least we've put a 1W amp and speaker right into the unit. I want to emphasize that this device is LO-FI. It is not a temperature compensated, V/Octave trackin, needs calibratin', must have highest quality components - kind of thing. This thing is just a freakin' blast to goof with. Prepare to create a limitless cadre of amazing and unusual sounds. And of course there will be mods in the future. How about connecting your WSG to the Noise Toaster's filter and VCA... I already put some pads on the PC board to facilitate it. You could even modulate the Noise Toaster with the WSG (pads for that too)! I plan to offer kits and PC boards as well as complete units. I'll put a blurb on the MFOS home page when the project is posted.

Why is it called the "Noise Toaster" you ask? Well, what would you call something that has a bunch of knobs and switches that, when twiddled, cause unusual sounds and noises to pop out? Right... Then... On to the next project.

Thanks for watching."

"Muza is on the AppStore for a SPECIAL LAUNCH PRICE!
Muza - Andrey Smetanin

If you like the music in this video you can download it for free here http://snd.sc/QKogC8

Here are some testimonials from professional reviewers:

"Muza is a gorgeously done midi controller with its own built in smooth sounds. Quality design and control is of the essence with this app- too many controllers have a boring look and clumsy feel.
However, Muza changes all that and adds a vital factor- your intuition!"
Zaxis, http://www.zaxism.com.

"Muza is pretty cool and looks stunning! I've been playing around with this instrument for a day now and it's a lot of fun and has a huge amount of potential to develop and grow into a very powerful tool.
It's very easy to play and can help to come up with ideas and melodies you wouldn't arrive at if you sat down and started composing on a conventional keyboard."

"Dear buyers, up for the auction is CHIZIK, first time on eBay, rare vintage soviet toy piano, - in working condition with power supply (220V attached). What is significant - why it is sold AS IS - the key contacts are need to be cleaned, and also 2 knob caps are missing, otherwise it works OK. No reserve so grab a bargain, especially if you are synth collector. Happy bidding!"

"Up for auction is a fully working Synare SX3 Analog Drum Synth. It sounds huge & spacey. and is super clean. It has wear associated with being 30+ years old - the drum pad and 3 main screws have been replaced, the volume knob is inoperable (but set at the loudest setting), and a ludwig drum mount probably replaced the original. It's certainly not mint, but very playable as witnessed by the video"

SpaceWiz Tutorials with Jordan Rudess

SpaceWiz - Jordan Rudess: Wizdom Music, LLC

"Immerse yourself in the wonders of a visual/audio experience like no other! Take the role of viewer AND creator in a galaxy where you reign.

SpaceWiz allows you to interact with and control your environment at the highest level of complexity. With the manipulation of your own fingers on the playing surface, together with the technological wonders of the Chaos and Satellite generators, you fabricate particles, which then collide into planets. You can even add the onboard real time synthesizer with its independent set of sounds and parameters to create your sonic masterpiece.

Regardless of your desires, this app will reward you with a mind-blowing creation. Sit back, and allow SpaceWiz to guide you on a uniquely woven audio-visual journey. Enjoy the ultimate sonic/visual wallpaper, or get busy and start throwing your own particles around the universe. Try rolling the dice for total randomization and see what happens! For creators who want to play a larger role in their SpaceWiz experience, you also have the opportunity to build your audio/visual world from the void! Jordan Rudess explains:

"We partnered with developer Tobias Miller to see if an otherworldly dream I had could be made into reality. He was able to bring it completely to life."

Rudess and Miller worked together to create every unique sound and image. There are over 250 on-board instruments, as well as forty-five presets and access to control external midi instruments.

NORD DRUM Synth Edit

YouTube Published on Aug 9, 2012 by AudioCentralMagazine

"Nord Drum is a four part/three layer synthesizer with separate control for Click, Noise and Tone; there's a lot of internal parameter for sculpting the "percussive" sound. Too sad, in V 1.0 there's no capability for remote MIDI programming... The line out of Nord Drum goes straight into digital recorder and you'll need some subwoofer or some decent monitors to hear the bass frequencies coming out from this babe..."

"Mega-modded Omnichord Synthesizer.

Hacked, Circuit Bent, Modded & Stuffed full of funky new circuitry.

Similar mods to my previous 'Steam-Punk' Omnichord, but with this one I also went a bit mental with additional circuitry - there's a Filter with LFO, Space Echo (analog delay), a comprehensive Rhythm Patch-Bay & an integrated Step-Sequencer....

The Step Sequencer can be used to generate custom rhythms, or just add additional beats to the preset rhythms.
It also has a row of switches, dedicated envelope generator (sonodrome's 555 envelope generator) and Knob to allow sequenced Pitch Modulation. Yes, can now program tempo Synced Pitch twisting :)

Best of all, the sequencer can be used to twist & Modulate the ECHO, in the same way as the pitch modulation!!!

Check out the mental astral sounds that a Twisted Echo can produce..............

Cool eh?

This Omnichord has been another epic project, the machine was in a very bad way when I got it - power-amp & logic clock were both busted, and there was heat damage to the board too. All these faults were caused by a combination of wrong polarity power supply, and suzuki's decision to omit a polarity diode on the machine :(
I mean seriously man, a diode costs about 1 penny....
Perhaps Suzuki were cashing in on the repair business too?

Anyway, I replaced an IC to make the chord generator chips work again, repaired the heat damage on the board, and replaced the busted power-amp with an array of transistor amps to retain the vintage sound.
Also gave it a new set of caps, and added about 30 little caps to remove the unwanted triggering Clicks / Pops.
It's still a bit noisy, but certainly an improvement on the original.

There are metal touch points dotted around this machine that will generate bleepy tones, and modulating squarewaves. Depending on which touch-points are used, you can generate pleasing clean tones, dark bass or varying types of distortion. Combine this with the Glitch Controls to prodcuce bleepy arpeggios, some lovely techno-scrobber sounds and de-tuned discord.

I think this will be my final Omnichord OM-27. Reckon I've exhausted the circuit bending potential for this machine, so next Omnichord's gonna be a different model."

Update: two pics and additional details via this auction.

"Internal Speaker & Battery compartment have been removed to make way for various new Knobs, Switches, Metal Bolts, Metal Touch-Points, Buttons & Flashing Lights. The machine is powered with a standard 12 volt adapter. Audio is provided by a 1/4" Jack Socket on the front of the machine. I do not have the Rubber Pick for this machine - to use the harp-plate you'll need to press quite hard or just lick your finger. Apart from this, the machine functions just as a standard Omnichord OM-27, with no functions or features affected. Inside the machine is an arsenal of funky new circuitry, this includes a Filter & LFO, an Analog Delay (SPACE ECHO) and an Integrated STEP-SEQUENCER for creating original Rhythms, or adding to existing rhythms. The Step-Sequencer can also be used to program Pitch-Modulation, AND also to Modulate the ECHO RATE. Both the Sequencer-Pitch Mod and the Sequencer-Echo Mod have a dedicated envelope generator and an 'Amount' Knob for Pitch-Up or Pitch-Down."

Rebel Technologies Stoixeia Test

YouTube Published on Aug 9, 2012 by ISOTROPOSPHERE

"ATTENTION: This module requires that your 5V bus be active on your distribution board.

Rebel Technologies Stoixeia euclidian sequencer.

The stoixeia is getting a pulse from the Livewire Vulcan modulator LFO (center led) and the two sections are generating sequences from this pulse. Seq. A is about ten steps and pulsing on the fourth or fifth step. Seq. B is about six steps and is pulsing on one or two in those steps. Outs going to the Din Sync Drum Dokta.

I play with the upper left knob on sequence A which is adjusting the start position of the sequence, sometimes you get a pulse sometimes your moving behind the sequence and you get silence, then double or triple pulses. I had better luck after shooting this video.

I am also playing with the Intellijel micro step in the video and this is controlling a channel on the HEXvca which has one of the raw outputs from the Drum Dokta going through the Plague Bearer and onto the HEXvca.

Hall reverb on everything. Vulcan LFO also going to 4MS RCD for additional clock manipulation and triggers out to the Drum Dokta.

The Stoixeia is a great module for drum module sequencing, I think another one maybe in my future."
