A Patch A Day, No. 34

Published on Jun 11, 2013 Hamilton Ulmer·35 videos

"This patch was an experiment in allowing a slow-trigger cycle to modulate the pitch of several oscillators.

Here, I used a handful of oscillating sources, and attenuated / inverted the cycle to have each one arrive at a different part of a nice chord.

The pile-on of the fundamental frequency is a little intense. In hindsight I should have had it attenuated at the bottom of the envelope, and crescendo to the splaying o the notes. This sort of thing is much easier to do when you're singing."

Mattson SQ16 Euro Sequencer Take 2

Published on May 2, 2013

"3 Oscillators tuned slightly apart, all gate and pulse width triggered by the Mattson and a 4MS Pingable Envelope Generator w/ a TipTop BD909. The main toggle in the dark (sorry) was simply with the Gain of the Amp from all that CV Gate in at nearly every 1V per octave"

Mattson SQ816 Take Live

Published on May 13, 2013

"Everything here is live as it evolves. Using a patch pictured on my Facebook page, I used the Mattson as "the brain". MIDI out is running all channels in Ableton, as a CV, sequencer, groove machine, and performance model using no clips or loops in Live. Three drum kits and two Oscillators are all being triggered by the Mattson SQ816. Next time, I would at least add a live Moog bass line with at least some quarter notes in there. This is second time that I tried this."

Korg DW-8000: arpeggio, syn strings (patches factory A - 56 Harp and 31 Low Strings- both edited)
Yamaha DX7: FM bass (patch "*BASS-OBXA")
LinnDrum: 16 bar slow pattern"

Thomas Dolby Interview on Moog Music

via Moog Music Inc. on Facebook

"Thomas Dolby talks about his experiences with Moog synthesizers, his musical process, and his history with many different musicians.

Read the interview here"

Short excerpt: "When were your first experiences with Moogs? When did you first get the opportunity to experiment and play with them?

There tended to be Minimoogs lying around professional studios round-about the end of the 70's - 76-77-ish when I first got into studios. And when the Micromoog came out I picked one up second hand out of the back of Melody Maker. And that was the first off-the-shelf synth I'd owned. Before that the only synth I'd owned was a Transcendent 2000..."
