Valley of the ARPs

via Richard Devine on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

CMS modular in the middle. CMS stands for Cirocco Modular Synthesizers at discretesynthesizers.com.

CMS has 3 main divisions: CMS Discrete Synthesizers, CMS Technical Services & Upgrades, & The Novachord Restoration Project.

Phil Cirocco is likely the worlds leading ARP tech.  I'd say leading expert as well, although I don't know if that would be him or David Friend working on the new KORG ARP Odyssey clone, and of course Alan R Pearlman is still around.  Philip Dodds however has passed on.

Shifting Sands 'Mac-R/Elements/Godwin

"Here's a video that I did with the MacBeth Micromac-R (pounding the bass) and some (pre) Elements circuits- basically what will happen in your Elements Synthesizer! Because this was multitracked, and not live, I used some of my recent photos- mostly from Berlin, as a back drop! There's a Godwin String Concert playing it's part on here too!"

Mutable Instruments Yarns (initial test)

Published on Apr 16, 2014 bigcitymusic·325 videos

"The first section of the video demonstrates Yarns (duophonic, 2x monophonic) '2M' mode. Two MIDI to 1V/OCT Pitch CV's are independently tracking 2 D-LFO channels. The Yarns 2x gate messages are patched to the Cwejman CTG-VC's. The MIDI Clock message is used to Clock sync the Cwejman RG-6 which is lightly modulating the Attack and Decay times of a Cwejman CTG-VC, which is enveloping the two D-LFO oscillators in the 4MS VCA Matrix. Both oscillators are run through the Cwejman SPH-2 Spatial Phaser. We manually experimented with switching D-LFO waveforms while the MIDI sequence was running through Yarns.

The second section of the video demonstrates Yarns (monophonic) '1M' mode. A MIDI to 1V/OCT Pitch CV is sequencing the Cwejman D-LFO oscillator 1. The second oscillator of the D-LFO is synced to the first. Both oscillators are run through the 4MS VCA Matrix. The Yarns gate CV is triggering the Mutable Instruments Tides, of which the bipolar output is multed out via stackable and enveloping both channnels of Cwejman D-LFO in the 4MS VCA Matrix. The Yarns Velocity CV is modulating the level of the Tides envelope. By programming dynamic velocity into the MIDI sequence, the Yarns Velocity CV highlights the expressive and rhythmic potential of the Tides envelope. The MIDI Clock message from the Yarns is sent to the 4MS Quad Pingable LFO which is modulating the RATE CV of the second channel of the Cwejman D-LFO (sync ratio modulation)."

Virtual ANS Based PhonoPaper: Play Music from Paper - How to Print your Voice and Play It Back

Published on Apr 16, 2014 Alexander Zolotov·123 videos

The software is currently available for Android. Note this is based on Virtual ANS which is also available for iOS. See the details below.

PhonoPaper: How to Print your Voice and Play It Back

"What is PhonoPaper

PhonoPaper is:
format of graphical representation of the sound (music, human voice, etc.); in other words, it is the 2D audio barcode (by analogy with the QR-code);
real-time PhonoPaper-code reader (using the camera);
PhonoPaper-code generator (sound to image converter).

Key features:
PhonoPaper-code is analogue, so it is not so sensitive to different types of the image distortion (bad camera, dark picture, wrinkled paper, etc.); at least you will hear the "silhouette" of the original sound;
PhonoPaper does not require access to the network; its code is self-contained;
PhonoPaper-code can be played in real-time with hand-controlled speed and direction;
PhonoPaper-code can be drawn by hand (paper version of the Virtual ANS synth);
PhonoPaper is free!
Examples of usage:
voice messages (or pieces of music) on the billboards, posters, postcards, goods;
audio labels for phonorecords;
audio examples in some textbooks;
art-experiments;
learning the basics of the spectral music.
PhonoPaper is based on the Virtual ANS engine - it is a software simulator of the unique Russian synthesizer ANS.
So if you want to make more complex PhonoPaper-codes - use the Virtual ANS."
