Published on May 12, 2015 bigcitymusic

"The 4MS Shifting Inverting Signal Mingler (SISM) is mingling signals from the Sputnik West Coast Random Source (WCRS) and Mutable Instruments Yarns while outputting CV to the Intellijel Shape Shifter for FM and tonal modulation. Yarns Gate to WCRS Quantized Random Source Pulse Input. Quantized Random Source Pulse Input to SISM Ch1 input shifted. Ch1 out to Shape Shifter controlling wavetable harmonics. WCRS Fluctuating Random Voltage 1 to SISM Ch2 input inverted. SISM Ch. 3 output to Shape Shifter Ratio output. SISM MIX (SW) output to Shape Shifter Shape 2 input. SISM MIX output to Shape Shifter INT. FM input.

Cyclic Skew Introduction

Published on May 12, 2015 Pulp Logic

"The Cyclic-Skew is a basic modulation source in the 1U tile format. It has two modes of operation; Cycle mode and Envelope mode which are set by the toggle switch on the front panel. In cycle mode it operates as a variable shape LFO where you can set the Rate and the Skew. It has similar operation and range as the LFO in the Korg MS-20. Unlike the Korg LFO, the Cyclic Skew has the ability to reset the LFO on an external trigger event.

In Envelope mode the Trigger input produces a single envelope each time it receives a trigger or gate signal. If a new trigger occurs before the envelope completes a reset takes place and the envelope with restart from the bottom of the cycle.

On the back of the tile is a pair of Dip switches for setting the output to either Un-ipolar or Bi-polar and for setting the output level."

"If you're looking at this, you probably already know what it is. Mine is the later, 120 program, 8 voice model. It's a perfect 10/10 sonically, plays like a dream, and only has a few minor scratches near the top. Before its life here, it was living in San Francisco since the early 80's in a music studio. As far as I know, it's never been gigged. As far as recent repairs done, it's been through service by Greg at Analog Synth Service of Oakland within the past year, and has had the following done: Keyboard: cleaned contacts, replaced key bushings. Front Panel: cleaned switches & pots. Battery replaced. Replaced faulty CEM3310 envelope generator chip ($66) on voice 6. Voice card 7: replaced trimmers; replaced caps; replaced critical VCO2 resistors; reflowed board connectors. Bypass caps replaced; tuning & scaling of power supply, CPU boards, voice cards and mod board; several opamps & CMOS ICs replaced on voice cards (resonance, 2-pole VCF, etc). Because of the amount of restoration that's been done on it, I'm asking a price a bit above the average."

First Day with Roland System-1M

"Just received the new module today and have yet to fully explore its capabilities. Most of this video is the Arturia MicroBrute running though the System 1M's filter and FX. The Roland TR-8 is supplying the beat and master clock MIDI OUT to the MicroBrute's MIDI IN. The MicroBrute's sequencer is triggering both its own synth and the System 1M via CV/Gate OUTs. The MicroBrute's LFO (synced to MIDI) CV out it running into the Sys1M's Filter LFO Input. Audio from the Sys1M is fed into the TR-8's external audio input and the headphone out is running right into the Canon T3i's microphone input (hence the distortion in a few spots). Stay tuned for more videos to come."

New MATRIXSYNTH Search Boxes on the Site

Blogger's built in post search box has been moved to the right. Below it is the previous Google search box. Give them both a try. I find the Blogger search useful when I want to search and sort through multiple posts or when I'm looking for a specific post. The results come up in post format that are sorted by relevance but can be then sorted by date.  I find the Google search box useful as a backup.  Google results come up in list format.

Update: I was originally going to try out a new Google search box that brought up results in a nicer format, but there appears to be a bug with it. For some reason it was being triggered and brought up results when using the Blogger search above it. That's not good, so I went back to the previous one for now.

Korg Mono/Poly Vintage Analog Synthesizer w/MIDIPoly MIDI Kit SN 378305

"Very clean early 80's Korg Mono/Poly. It is in remarkable condition for its age with only a few minor marks/ indentations/ flaking vinyl on the sides, bottom edge, and front panel. There is no sun damage to the knobs as you normally see. The screws (except for a couple on the back of the synth) still have that original shine. The white Korg logo on the back is very clean and shiny. The front corners are not all chipped up as you normally see on these synths. For the most part it looks nearly brand new. Please see photos for details.

The synth is functioning as it should. All keys play the correct notes, all sliders function, all knobs work and aren't scratchy, the keyboard scaling and filter are correctly calibrated. Voltage is standard US voltage. There are no issues with the functionality of the synth.

The synth comes with the original manual, original patch sheets manual, and a rare overlay that I assume was used in stores to show the capabilities of the synth. I believe I also have the original box somewhere in a storage closet. I keep everything! If I have it, and I can find it, I'll include it in the auction but will ship it double-boxed to preserve the collector value of the synth.

A MIDIpolis MIDIpoly MIDI kit has been professionally installed in this Mono/Poly to allow it to be controlled externally using a MIDI sequencer or computer. The kit is completely reversible (no soldering) and all parts that were removed will be included in the supplied plastic case. I'm not sure why you would want to reverse the kit though. The MIDIpoly kit brings the Mono/Poly into the modern age and makes it a much more useful synth. All the original functions of the Mono/Poly are kept. The following functions are added:

- Key notes are sent and received as MIDI on the selected MIDI channel
- VCO's can be triggered individually by velocity
- Notes generated by the arpeggiator are also sent as MIDI
- Received Pitch Bend MIDI data alters pitch bend
- Received Modulation CC MIDI messages alter filter cutoff
- Received Portamento Time CC MIDI messages switch portamento on/off
- A new sample and hold modulation can be routed
- Keyboard action is significantly improved
- The EFFECTS button now does not reset the key assign mode to unison
- Arpeggio can be synced to MIDI clock (various clock settings)"

Korg MiniKorg 2 (Univox 700S) Vintage Analog Synthesizer with CV Inputs

"Very clean early 70's Univox 700S, also known as the Korg MiniKorg 2. It is in remarkable condition for its age with only a few minor marks/chips on the wood side panels and some light wear on the front panel. Please see photos for details.

The synth is functioning as it should. All keys play the correct notes, all sliders function, the keyboard and filter are correctly calibrated. Voltage is standard US voltage. There are no issues with the functionality of the synth.

This is the same model of synth used by Vangelis, Kitaro (his favorite synth), the Human League, The Cars (MiniKorg 700 model), Daniel Miller (Warm Leatherette), etc.

A Kenton CV/Gate/Filter kit has been professionally installed to allow external control using a MIDI to CV/GATE converter. There is a toggle switch to enable/disable the keyboard (you have to choose whether to trigger it externally or from the keyboard). Older Korg synths have Hz/V scaling so your converter will need to support this functionality. Many converters, particularly Kenton models, support this feature."
