DreamsOfWires - AJH Mini Mod 'Moog days revisited'

Published on Oct 7, 2016 DreamsOfWires

"A re-recording of a video I originally made using the Moog Slim Phatty a couple of years ago. I thought it'd be fun to try it with some authentic Minimoog sounds using 3 oscillators. In the original recording I used a very dense Eventide Space patch, which was almost like an instrument in itself (albeit a rather nice one), and so it added a lot to the sound that wasn't really there to begin with. Unfortunately, I sold that some time ago, so this time I'm using Kymatica's AUFX:DUB and Virsyn's Audio Reverb within AUM on an iPad - In this version the effects are a little more modest so that you can hear the true sound of the synth better. I first recorded the track dry into a separate channel, then used the fileplayer to send the recording through the effects so that I could experiment with different settings and levels, then record a mix once I was happy with it (which you can see in the top-left of the video).
The video is far from what I wanted it to be, but my PC has almost completely died over the last couple weeks, so editing was near impossible. I'll have to get a new CPU and motherboard soon I guess.
The original track is on my album here: https://tomorrowthecure.bandcamp.com/..."

Hurricane Matthew Jam

Published on Oct 7, 2016 Nick Jackson

"I am holed up in my residence in the Florida Keys with shutters over the windows, waiting for Matthew to pass. The weather here is just a little gusty at best, but other places have not been as lucky.

Anyway, it seemed like a good day to jam on some synth. This is a live performance on the Korg Minilogue plugged through a Mutable Instruments Ripples filter and then through my guitar pedalboard with a few goodies engaged. Sorry for the awkward frame, but my tripod broke and this is the only way I can get it to sit now lol.

Thank you very much for listening."

Keep safe Nick!!!, and all other MATRIXSYNTH readers bracing the storm! If you are in Hurricane Matthew territory, leave a comment in this post and let us know how you are holding up!

Suzanne Ciani Lecture (Montréal 2016) | Red Bull Music Academy

Uploaded on Oct 4, 2016 Red Bull Music Academy

"A true synthesizer pioneer, Suzanne Ciani’s love of electronic music began in 1968 during a field trip to MIT, but it was her decade-long adventure mastering the Buchla 200 that would define her career. She worked in commercials and in the late 80’s and 90’s redefined herself again as a five-time Grammy-nominated new age artist. In her 2016 Red Bull Music Academy lecture, she talked about her history as well as her recent collaborative effort with fellow Buchla player Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith.

The Red Bull Music Academy is a global music institution committed to fostering creativity in music. We celebrate music, its culture, and the transformative minds behind it. Begun in 1998, the Academy has taken the core principles that underlie its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and city-wide festivals throughout the year."

Published on Oct 7, 2016 Bastl Instruments

That is just too cute, and too cool.

"Kastle is a pocket size modular synthesizer that runs on batteries and produces unique modulations and lo-fi sounds. It is a lot of fun on its own but it also interfaces smoothly with other gear and greatly enhances modular system of any size. With its low price point it is perfect for anyone especially beginners!
The Synth version combines complex oscillator and LFO with stepped waveform generator.
