confined spaces #2
Published on Apr 16, 2020 wildchurch
More interesting gear from wildchurch. This appears to be the first post to feature the Gluon. Note the record player running in reverse.
"More noises from the closet...
Sounds:
string drone machine
reversible/vari-speed turntable with English conversation instruction record played backwards at wrong speed
modified cassette player (variable speed) playing tape of drum loop
'Gluon' a ribbon controlled drone generator
Effects:
Aria spring reverb
Korg SDD-3300"
Update: some info on the Gluon:
"It's a one-off but something I'd like to revisit with improvements. It's a simple oscillator circuit using an LM324 opamp with a sparkfun soft pot as ribbon controller for the frequency. There's additionally a photo-resistor in series with the soft pot acted on by 2 LEDs - one flashing at variable rate, the other of adjustable brightness; both controlled by 555 timers. Between them, they alter the pitch in subtle or not so subtle ways, creating a vibrato/LFO effect. Honestly speaking, more care went into the housing and aesthetics than sonics - without any external FX, it's quite unpleasant and unmusical. The term Gluon comes from particle physics but I named the device such after the album of the same name by the Japanese group Hi-Posi, which is both very pleasant and musical."

Dr. Blankenstein's "Boom-A-Ring" The Electronic Didgeridoo of the Future !
"This one doesn't need too much explaining, the title really says it all. It's an electronic didgeridoo with the illumiringer effect built into it. There is only one in the world, some will say that's a good time... some might not. You can expect nothing less from a one of a kind prototype. Since I am one of the world's worst didgeridoo players, I thought it best to let her go. I am sure there is someone out there that is a great player and deserves to own this sucker more than myself. Before doing so, I wanted to make a proper video of it (I don;t think I'll be making anymore anytime soon. This one was built years ago). The video is longer than I would have liked it to be, but I had a lot of ground to cover. Feel free to skip to the middle when the real demo action starts."

New 2016 Vako Orchestron Disc - DREHORGEL Released
Uploaded on Oct 25, 2016 optigandotcom
"Now taking pre-orders! Place your order at http://optigan.com/shoptigan/new-opti...
A new release in our line of Vako Orchestron discs, DREHORGEL. It's unlikely that there will be sufficient demand to do a second run of 25 of these discs, so your best bet is to buy as many of these as you need while you can!
DREHORGEL is a newly recorded sound for the Orchestron. It's a small, hand-cranked street organ that plays punched music rolls, similar to a calliope. The drehorgel featured here is owned by Pat Quilter of Quilter Labs. For our disc, we chose the unique "trill" sound of the drehorgel, which produces repeated notes. Great for playing creepy circus type music!
PLEASE NOTE: This disc WILL NOT play properly in an Optigan! They WILL play, but the sounds will NOT be mapped correctly to the keyboard- they will be mapped mostly haphazardly across the chord buttons. Please don't order this disc expecting to easily use it in an Optigan. In the future we will be porting the Orchestron sounds to the Optigan- please be patient! :)
Stay tuned for more Orchestron discs, both new and remastered titles!"

Cat Full of Ghosts YOWLER Kickstarter Campaign Opens Design to Supporters
YOWLER KICKSTARTER VIDEO from Cat Full of GHOSTS on Vimeo.
"The Kickstarter video for a synthesizer that the buyers help design.
www.kickstarter.com/projects/218568730/the-yowler-a-community-built-diy-noise-synth"
"About this project
Low epic throbbing halls, rasping vocal choruses, burning thick churning waves of static. The Yowler is waiting.
The Yowler is a versatile little noise/drone synth, don't let it's size fool you, it is packed with features most small synths don't have:
External trigger + decay: trigger the Yowler from external gear, use it as a drum synth
Built in speaker + mono/stereo output: means you can use it with mono gear like guitar pedals or a modular synth, or stereo gear like mixers, headphones etc...
Pitch knobs + light dependent pitch control: get crazy sounds from the three oscillators by shining light on them
BUT WAIT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE...
If the minimum successful funding amount is raised, you get the Yowler as you see it in the video, with all the features described. BUT, once we reach the funding goal backers will be able to contribute to the design and development of the final product. How? Read on.
WHAT'S A COMMUNITY BUILT SYNTH?
Ever $1,000AU above the fully funded amount unlocks a bunch new options for features that the backers get to vote on having included in the final design. Some of these upgrades are aesthetic, like better knobs and buttons, others are extra features like a filter or the design becoming open-source, or Eurorack compatibility, and others are design improvements, like a case, a thicker PCB, or rubber feet.
The idea is that as a community the backers will steer and shape they Yowler through their choices. The more people who support the Yowler the better it gets.
When each voting milestone ($1,000AU over the funding goal) is reached, I will send out a survey to backers to decide between two new features. If enough voting milestones are passed then features are passed over will return for a second chance of inclusion. If your favourite feature missed out early on, with enough backers, it may still end up in the final product!

Roland SH-5 Samples from Sample From Mars

"The top line of the revolutionary Roland SH series is rarely talked about, yet it includes some of the most powerful synthesizers of all time. There's the SH-101, SH1, SH-3A, SH-7... the list goes on. And while these synths are all excellent sounding in their own right, the SH-5 is undoubtedly the King, with its huge oscillators, multimode filters, extensive modulation possibilities and a brilliant mixer at the heart of it all. In our opinion, the SH-5 is one of Roland's greatest mono synths of all time."

"Now available for pre-order!

GUITARSCAPE is the first Optigan disc in an asymmetrical meter- in this case, 5/4. The chord buttons feature bass guitar riffs, with drums on the SFX rockers. The keyboard scale features clean guitar tones, and like the other discs in our "scape" series, the notes are rhythmically articulated in a variety of syncopated patterns. This makes the scale generally more suited to chords than melodic playing, but both approaches produce nice effects, either forward or in reverse. The bass patterns have been specifically written to allow for a maximum of complimentary chord button combinations, such that pressing certain buttons at the same time produces composite, complex bass patterns. And if 5/4 is a bit too odd for your needs, you can always change chords on, say, every 4th beat, and you'll get even more complex pattern cycles. All of these effects are demonstrated in this demo video.

"Also, for a very limited two-week time period only, from now until March 3rd 2016, we’re offering an opportunity to buy discs from our back-catalog. Normally we’re not able to keep these titles in stock, because historically the vendor that makes the raw discs has required a minimum order of 25 copies of any given title. Since our cost for these copies is quite high, and the demand is quite low (the Optigan has a very devoted, yet very small following mostly limited to owners of the vintage hardware), we can’t afford to buy them in such large quantities and remain thousands of dollars in the red while the orders slowly trickle in. BUT, we've established a once-a-year arrangement where the vendor is willing to take a bulk order of titles from our back catalog without requiring the usual minimum number of copies for each title. This all has to happen in one fell swoop, so we’re limiting the time frame in which folks can place their orders. Once the deadline passes, we’ll order only as many copies as we have actual orders for. It will then take a month or two to get all those copies fabricated and sent out. Your patience is appreciated! Unfortunately, we cannot offer any sort of bulk discounts or other types of custom orders beyond what is offered in our store. In the past we’ve experimented with different bundle pricing schemes, etc, so the prices set for those bundles will remain in effect. All discs will ship with the printed jackets exactly as pictured on the product page for each item."
