The Brooklyn Synth Expo - Video & Pics

The Brooklyn Synth Expo - The Deli Magazine Presents

Published on Nov 13, 2016 Elevtr Trax

"Soon after 12:00pm yesterday the synth noodling, seasoned connoisseur, and curious gear aficionados poured into Williamsburg's Main Drag Music. This years expo featured the latest and the vintage in product-lines from Moog, Eventide, Prophet, Korg, Native Instruments, and more, allowing the public to get their hands on synths, throw some headphones on, and hear what noises they could make for themselves. I spoke to Shareef Islam, Eastcoast Rep of Native Instruments in our video above...(read full)"

2000s Red Alesis Andromeda 16-Voice Analog Synthesizer

"The Alesis Andromeda is far and away from any other analog synthesizer you've likely played. The designers went bonkers loading up on features:
16 analog voices
Oscillators derived from the Moog Modular 921 Module
Two filters per voice: Moog ladder and Oberheim SEM
Arpeggiator and Sequencer
Looping multi-stage envelopes with user defined curves
Ring Mod, Filter Feedback, and FM capability.
Three LFOs plus Sample-Hold
Built-in digital effects section

And that's just scratching the surface. If you're looking at this you're probably aware of the staggering sonic prowess this instrument is capable. Beginners should be warned - programming this synth is deep and immersive. Andromeda may not be for everyone. You may begin to feel some side effects: sleep deprivation, sudden inexplicable loss of time and missing appointments, difficulty breathing, skipping meals, excitability and rapid heart-rate. If you experience arousal for more than four hours, call your immediate supervisor and request some time off this week.

The red version is functionally identical to the blue versions, a purely cosmetic discussion. However the red face overlay is a limited edition that was manufactured prior to Alesis getting involved with Numark."

Vintage ARP Omni Keyboard Synthesizer Overhauled with Blue LED Sliders SN 24832546

"This synthesizer has just been fully serviced by Synthchaser - recapped, new bushings, LED sliders, fully functional, calibrated, tuned and sounding great. This keyboard is the sound of Joy Division and is all over The Cars' "Moving In Stereo". It produces the lush Solina/String Ensemble sounds plus has a polyphonic synthesizer section with a voltage controlled filter, LFO, and ADSR.

Overall good condition for a 40 year old synthesizer, with some cosmetic issues as visible in the photos (scratches on the paint of the case, etc)

Synthchaser Precision LED slider upgrade. All 15 of the old original sliders have been replaced with new, smooth, high precision LED illuminated sliders. The difference in the way these sliders feel and perform compared to the originals is a huge improvement.
Synthchaser Capacitor Kit installed - 108 polarized capacitors in the synthesizer (not just the power supply) have been replaced to help provide stable operation for years to come.
4075 Filter Enhancement - The voltage controlled filter has been recapped and enhanced to correct an error with the original design which limited the frequency response to about 12kHz.
Keyboard rebuild - New key bushings installed, keys removed and washed, key bed leveled, key contacts cleaned and adjusted
Oscilloscope Calibration - Fully calibrated to factory spec under measurement by oscilloscope
The LEDs are very bright blue. I can change them to a less bright Orange if the buyer would like."

Yocto 808 Analog Drum Machine Synthesizer Roland TR808 Clone

"For sale here is a Yocto 808 analog drum machine. This is probably the most accurate clone out there to having a real Roland TR808, and is quite a rare item to find. I've owned more than a few Roland TR808s and an Acidlab Miami and in my opinion, this Yocto sounds very close in sound to an original TR808 (keep in mind no two TR808s will even sound exactly the same). Really great machine for the value considering it's half the price of going 808s, plus you get modern features like midi, it's a smaller size and isn't worn down or old like vintage ones so you won't have any of the vintage wear and tear. It's in MINT perfect shape & fully functional. The only issue is the cymbal voice is not working. It might be just a simple fix, but I haven't had time to check it out. I've set the price lower accordingly. Otherwise it's working as it should and sounds great. See the pictures below to make sure you like it. Includes power supply. If you can't afford a real 808 or want to deal with hassle of vintage gear, this is the next best thing. Don't miss out!"

AI003 Looping Envelope Generator DIY Synth Module

Published on Nov 13, 2016 AI Synthesis

"A product demo of the aisynthesis.com AI003 Looping Envelope Generator DIY Synthesizer Module"

"The AI003 Looping ADSR Envelope Generator DIY Kit is a looping ADSR Envelope Generator. It can be manually triggered via Momentary Push Button, Gated via the Gate Signal, Triggered or re-triggered by a Trigger input, or set into a loop mode via a toggle switch. An LED shows the status of the output.

This Looping ADSR Envelope Generator DIY Kit circuit was derived (with permission) from the great and simple circuit (only 2 ICs!) from Nicolas on the Electromusic.com forums. With some help from the great Dave Brown, the circuit was updated to provide additional voltage protection, more uniform looping and gate behavior, more precise LED monitoring, and some nice user experience updates.

In Gate or Trigger mode, the envelope can be used as a traditional ADSR envelope generator. In loop mode, the output sends a variable exponential waveshape between Ramp, Triangle, and Sawtooth LFO with control over the attack and decay of the LFO shape.

The modes are dependent on whether or not the gate jack is inserted, and for triggers, the Sustain level – see the chart below. We will be releasing a more traditional ADSR with 'normal' gating functions shortly (but with twice the part count and no AD loop)."
