Ambient Frippertronics Acoustic Guitar with MS-20 Mini

"Episode 3 of the 'Circuits and Strings' series from subtractiveLAD aka: Stephen Hummel.

I wanted to try a Frippertronics-style jam but using an acoustic guitar, instead of the more conventional electric guitar.

My Taylor 310ce is electroacoustic so I am able to patch it directly into my pedalboard, which can be pretty inspiring. I have tuned the Taylor to DADGAD. For this performance I have the guitar running into my Ernie Ball VP Jr, then into the Strymon TimeLine and then into the Walrus Audio Descent reverb pedal. My pedalboard is then patched directly to my Boss RE-20 Space Echo, which is functioning as my tape looper for this jam. The Space Echo is set to a delay time of somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 seconds to achieve the looping effect. During the performance, you will see me shifting the parameters of the Descent with an expression pedal and tweaking the settings on the TimeLine and Space Echo to achieve various spacial effects. I performed an overdub on the Korg MS-20 Mini to add low frequency accents - the synth is also going through the Space Echo but used only as a simple delay. Some additional mixing/subtle processing was done in Reaper."

"Unboxing the OTO Machines BAM space generator reverb unit. There's no talking in this video, just some music processed by BAM.

All the synth parts in the music were recorded with the Native Instruments Monark synth in Ableton Live. The synth bus was then run through the BAM with some light tweaking."

"A short improvisation on my MODULOR114 synth based on a quantizer generated arpeggio. The VCO2 in LFO mode enters the S&H and, through an attenuator and the quantizer, determines the pitch of the VCO1. The clock drives the S&H and the GATE of the envelope. The starting sound is a rectangular wave that gets modulated (you can hear it when I start to turn teh first knob) on the PWM by the envelope. Soon I substitute the squarewave with the triangular, shortening the attack and finally adding resonance for a more percussive quality of the sound. Toward the end everything gets slowed down, the square returns and the echo gets intrusive...
A small nod to the Master Jun'ichiro Tanizaki."

"Here is a quick simple Christmas feel tune we called "Baubles" composed by Markus Fuller and Jason Lee (aka organaut).

we filmed this several times but kept getting the timing wrong as it was fresh out of the head and not written down. but after many attempts we did get a reasonable recording of how the tune should be. Happy christmas and a great new year to you all."
