Cameron Paul Tells All

"Legendary Bay Area DJ / Remixer / Producer Cameron Paul's instructional video."

Another blast from the past. Synth gear comes in at 49:50. This one in via electraumatisme.

Gear spotting: E-Mu SP-1200, Roland SVC-350 Vocoder, Ensoniq Mirage rack, Yamaha DX100, Sequential Circuits Multi-Trak, E-Mu EMAX, Roland JX-8P, and, I believe, a Sequential Circuits TOM.

Cool Cat Synth Pic

This one came in on CONTROL's latest mailer, and was spotted on CatSynth. The image credit goes to Martin Eriksson. I thought this particular shot stood out and deserved a post here as well.

Curious what the black modular in the background is. The aesthetic reminds me of EMW, but I don't recognize it.

Update:

Turns out they are EMW modules:

Bastl Modular Synth + Crystalline iOS + 60 Knobs #TTNM

Published on Mar 2, 2018 The Tuesday Night Machines

"Stereo jam!!! I got a new Audio + MIDI Interface for my iPad so I can finally get that sweet Crystalline Delay & Reverb effect on my Modular Synth sounds. I prefer real knobs instead of a touch screen though, which is why I connected the Bastl 60 Knobs controller to the iPad to control all the effect parameters externally. MORE INFO BELOW!

Let’s Rack Mount MOTHER 32 – Eurorack with Bo

DeltaCepA Stranger Sounds

Published on Mar 1, 2018 Jörg Schaaf

"Stranger Sounds from the Delta Cep A

All the sounds are produced with a single Delta CEP A Synthesizer. I added one external step sequencer and the external sequencer was clocked with an external LFO. I also used a control voltage mixer to mix the modulation signals from the delta.

I added a little bit reverbration from Logic's Chromaverb and had fun to produce some bizarre visuals with the Kaleidoscope function of Final Cut Pro X and old video footage. And no - I did't take anything in to produce this bizarre shit."

Boredbrains in Studio: Patching Eurorack with Little Black Rain Clouds

Published on Mar 2, 2018 Boredbrain Music

"We got together with Damion Champe (aka. Little Black Rain Clouds) to record a musical improvisation with his eurorack modular system, while introducing him to our new custom-designed 3.5mm patch cables. He also showed us his awesome Clone Garden Drum, incorporating it into the jam."

Curious if the Clone Garden is by Folktek or a clone of Folktek's work.

Update: I checked with Folktek and they let me know, the Clone Garden is not theirs.

Five Thoughts For Eurorack Modular

Published on Mar 2, 2018 John L Rice

"While this isn't a demo of the ADDAC214 VC Rotator, all five of these pieces use it in the patch. See patch details below:

Unless otherwise noted the following terms indicate:
ADDAC214 - ADDAC System ADDAC214 VC Rotator sequential switch
VCO - Synth Tech E330 Multimode VCO
EG - Modcan Quad Envelope
VCA - Bubble Sound VCA4p
Voice - VCO+EG+VCA
Mixer - Circuit Abbey Unify + expander
Sequencer - Division6 Mattson SQ816
Clock - Erica Synths Black VC Clock v2
LFO - Erica Synths Black Octasource
E102 - Synth Tech E102 Quad Temporal Shifter
QPQ - Instruo Quad Performance Quantizer
Delay - Mooer Ocean Machine pedal
Reverb - Mooer Ocean Machine and TC Electronic T2 pedals

1) Initial Test 0:00
A typical 4 voice patch I do with this system is to process a CV sequence through the E102 shift register and then through the QPQ to provide CV and gates for the Voices. In this case the ADDAC214 is inserted between the E102 and QPQ so that when clocked at a faster rate the QPQ gets channel updates more often and fires the Voices more often. I'm using a modified Doepfer A-182-1 Switched Multiple + Doepfer A-180-2 Multiple to switch between the different Clock outputs. Delay used was the Synth Tech E580 Resampling Mini Delay.

New Mutable Instruments Plaits Macro-oscillator Eurorack Module

Published on Mar 2, 2018
"A basic look at Plaits macro-oscillator and some of my favourite modes."

via CONTROL

"Plaits is the spiritual successor of Mutable Instruments’ best-selling sound source, Braids. Not just a mkII version: its hardware and software have been redesigned from scratch. Just like its predecessor, it offers direct access to a large palette of easily tweakable sounds, covering the whole gamut of synthesis techniques.

SIMPLICITY FIRST
Gone are the screen, menu system, hidden settings, and the long list of sometimes redundant synthesis models. Thanks to additional CV inputs, and to the use of 3 timbre-shaping parameters per model, Plaits is straightforward to use, and much closer to the ideal of one synthesis technique = one model. What were fragmented islands of sound in Braids are now part of a continuum of sounds.

READY FOR PERCUSSION
Patch a trigger generator or sequencer in Plaits’ trigger input and instantly use the module as a percussive source thanks to its built-in virtual low-pass gate (LPG).
