038//Bells of the Abyss - atmospheric Moog Mother 32 drone with Eventide Space

Published on Sep 1, 2018 Alastair Wilson

"An atmospheric semi-self-generating patch using a small Eurorack setup sent through an Eventide Space Modechoverb reverb and an Eventide Timefactor on tape delay setting.

After a drought of drone-like patches, I turned my reverb mix up to 100% wet and let the bells toll away. This may not be the most complicated of my patches, but it doesn’t need to be to successfully create a deep, unnerving atmosphere.

PATCH NOTES:
The higher M32 supplies the bass drone. It’s a saw wave with a 3 note, randomly reset sequence. The filter cutoff and resonance are randomly modulated, with the cutoff sometimes rising and falling due to the envelope modulation.
The bells come from the lower M32. The sequence is randomly clocked, with the overall tempo getting faster and faster before jumping back to slow, and is occasionally reset. The LFO is running in audio rates to supply FM to the M32 oscillator, and this sound is mixed with the Minimod VCO following the main pitch to give the bell a more tonal quality. The filter cutoff and resonance are randomly modulated.
The wind is white noise from a M32 with its volume modulated by the Minimod DH-ADSR, which is triggered only when both a square LFO and a Maths LFO are high (Veils is being used to give this AND logic gate).
Finally, the reverb is 100% wet.

Behringer Neutron sync modification

Published on Sep 1, 2018 Michael Kukat

"This week, i bought a Behringer Neutron. And i liked it so much that on the same day it arrived, i ordered a second one. The only thing i really didn't like was the oscillator sync, it sounded too "dirty" for my taste. The CEM3340 (or CoolAudio V3340 in this case) can do better.

So i had a closer look inside and decided that i will modify one of my Neutrons to "fix" this sync issue.

This video describes some background, the comparison of the 2 sync mechanisms on the scope and as audio examples, and in the second part a description how to modify it.

Please be aware that this modification is a bit difficult, you should be experienced enough with the soldering iron and have enough time and concentration. Also be aware that modifying your synth will void it's warranty and if you damage it by following my instructions, i will not buy you a new one - do what you do on your own risk! And don't panic if it doesn't work on the first try - i forgot the capacitor in the first try, so the VCO2 was totally blocked - you can see this during the power up calibration where the octave LEDs of the oscillators should flash. If one of them doesn't flash at all, you did something wrong, carefully re-check everything.

Don't ask me why i say 3240 all the time in the video instead of 3340. Maybe it was too early in the morning :)

I hope this is helpful for someone, but please understand that i will not modify your Neutron for you, i'm just a hobbyist with limited spare time. If you can't do it on your own, find someone who can do it for you, this video contains enough information for a routined electronics engineer to perform this modification.

What i forgot to mention in the video - the PNP transistor is a generic small signal PNP type, i used a BC558, i tested with a BC560 before, you can also use the corresponding 2N types, but they have a different pinout, so take care. If you use a BC558 or BC560, you can follow my instructions, for everything else, you need to check the parameters and pinout of the transistor before. BC558 and BC560 have C-B-E when looking at the flat side with the pins facing downwards."

Rare Noistation by Love Hulten For Sale

"I purchased this new and direct from Love Hulten. He is currently hand-crafting (with the help of machines, too) and selling these gorgeous, impeccably designed synths.

My Noistation is as perfect as it was the day it arrived.

I ordered mine in May, received it, in June...and it sat. Then I opened it, set it up, then I put it away - as happens with many things around here. Last week, I took it out, started messing with it, started deep diving with the programming using AXOLOTI, which is the freeware modular object/patch making software you use to make your own patches.

I am no programmer - but it was easy and fun. There are built in tutorials that build in complexity. It’s great. The thing is, I’m selling a lot of my nice things because it takes me months to get around to using them because of the constraints of my work."

See this post for a video and details on the Noistation.

Manther From Another Panther (DFAM + Manther)

Published on Aug 31, 2018 Perfect Circuit Audio

"We paired the Malekko Manther mono-synth with the Moog DFAM on drums for this video. Since both of these synths have built in sequencers you can create a jam by just synching the two together. The Manter has SH-101 style architecture with extra features like a tunable sub oscillator, wave-folder and built in delay effect. The DFAM has two oscillators as well as a noise generator and Moog ladder filter. The DFAM features percussive envelopes and interesting routing options to make many different drum and synth sounds.

You can get the bundle in this video here: https://www.perfectcircuitaudio.com/m..."

OB6: Fri Jam #2 (31 Aug)

Published on Aug 31, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Good to see the patch from earlier was enjoyed :) Here's another little illustration of it, this time using the arpeggiator. Osc 2 tuned a fifth higher, rather than fourths i.e. of the previous video.

Excuse the mess of my fingers! Black from oil. I spent most of the afternoon servicing my bike (new tyres/tubes, general cleaning/adjusting etc). As hard as I've tried, the oil won't budge! It'll fade off in a few days, I'm sure."
