AJH Synth Eurorack Ambient Ditty - revisiting an early recording

Published on Jun 1, 2019 DreamsOfWires

"Re-recording something I originally uploaded featuring a Moog Minitaur with Sunvox on an iPad. It's a very simple piece, but here I've used entirely analog sounds from the AJH eurorack system. The background melody is kind of a pseudo two-part polyphonic voice using two separate VCO's, envelopes, and the Gemini filter in Dual mode. The other part is a third VCO through the Ring SM, providing up to two suboctaves, and then into the Ladder Filter. An external LFO is modulating the pulse width of this VCO. The Keystep's Mod output is patched to the Ladder Filter's frequency. Gear list at the bottom.

I wanted it to sound a little less gnarly than the original, with less resonance, hopefully capturing a little more of the MiniMod's warmth and character. Here's a link to the original: [originally posted here]

My music can be purchased here if you wish to support my music: https://tomorrowthecure.bandcamp.com

Alternatively you can support me on Patreon for as little as $99 a month to help keep me afloat financially so that I can continue this channel: https://www.patreon.com/dreamsofwires

Otherwise, please subscribe for more of the same, and showing my uploads to others would be a great help. Thanks for your support.

Gear used: AJH Synth VCO (x3), dual contour, DH-ADSR, gain switch, VCA (x2), Ring SM, Gemini and Ladder filters. FC Waverunner LFO, Korg SQ-1 (pattern - parallel mode) and Arturia Keystep (melody), recorded into AUM on an iPad via iConnectAUDIO4+ interface, with EOS2 reverb and Dubstation 2 delay. The Eurorack case was made by me and inspired by the Moog Model 15. Filmed on a Lumix GH-4 and iPhone SE, edited in Final Cut X on an elderly Crashbook Pro."

"Here's a very loose jam with a new rig I'm trying to iron out. I swear I'll use the RDX programmer more in the next video :-P

"Another quick demo of sounds from Polyphonic Whale - this time "Space" channel, in 2nd half of the video gradually overlapping with "Decaying Reverb".

No external or software effects added, only cut and mix in AfterFX. This is raw output from the Whale, from one to four layers per segment - to get a better idea what was involved, check this layer diagram: http://gechologic.com/upload/video/Or...

The footage is also without any added effects - output from my camera, focused on a region of outer space ;)"

"This is a rare twelve page (including covers) year 2000 vintage Waldorf Electronics "Enthusiasts Synthesizing Machines" catalog I picked up at the Anaheim NAMM show during the time I was designing synths for another company. I was so impressed with the graphic design that I have kept it in excellent condition since then.

The colors are quite solid and the arc diecut on the the right is quite striking (and I am not ashamed to say I used that style cut in a car audio catalog a couple of years later).

The style and font choices were quite progressive and advanced for the time. The catalog was designed by Alex Hartmann DesignBox which also did the industrial design for the synths... EBay is blocking my link to an interview with him about it, but Alex is interviewed here about his work for Waldorf at synthtopia (dot) com... just google "DesignBox" "Waldorf" and "Alex Hartmann" and you will find it)

For both synth historians, industrial designers and graphic designers this is a part of history you will probably never find for sale again.

In the images in this listing, I am showing only the first few pages in the catalog but the remaining pages are similarly intense and beautiful and also in great condition."
