ROLI Introduces New LUMI Fully Illuminated Keyboard

Published on Jun 18, 2019 ROLI

"We reinvented the keyboard once before at ROLI, creating a revolutionary instrument that’s everywhere from La La Land to the studios of world-renowned artists like RZA, Grimes and Hans Zimmer. Now we’re doing it again, building on years of expertise and innovation in hardware, software, sound design, industrial design, and audio coding."

"LUMI takes music from black and white to technicolor. You can see it the moment you turn on LUMI Keys. The world’s first fully modular, fully illuminated keyboard is different from any other you’ve seen.

COMPOSE AND PRODUCE FASTER WITH LIGHTS :

LUMI Keys and accompanying ROLI Studio Player software speed up your composition. Smart features light up notes in a chord, helping you build chord sequences faster. Or display each note in any scale or arpeggiated sequence. Even skilled players benefit from these shortcuts, which save time and spark ideas.

CREATE A CUSTOMIZED HARDWARE-SOFTWARE SETUP:

LUMI Keys is modular, so you can create your own hardware controller system. Snap multiple LUMI Keys together for a 48 or 72-key keyboard! Connect them to the Seaboard Block, Lightpad Block, and others in the ROLI BLOCKS system.

And even better, LUMI Keys is fully compatible with all leading DAWs and plugins

TAKE IT ANYWHERE FROM STUDIO TO STAGE

LUMI Keys combines playability and power in an ultra-portable design. It weighs less than an iPad Pro, and it fits in a backpack. Even when you connect multiple LUMI Keys together you can easily unsnap them and carry them anywhere.

"This is so much more than a groovebox - it’s a DX 7 in a box! This thing sounds so great - and I happen to think the drum sounds are fabulous as well.

Has worked perfectly ever since I got it. Comes with original manual and original Yamaha power supply. Cosmetically it’s in good shape for its age- really only one scratch on the face as seen in the picture. I’m only selling because I upgraded to the MODX and transferred all my DX200 patches to it and am downsizing my smoke free pet free studio. This is guaranteed not to arrive DOA but with any older piece of gear, no warranty is expressed or implied. Shouldn’t be an issue though - Yamaha builds stuff like tanks!"

"It is a 3 OSC true analog monosynth in a rackmount package with MIDI and CV control. It has a very nice vintage voicing. The filter sounds great, particularly the bandpass, and the built in fuzz and distortion makes this synthesizer go from mellow and smooth to aggressive and in your face. Check out the video for a sample of what it can do."

"Turbo charged Juno 106 with Kiwi Upgrade and Overlay! Here we have a Roland Juno 106 with the fantastic Kiwi upgrade and rare Kiwi Overlay in Excellent condition especially considering the age of this classic. The Kiwi Mod opens up whole new sonic territories to what is already a much loved synthesizer.

The Kiwi mod brings much welcomed features such as an Arpeggiator, Sequencer, a second Envelope, expanded preset Memory, Software Editor, and more. This Juno has been kept in great condition with only a couple minor scuffs here and there. Most notable would be a scratch in the Overlay under the "Kiwi-106" logo and a very tiny knick in the Overlay above the "KYBD" slider. There are some small scuffs on the underside. Please see the pictures for reference to decide if this beauty is for you. In my honest opinion these are minor and the overall condition of this synth is truly Excellent.

The previous owner had this recently serviced by This Old Synth so it is ready to rock and roll. Yes, the voice chips have been serviced and are free of the dreaded plastic coating. The sliders are smooth with zero unwanted noise. All buttons work on the first try with no issues. The Chorus sounds pristine without the unwanted hiss commonly found in these chips.

This is an absolutely wonderful specimen in fantastic shape both sonically and cosmetically. The Kiwi is truly an upgrade breathing new life and attitude into the Juno 106. A hybrid masterpiece of Vintage Sonics + Modern Features make this stunning instrument one of my all time favorites!"

OMEGA 8 Analog, Polyphonic Synthesizer by Studio Electronics *SOUND DEMO* 1

Published on Jun 18, 2019 Mikael Johnston

"Playing through some of the presets on my analog, polyphonic, "Omega 8" synthesizer by Studio Electronics, which is similar to the SE Code 8. In spite of it being used by artists such as Daft Punk, Depeche Mode & Dr. Dre it's relatively unknown. This synth is a beast!

This was recorded with a little external reverb and delay but other than that the sounds are stock presets."

I was curious if Mikael Johnston had been featured on the site before. Turns out he was featured in this 2014 post: Tom Oberheim Demonstrates the Two-Voice Synth.
