Instruō Introduces dàil Eurorack Module

video upload by Instruō

The Instruō dàil is a high resolution quantiser, precision adder, MIDI-to-CV interface, and USB MIDI Host with a very small form factor suitable for any system.

As a quantiser, scales can be defined locally as well as externally via MIDI. The USB Host port will accept and power class compliant devices offering convenience and immediacy to melodies and sequences.

As a precision adder, existing signals can be offset by any defined chromatic interval. Transpose anything with accuracy using the calibrated buffered throughput which runs parallel to the quantiser engine. This feature alone makes for a great companion to any sequencer or 1V/octave source within a system.

No longer is a single repeating octave of quantised notes a limitation. dàil features a fully bipolar quantiser engine through which any multi-octave spanning scale/chord/arpeggio can be engaged immediately from your MIDI keyboard. Patterns can also be programmed onboard with precision with the ability to auto fill from a wide range of major and minor starting points.

Small form factor, big feature set!

dàil will suit any scale of system adding flexibility and immediacy to your melodic needs.

MakeNoise PrssPnt & Channel Saver | First Patch

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"When MakeNoise announced the two little utility modules I couldn't help wondering why.

Channel Saver is like the two center Maths channels which most of us already have in our case. But it's also remarkably close to a Buchla 257 voltage math because of the crossfader. Unfortunately it doesn't have a CV to crossfade, which X-PAN has. It's a nice utility on its own, and a welcome patch buddy for Maths when it's doing 22 more important things. It all sounds like no big deal, but the combo can do amazing things once you start patching. A new module will exponentially expand your options.

PrssPnt is a no-brainer imho. Pressure Points was the go-to module for adding human interaction, but it was also the module that always had to go in favor for more important utilities. The video claims it's discontinued, but it's not. It's still available and in stock. The Brains expander, however, is officially in the discontinued list. Regardless, there's always room for the 4HP PrssPnt and even a tiny bit of human touch can do wonders. You'll be the clock, the expression and the source of uncertainty. I should have used that line in the video. But I bet you'll see it in a next Shared System X episode.

In this first-patch video, I removed Maths and Tempi, so no clocks or envelopes. I had to move the case around by touch and creativity. Working with limitations isn't just a fun challenge, it also makes room to really listen what your VCO's are capable of. I thought I knew the DPO, but it seems I only scratched the surface."

Madrona Labs Announces Sumu Early Access Release

Press release follows. You can find demos of Sumu in previous posts here.

Presenting the Sumu Early Access release.
If you’ve been following our news at all, you know what a big deal this is. From my first ideas about Sumu in 2018, to my decision to write a whole new plugin framework, to working with a new crew of beta testers, this one has been a long time in coming. If you’d had a baby when I first previewed Sumu, that preschooler would be about old enough now to say “When is Sumu coming?” Or as Mozzer once asked, “How Soon is Now?” We have the answer now, and it's now.

In case you’re just joining us, Sumu is an additive + FM resynthesizer with vector field spatialization. Each voice has 128 oscillators arranged as 64 FM pairs and each pair can be positioned independently in space. It’s all controlled with a familiar Madrona patcher, but this time with 64 channels in each patch cord.

Sumu’s full price will be $179. For a limited time, we are offering it for $129, in thanks for your early support. Purchasing now gets you the Early Access version right away, and gives you a perpetual license for the 1.0 version coming soon and any future 1.x versions. We have been beta testing Sumu for over four months, and are happy to say it’s a stable piece of software. And just like our other instruments, you can try the demo before purchasing. So we think it’s a win-win.

The new Sumu product page has more info, and the downloads you’re looking for.

Bundle of wonders.
Along with Sumu’s rollout we also added a bundle deal to the website. If Sumu is your first plugin, and you’ve looked longingly into each other’s eyes, and slowly smiled, and somehow you just know it won’t be your last, definitely check out our Studio Bundle. It’s everything we make for one deeply discounted price.

And if you’re a long-time customer who has yet to round our your collection, we figured out how to bring you along for the ride. Add the bundle to your cart and a discount will be applied at checkout for each license you already have.

Superbooth24: Groove Synthesis Debuts Sampling for 3rd Wave Synth

See the demo here.

Press release follows (image via the release):

Orinda, CA, May 15, 2024 — California-based electronic instrument maker Groove Synthesis today announced that they have added high-resolution sampling capability to their critically acclaimed Advanced Wavetable Synthesizer, the 3rd Wave.

This much-requested new feature allows owners to sample up to 30 seconds of 16-bit, 48 kHz, monophonic audio into the synth directly or by importing audio over USB, and use it as a new oscillator type alongside the 3rd Wave’s powerful wavetable and virtual analog sound engines. This significantly expands the sound palette of the synthesizer. Now owners can create custom sounds that feature sampled acoustic instruments, sound effects, and other sources.

The company will preview a new OS that provides this capability at the Superbooth24 music expo in Berlin, Germany from May 16-18 at booth #0246. The upgrade will be available free of charge to 3rd Wave owners as a download from the company’s website upon official release.

“As fans of the original PPG and its ultra-rare Waveterm sampling option, we thought it would

be exciting to add that capability to the 3rd Wave’s existing architecture — if it was technically possible,” said Groove Synthesis founder Bob Coover. “It took some tricky programming, but we did it and we think 3rd Wave owners are going to love it. It’s a dream come true for everyone who wanted the full PPG-plus-Waveterm experience, and now it’s within reach.”

While the 3rd Wave has roots in the classic digital wavetable synths of the past, it takes the concept firmly into the 21st century with a lush, expansive sound that’s a product of its expanded wavetables and analog filters. It’s hybrid design features 24-voices and 4-part multi-timbral operation, which is the equivalent of having four independent 6-voice synthesizers controlled by a single keyboard. Each of its three oscillators per voice can generate a classic PPG-era wavetable, a modern high-resolution wavetable, an analog modeled waveform — and now multi-sampled audio. With its industry-first WavemakerTM tool, users can create custom wavetables in a single step through proprietary sample-to-wave technology, allowing almost unlimited sound sculpting opportunities.
