Hexinverter May Close Shop in 2023 Due to Global Supply Chain Issues

via Hexinverter

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to share with you an important update about Hexinverter’s stock situation and future plans.

//////////////////////////////////////

I think we can all agree that it’s been a weird couple of years on Earth for just about everyone. There has been a great reshuffling of many people’s lives, their professions – and the resources we rely on in our modern world to get things built. The manufacturing world has been very hard hit as a result. Small scale electronics, especially so. It has been incredibly difficult to keep up with demand for our modules, with products falling out of stock for months (and now years) at a time.

Unfortunately, the post-pandemic manufacturing climate was the final nail in the coffin for us at Hexinverter. Today we are announcing our intent to close down operations within the next year. I do not have an exact “end date” to share just yet, but I can tell you that it will probably be sometime in 2023.

We are now shipping out a number of modules that have been out of stock for ages, including the Mutant Brain! Be sure to hit up your local dealer or the direct shop if you’ve been waiting on some fresh Mutants for your rack, as these are the final runs of these products that will be built. Once they’re gone, they’re gone! We will begin the long process of closing up shop sometime in the new year once supplies are entirely diminished.

The past decade has been a wild ride for Hexinverter and everyone involved. It blows my mind when I look back at everything we’ve done! Our early days, with all of the DIY projects and later, going all in on riding the eurorack modular wave. Of course we can’t forget all of the cats and squeaky chickens.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being a patron and believing in our vision! The people we’ve met and relationships we’ve made along the way have been the best part of this entire experience, and I can’t thank you enough for being part of our journey.

I’m not sure any of us back in the day saw the eurorack industry growing into what it is today, and I could not be more proud of the little, rubber-chicken-shaped corner we have managed to carve out in its history.

It’s been a tonne of fun, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have had the privilege of being a part of, and the opportunity to contribute to the world of modular synthesis.

So long and thanks for all the chickens!

What does it mean for our products?

There will be no more Mindphaser complex oscillators produced.
Parts have been unobtanium for them since the first run was in progress. If you got one of the 250 units shipped from the first batch, consider yourself lucky!

We are receiving all of our other inventory in progress (which all components are already secured for) – the Mutant Brain, Hot Glue, Mutant Machine, BD9, Snare, Bassdrum, Galilean Moons, Red Dragon, Hihats, Claps and everything else – and will be actively shipping out to dealers and through our Direct Shop – until supplies are all sold out. If you’ve been holding off, now is the time, because we have very limited numbers of everything left (only double digits of every module).

Support efforts will continue on as long as it can, and we will announce a date of its eventual closure in the future, giving a lot of heads up before that happens.

The Mutant Brain Surgery configuration webpage will live on in one way or another, along with all the other supporting media (user manuals, etc.) for our products.

See the Global Chip Shortage label below for more.

Modular Dungeon Techno

Published on Feb 23, 2019 Hexinverter Électronique

"T-t-t-t-techno! Just another dungeon jam.

Jupiter storm through the WMD aperture filter (which is awesome btw). Mutant bass drum through Red Dragon filter. MI Elements. And I put the Eventide Space Reverb on the Mutant Hot Glue send and return. I hadn't thought of using external pedals in the modular signal chain like this but it works great."

Psytrance Eurorack Experiments #2 - Hexinverter Modular Dungeon Jams

Published on Oct 30, 2018 Hexinverter Électronique

"I've been having a lot of fun lately trying out different psy processes on the eurorack modular synth! Here's my latest jam. Some 142bpm stuff. Hope you enjoy! I went a little more minimal with the grid on this one and went a little more wild with the noodling on the delay and feedback.

Some patch notes:
- Bassdrum: Mutant BD9 - http://www.hexinverter.net/mutant-bd9
- Bass is a simple sawtooth with some phase adjustment which is phase locked using hard oscillator sync. The punch/attack is due to overdriving the Red Dragon's analog filter core - it really bites in this way! http://www.hexinverter.net/red-dragon
- Mutant Hihats are providing both open and closed hihats
- Everything is sequenced from a Digitakt over MIDI, through the Mutant Brain! http://www.hexinverter.net/mutant-brain"

Psychedelic Eurorack Experiments #1 - Hexinverter Modular Dungeon Jams

Published on Oct 23, 2018 Hexinverter Électronique

"Some 142bpm psy experiments in the Hexinverter Électronique modular dungeon! Using Mutant Brain + Digitakt for modular control is a great combo!

Red Dragon is providing the punchy cutoff for the snappy bassline. The built in filter core overdrive is pushed to the max to get a good attack for some psy-like bass sounds! The morphing filter pole is slammed to 24dB/oct in this patch. Mutant BD9, Snare and Clap are used here, along with the Hot Glue."

Mutant Modular MM004 - Pheek

Published on Oct 30, 2017 Hexinverter Électronique

"Mutant Modular #4 is from long-time Montreal techno luminary Jean-Patrice Remillard, AKA Pheek. Jean-Patrice has been exploring electronic music since the early 1990s and has been a key player in Montreal’s minimal scene from its very inception. From his early work with Mateo Murphy (Mutant Modular mm002) on Montreal-based label Hautec recordings, to releases on Richie Hawtin's M_nus imprint, France's Telegraph, Denmark's Tic Tac Toe and Germany's Contexterrior, Pheek has developed an unmistakable sound – textural and spatial with a cerebral, experimental soul, and at least one foot always on the dance floor."

Modular Synth Live Jam, with live looping.

Published on Jan 26, 2017 LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"First live session of the year. using a vegetable Oil can to set the pace. and just a whole lot of modular. and pitched vocals.

Recording is on soundcloud :- https://soundcloud.com/lookmumnocompu...

Vegetable tin goes into a very dodgy looper I'm working on, more info to come. what you see is the extent of its functions though, and it only works in that tempo, for now. juno 106, has max release and is going into a VCA controlled by modular stuff, the sequence was pre programmed before i filmed, so it was a case of increasing the length half way through to open up the rest of the bass riff.

Lots of Arduino's involved. for sequencing modules, arduino nanos to be precise.
Drums are Hexinverter Électronique Mutant drums. except for the clap which is a sample on a SparkFun Electronics, Inc. Wav Trigger. VCO's are jurgen hailble's living VCO's, going into an ms20 style filter, schematic can be found by ian fritz. loads of other stuff..... testing out a panning module i made too which is more of just a switching module.

Yamaha CS10. Vocals going into a Roland vocal transformer then into a Boss Effects Pedals DS-1."

MUTANT RIMSHOT - NAMM2017 first look - Hexinverter Électronique

Published on Jan 18, 2017 Hexinverter Électronique

"First video look at the upcoming Mutant Rimshot eurorack module from Hexinverter Électronique. Come see it at NAMM2017!

The Rimshot is an analog rimshot and clave percussion synthesis module inspired by analog drum machines of the past. Like the other Mutant Drums, the Rimshot is capable of going above and beyond vanilla sounds. Expressive CV options, an external input and a multi-mode analog filter let you create unique percussion sounds in your modular synthesizer.

Available at modular retailers Feb/March 2017!"

"The Mutant Rimshot is an analog rimshot and clave percussion synthesis module inspired by analog drum machines of the past. Like the other Mutant Drums, the Rimshot is capable of going above and beyond vanilla sounds. Expressive CV options, an external input and a multi-mode analog filter let you create unique percussion sounds in your modular synthesizer.

Rimshot or clave - take your pick.

Triple-oscillator analog rimshot core inspired by the legendary 909
- Three modes of percussion synthesis: rimshot HI (classic), rimshot LO and clave (CLV)
- Voltage control of one of the oscillators' pitch
- External input to the filter lets you blend in other signal sources - wavetables and noise make for interesting percussion!
- Rimshot DRIVE control acts as a volume and overdrive control for the rimshot generator

Coupled to an analog multi-mode filter
- Bandpass, highpass and lowpass modes
- Self-oscillation of the filter plays nicely when mixed in with the rimshot generator
- Resonance clipping enabled by default. Feature can be disabled with a switch on the back of the module
- Voltage controlled cutoff
- Adjustable resonance

Modulation options sculpt the shape of your percussion
- Eurorack-compatible control voltage inputs (0 to 5V for full modulation) with bipolar attenuverters
- A practical analog trigger circuit allows activation of the Rimshot from many signal sources (anything with a positive-going edge lasting 2ms or longer). Most electronic drum pads can also directly trigger the Mutant Rimshot.
- An accent input accepts analog voltage control (0 to 5V will fully modulate the volume from low to high)"

Modular Minutes: Qu-Bit Electronix Rhythm Example

Published on Nov 18, 2016 Analogue Zone Showroom / Synths and Studio

"We thought it would work well, and it does! The Qu-Bit Electronix - Rhythm is a pattern generator that will put your mind at ease with its plenty of pattern banks and rhythmic variations on all 4 channels. A pretty neat thing to use live! Setting up our favourite durm voices from Tiptop Audio and Hexinverter Électronique, including the new BD9 - all sent to the Hexinverter Mutant Hot Glue for some pretty cool built-in compression! Yes, one percussion sound was actually generated by the really beautiful Evolution filter from Rossum Electro Music! If you have one filter, you already have a percussion module..."

Hexinverter Introduces the MUTANT SNARE

"Introducing the Hexinverter Électronique MUTANT SNARE!

This newest module in the Mutant Drum series brings dynamic snare drum synthesis to the eurorack format, with plenty of modulation and sound-sculpting capabilities to make it at home in the contemporary modular system.

Available from eurorack dealers all around the world this fall!

Stay tuned for video demos. For now, here are some audio demos created by our pal Dr. Snarold [above]

////MODULE DESCRIPTION////

From classic electro snares to warping, alien percussion, the Mutant Snare is a feature-rich departure from the static sounds of the 808!

=MIX and DRIVE=
• MIX lets you blend between the SHELL and SNAPPY tones that make up the overall snare drum
• turn up the DRIVE to get overdriven snare tones with intense harmonics. The purple LED indicates when the snare begins to overdrive
• like the other Mutant Drums, signal levels have been normalized for modular level input and output (up to 20Vpp)

=SHELL synthesizes the drum skins=
• analog bridged-t sinewave oscillators, for those organic-sounding tones we've come to love from the 808
• TONE control blends between the two sinewaves of different frequency
• SHELL PITCH lets you tune one of the sine waves, to change the pitch of your snare drum

=SNAPPY adds some noise to the snare=
• an analog white noise generator feeds the SNAPPY circuit
• an external input lets you patch any sound source you like into the SNAPPY generator
• voltage control of SNAPPY decay
• SNAPPY feeds into an analog selectable high-pass or band-pass filter
• voltage control of filter cutoff frequency
• when nothing is plugged into the cutoff CV input, the SNAPPY envelope OR the adjustable sinewave from the SHELL generator normalize through the CV attenuverter for cutoff CV. A jumper on the back of the module allows you to select which of these internal modulation signals are routed here
• filter has three resonance settings: classic 808 (low resonance), high resonance, and self oscillation
• bipolar attenuators (aka: 'attenuverters') on CV inputs"

Not seeing an image of the actual module on http://www.hexinverter.net/mutant-drums/ yet.
