New Aphex Twin Cheetah EP a Nod to the Cheetah MS800

How's that for pretty cool. The wording follows and matches the Cheetah MS800 manual. You can see an image of one here (there are only a handful of references to the MS800 on the site). This is one rare synth.

"I found a speech synthesis chip for the BBC Micro, so I had to try it out! :L This is just running the demo program. The chip was a Cheetah 'Sweet Talker' extension pack. Sorry about the poor visuals; I would have re-recorded it but the power supply blew up shortly after this video.

For any of my subscribers wondering about the lack of Tiny Tim updates, an awful lot has been happening on the design side of things, and I'm doing regular updates on the website (http://www.northdownfarm.co.uk/rory/tim/). However as not much more has been done on the hardware side, there hasn't been anything to film yet. I will hopefully get a new vid up about memory in the next to weeks."

Original post updated. My mistake, the promo flyer text was based off of the Cheetah MS800, not the MS6. The MS800 is one rare synth.

Note the listing states, "Aphex Twin made a whole record with this monster (not this exact unit, of course), which has the much-prized Curtis analog oscillator voice and filter chips."

I believe that was the MS800. It was actually listed for sale in August of 2016.

"These are rather rare. Similar to the Oberheim Matrix1000 the MS-6 differs in sound and function quite a bit. 6 part multi timbrel means you can make it perform 6 different mono synths much like the Sequential SixTrak. Cheetah synthesizers recently got a light shed on them thanks to Aphex Twin in a recent album entitled 'Cheetah'. [note that synth was Cheetah's MS800]

This synth was recently serviced, nee internal battery, new MAAD firmware installed (google search it and you’ll find the page with upgrade info) which drastically expands its CC controllability for easier editing and fixes some known bugs.

Like most of the cheetah rack synths they suffered from poor paint quality and has a little bit of rust here and there. Doesn’t effect the synths performance/functionality."

Keytek CTS-2000 Cross Wave examples

"Here are several examples of single oscillator waveform crossfades. The Keytek CTS-2000 can crossfade between 3 waveforms per oscillator, with a 2 stage envelope (two times and an intermediate breakpoint) for each crossfade. The IC responsible for this is the SGS M114S, which was also used in the Cheetah MS800, Amstrad CKX100 and Solton K160, as well as the other Keytek models (CTS-1000G, CTS-400, CTS-5000) and some obscure pinball machines.

Keytek CTS-2000 (Inoyama Land - Shuffer)

"Arrangement of Shuffer by Inoyama Land, using multitracked Keytek CTS-2000 (rare wavetable synth, now sold). I had modified it some to make the sound brighter. Reverb added in Pure Data (my own algorithm). I just played along to the original rather than use a click track or sequencer. It came out a little messy, but I think it suits the composition. Recorded 2011.

"Dirty, gritty, grungy sounding 8-bit companded digital wavetable synthesis makes for cutting sounds that can be made to evolve a la ppg etc. Bell type waves are great in particular. Lots of aliasing going on coupled with the complete lack of any kind of filter or tone control gives this synth a particular bite"
