Microbe Modular Meta Sequencer - song mode (transposition patterns)

Published on Dec 14, 2014 clone45a6

"Demonstration of the new 'song mode'. Song mode is going to contain a large number of preset transposition patterns that can be applied to the sequencer. Sorry, but we won't be adding a separate transpose input due to panel/cost limitations. Consider a Doepfer A-185-2 for more control.

This patch consists of a LFO going to clock input, the Meta Sequencer, and the Piston Honda. Lots of the Meta Sequencer advanced features are being used. (Some video lag at the beginning. Any audio hiccups are due to the video, not the module.)"

"This video is about ARP 2600 several different settings and different functions within the ARP 2600 sound spectrum"

via this auction

"The ARP 2600 is a semi-modular analog subtractive audio synthesizer, designed by Alan R. Pearlman with Dennis Colin, and manufactured by his company, ARP Instruments, Inc. as the follow-on version of the. Unlike other modular systems of the time, which required modules to be purchased individually and wired by the user, the 2600 was semi-modular with a fixed selection of basic synthesizer components internally pre-wired. The 2600 was thus ideal for musicians new to synthesis, due to its ability to be operated either with or without patch cords, and was, upon its initial release, heavily marketed to high schools, universities, and other educational facilities

2601 v3.0: Late in 1980, a final revision was released with un-potted submodules, making them easier to maintain, and a revised suitcase. However these late models are quite rare as their release coincided with ARP's final days."

Metasonix R-54 MkII VCO/VCF

via this auction

"Metasonix R-54 MkII VCO/VCF Eurorack Synthesizer Module. In great condition with no problems. Includes Box & Cable.

Welcome to the strange new world. The R-54 is the most radical, revolutionary module we've ever made. It will change the way you do music synthesis. There has never been an electronic-music product like this before. Even the oddest things that Buchla And Associates or Serge Modular ever made are prosaic and dull compared to the R-54.

It uses a triode-pentode in a unique Wien-bridge circuit, to provide clean sine-wave oscillation. Using a Vactrol, the pitch of the R-54 is sweepable from less than 20 Hz to more than 5 kHz, continuously, via front-panel control or a CV input. By adjusting the waveshape/resonance control, the sinewave signal produced by the R-54 can be trimmed to less than 10% THD (depending on operating pitch)---with NONE of the problems inherent in solid-state oscillators and sine waveshapers. Because the Wien bridge contains no piecewise sine shaper or amplitude-control circuit or component. The tube itself performs that job. So the distortion products are entirely low-order, unlike the "sine waves" that solid-state VCOs or samplers produce.

Turn up the overdrive control, and the oscillator output clips the output amplifier pentode tube, for a unique soft-clipped square-wave sound. The simplicity of the R-54 will fool you--its behavior is odd and radical, and it will take you months or years to fully explore all of its quirks.

Now for the special trick. Plug an audio signal into the audio input. Instantly, the R-54 transforms from a VCO into a bandpass resonant voltage-controlled filter, with the same range as in VCO operation -- 20 Hz to 5 kHz. Its behavior and sound are unique. Again, you will be kept busy for years exploring all of its strangeness.

And now, it's got two new tricks. A VCA CV input allows you to control the output level of the R-54 as well as the amount of clipping in the output tube. Plus, a HARSH switch introduces a feedback loop into the CV control. Turn up the output level and the R-54 does very strange things.

CV response: Hz/v. Use a suitable MIDI/CV interface, or use our R-60 interface to obtain perfect equal-tempered tuning every time. Maximum output signal, 12 v p-p. Power requirement: +-12v dc, approx 150 mA. (All specifications are approximate and may vary from sample to sample.) Tubes used: 19KG8, 6AK5."

"There are many different ways to use this machine but this is my favourite- I hook it up to my synth via the CV and Gate, I then slave my TR-606/TR-808/TR-707 and CR-78 to it. This way I can write different rhythmic trigger patterns on the drum machine and move between the four melodic patterns on the CSQ-600. This gets even better when you have say - 7 triggers per bar but only 5 notes loaded into one of the CSQ-600's banks. You can hear this technique in Mr Fingers' track Waterfall. The CSQ-600 has four melody banks that can be switched on the fly, or chained together."

WII module for the LittleBits system

WII module for the LittleBits system from minigorille on Vimeo.

littleBits synth kits on eBay

"The WII BIT is a very simple but powerful module, it allowed to connect to a Wii Nunchuck and as 4 outputs.

The WII Nunchuck as 4 sensors :

- XY Joystick
- XY Accelerometer
- Z & C two press buttons

The WII BIT module outputs :
X & Y outputs - Pulse Width Modulation, great to fade an LED or other Output module. Pair really well with an Oscillator !

Z & C outputs - High or Low ( 5 or 0v)

By default XY output values from the Joystick.
If you press C, XY output values from the accelerometer.

The Wii Nunchuck connect directly on the WII BIT module without having to cut or hack the WII connector.

The WII BIT is built around an Atmega 328, Ive use through hole soldering for easier prototyping but it could very easily be made with Surface Mount Component for a clean look.

This module is a working prototype and will be submitted to the Bitlab, it is not an official LittleBits module."

Arturia Origin Synthesizer

via this auction

"Origin Keyboard is Arturia’s new version of Origin for the keyboard player. It keeps the outstanding modular system of Origin Desktop, putting it on a panel that closes on a high quality keyboard controller. The intuitive interface is kept in place, along with all of the modules from the most famous synthesizers (Moog Modular, ARP 2600, CS-80, Jupiter-8, Minimoog, Oberheim SEM, Prophet 5 and Prophet VS) and organs (Tonewheel, Rotary). The integration of the ribbon control is a blast, the keyboard aftertouch possibilities open a world of expressivity, while the playing modes are tuned to the expectations of any demanding performer.

Origin Keyboard is made for sound creators and players, musicians who are in the studio as much as they are on stage. It is a complete rock-solid mobile solution, offering everything you need to perform your sounds in a single, easily transportable cabinet. The structure of Origin Keyboard is the same as Origin Desktop: a modular multi- synth creation device for the widest variety of sounds possible, a set of pre-configured synthesizer templates, TAE® (True Analog Emulation) for that warm and authentic analog sound and onboard DSP processing for maximum power.

The power at your fingertips

But now, play a premium quality lightweight keyboard with 61 keys, velocity response and Duophonic Aftertouch. Then use the joystick, the ribbon controller and the numerous controllers on the interface. Set the inclination of the front panel, whether you want to sit down or stand up when playing. Finally close this panel and you are good to go to the next stage or the next studio session. Origin Keyboard is an invitation to a unique playing experience.

The keys, all the functions, sliders, knobs, bender, MIDI, outs, switches, buttons, banks, everything works on this synth. It was serviced with a new battery, voice board cleaning and mounting service, new key bushings, and a lighted bender.

The wooden sides are Brazilian Mahogany with the original metric thread so if you want to go back to plastic one day, the holes have not been enlarged."

Suit & Tie Guy Envelope Generator Update

Published on Dec 14, 2014 suitandtieguy's channel

"Here's some quick cellphone audio and video of the latest Envelope Generator firmware build. I'm very excited about this so forgive the poor quality of this recording.

The scope is showing both outputs (yes this EG has two outputs) and you're hearing the upper output. It's running in LFO mode and I'm basically just diddling the knobs for quick demonstration. A more elaborate demonstration will follow.

We start with the Trapezoid model, then to the Pyramid Blaster (ADSAR on output A and reverse ADSR on output B) model, then to the ADSR model.

Note that Trapezoid and Pyramid Blaster are linear envelopes, but ADSR is log with an half-log attack stage to mimic the Moog 911 circuitry."
