Casio CZ101 Backlit LCD Mod

via The Voice of Saturn

"I replaced the former with a new backlit LCD from Sparkfun. They're cheap and come in a few different colors and being able to see the screen in the dark is totally key. The mod is super easy, just one note - the pads for the backlight power just need to be connected to the LCD power, and the rest of the wires go in the same order as the old display but the pads themselves will be on the other side of the board"

Voice of Saturn Synth II Prototype

Voice of Saturn Synth II Prototype from Travis Thatcher on Vimeo.

"I've implemented 3 of the possible 6 oscillators on this one (though the old sequencer case I used will hold 5). The circuit is based around a schmitt trigger oscillator. Super simple, and easy to make a lot of them. Sorry for the horrible video quality. Just finished it and wanted to get a quick demo done. Hopefully circuitboards will be tested and available sometime this summer. I will likely do a Kickstarter campaign to fund the first run. Keep an eye out!"

diy 4 dummies by white noise

Check it out here.

snip from the intro post:
"This is the first column of what hopefully will become a series about the ins and outs of Synth Do-It-Yourself. I haven’t decided yet on the exact format, but Synth DIY is something I like to do personally. In the past I received several mails and messages from people asking me what to do or choose I thought this column would be a good place to share information, tips, tricks and thoughts.

There are a few simple thoughts about and ‘rules’ from the Synth DIY scene to let you decide whether you should try it."

recompas The Shrine of Native Rites for Electric Winter @ Eyebeam 12.11.10

Live EMS Synthi and Voice of Saturn

Latest tracks by recompas

"The performance took place in an installation where the audience consisted of 6 people, each with a set of headphones. They sat inside a space somewhat inspired by native american teepee's and other native structures that was meant to inspire a calm state of meditation or induce a dreamlike state with the materials used in construction and the video being projected on the cieling part. The recordings are of 6 separate performances."

VOICE OF SATURN DUAL OSCILLATOR SYNTHESIZER

via this auction

"This is a clean custom assembled, tested, and working dual oscillator synthesizer from the folks at VOICE OF SATURN. Has two CV inputs and one Synth + one LFO output. Has two LFO modes, LFO depth, and LFO rate knobs. Both oscillators have pitch knobs and range knob. You can choose between one or both oscillators running simultaneously. Amazing noise device!!!

Loosely based on the Atari Punk Console with some custom tweaks and an LFO front end, this box makes a ridiculous amount of different sounds, all from three 555s."

lil chud cvm modular from blake helton on Vimeo.

"This is my first stab at posting a vid - here's my new Lil CHUD CVM synth masterminded by Travis Thatcher (Voice of Saturn wizard/aka recompas). I messed up and only captured the right audio channel. I'll git this vidjio thing down.

This custom modular consists of a MFOS VCO, Buchla Lopass Gate clone, 2 modified Voice of Saturn modulators & CEM-based VoS VCF. Banana plugs. Knobz. What else do you need? A keyboard (get outta here)!"
