HAINBACH Built An Early Electronic Music Studio In His Basement

video upload by HAINBACH

"Inspired by German experimental music studios like the WDR and SWR, I build Studio B (B for basement). It is a creative playground for my "Schlaufenzeit" setup, and I am working on a live show and album there. In this video I go into details on the gear and thought process behind its, how I put everything together and the big challenge using the cellar poses. I hope this video inspires in your own music studio setup, be it big or small, or 100% DAW.

HAINBACH / TODD BARTON Split Vinyl LP

video upload by Todd Barton

"Ultraviolet Light is proud to announce a split vinyl LP featuring three new tracks of exploratory music apiece by innovative electronic musicians Todd Barton and Hainbach.

Four decades into making music in conversation with modern classical, jazz, poetry, ancient music, new age, and the avant-garde, Todd Barton continues to craft sounds that know no boundaries. Berlin-based Hainbach’s side conjures a pulsing and immersive electronic landscape very much in conversation with Barton’s spacious and unfettered compositions. Taken as a whole, the album relocates us into a cerebral yet viscerally affecting cinema of orchestrated chaos and near-future noise.

This release continues Ultraviolet Light’s unique relationship with both artists. Todd Barton curated the artists featured on the label’s sold-old Buchla Now cassette; Barton and Hainbach’s first pairing was on a 2019 Ultraviolet Light split cassette.

The Hainbach and Todd Barton split vinyl LP will be limited to 300 copies.

Video created by Pam Anderson whose work can be explored here: instagram.com/windcruel."

AudioThing Dials - The Massive Sound Of Vintage Test Equipment

video upload by HAINBACH

"You all have been asking me about making a test equipment based filter plugin, and now its here! Together with @AudioThing I developed DIALS, an experimental channel strip. Based on a classic American passive band-pass filter and a modified German broadcast transmitter, DIALS brings you the massive sound of test equipment music in plugin form. Whether you want to mangle signals in broad strokes or finely sift through frequencies, DIALS has you covered. If you desire to tread further, it becomes an instrument unlike anything else.

"Take a trip to the outer reaches of music production with the Hainbach Bundle. LoFi radiations from a Cold War wire recorder, the rotating madness of the Radiophonic Workshop, metallic resonances from 1930s France, Stockhausen-esque feedbacks, or a trip through Noise in all its forms, the Hainpack is as steeped in history as its full of modern music tools."

Playing Live With The Dream Collection At Willem Twee

video upload by HAINBACH

"After my first visit at Willem Twee Studios in Den Bosch I knew I had to come back. And I did, this time for a live gig at the Toonzaal. Rikkert had the idea I had secretly hoped for - to involve the studio in the live show. So I setup a patch, to which Hans Kulk and Rikkert Book added beautiful tape processing and effects. Additional concert footage by Joline LeRovan.

Early Electronic Music Techniques Explained #superbooth22

video upload by HAINBACH

"I was asked by Goethe Institut Tokyo and Gebrüder Teichmann to do a talk on early electronic music techniques, with a special focus on Stockhausen and the WDR. I had no idea how I could present the results of my research in a fun way until the morning it was due, when a friend asked me to connect the dots of what I was doing. What a better way then to create a piece, like I do on my channel anyway? Using techniques by Stockhausen and others at the WDR Studio, I assembled a piece with audience help in an 'Against The Clock' fashion.
I held this talk at Superbooth22, thanks to everyone at the stage, sound, light and film crew for making this recording.

Turning A Turntable Into A Sampler

video upload by HAINBACH

"When I first heard of the existence of the rare MIDI controlled turntables VESTAX made, the super rare Controller One namely, I was amazed. A turntable that can can be played with a keyboard? I went on a search for a cheaper alternative to the rare and expensive Controller 1 (6000EUR, only 100-110 made), which luckily worked out. While the turntable was en route from Japan, I commissioned http://darkroom.lt to make dubplates for me. On these special one-off vinyl records I had put sounds I created in my studio that I thought would work well in a track together. I had no idea if it would all work out, and the result surprised me."

The Strangest Mellotron Library Ever?

video upload by HAINBACH

"I love the Mellotron. Playing this 1960s tape sampler for the first time 15 years ago was mesmerizing - the feel of all those motors spinning under your fingers is magical. Now I collaborated with Gforce Software to create my own Mellotron library, and it is rather odd. I sampled all my favorite and rare synths, some broken, some just strange on their own, and acoustic and electro-acoustic instruments, ran them through mountains of even stranger equipment and out came the Hainbach Expansion Pack. https://www.gforcesoftware.com/produc...

From Japanese poetry trainers to soviet synths, broken Italian organs to french pianos, American test equipment and German Kalimba guitars, there is a lot to keep you playing on and on. It is like being in the studio with me, minus the coffee and ceaseless anecdotes."

Noises - HAINBACH's New Experimental Instrument With AudioThing

video upload by HAINBACH

"Noises is the latest collaboration between @AudioThing and me. This time, we created an instrument (AU/VST/AAX) focused on creative exploration of textures. With unique controls, an internal sequencer, 21 banks of 8 unique sampled atmospheres each, ranging from Autobahn to forgotten flight simulator and 118 presets lovingly crafted by yours truly, Noises is made to inspire.

We believe it is a unique instrument to add texture to your music and media productions, as well as becoming an important tool in your tracks. Get it now on intro price: https://www.audiothing.net/instrument..."

"A Twisted Rainbow Of Sound

Noises is an experimental instrument with a playful and inspiring interface, designed to bring a vast world of noise into your music and audio production.

Noises is the fourth plugin we developed together with German composer and “that guy with the sweaters” Hainbach. He crafted hundreds of recordings of rare vintage measurement and tape equipment, analog synths, strange field recordings, electro-acoustic and magnetic field experiments, and more in his lab to create this creative noise instrument with us. It is designed to be fast and inspiring to use, with a big dial at its center inviting you to search for sounds and a sequencer to make them music. This results in a minimum of clicks for a maximum of sound.

Used subtly, it adds coherence to your tracks. Used creatively, this can be the basis for whole tracks. It is easy to create modern scores for film, games, and podcasts with it and a quick tool for sound design. If you need a break, put it on and relax to carefully curated noise sequences."

The Teaching Tool That Makes LoFi Beats To Study To

video upload by HAINBACH

"In this video I focus on the beauty of an obsolete class room tool, magnetic card audio recorders. Made by many companies like Eiki and Bell & Howell, these are basically the Instagram of magnetic tape recorders. Originally meant for learning languages, these have since found use for LoFi, noise and experimental music. Many of these come with line outs, mic ins and have variable speed and offer endless creative possibilities: scratching, looping, half-speed, reverse. All that with a very nice and rather deep sound, way more interesting than many cassette recorders."
