"It's been serviced recently, changed the battery in 2022. All original Presets are loading and do sound insanely good, also compared to the matrix 1000 (which I will sell soon also). Its stereo and fully editable. I baught this new around 1996 and used it only in my studio. Its in a good condition, some scratches from the rack. There is 1 ASM inside with 8 Voices."

Marion Systems MSR-2 Super Patch Mode

video upload by Silicon Breakdown

"This video demonstrates the MSR-2 Super Patches that are set up on this specific MSR-2. Super Patches can have each 8 voice playing a different preset allowing a doubling of sounds and an easy way to make unique sounds.

New Patches are dialed in with the encoder and show and ASTERIK on right. Pressing enter switches to that Patch and ASTERIK goes away."

Interesting location for the serial number.

"Marion Systems MSR-2 16 Voice Analog Synthesizer

Unit has Two Analog Synth Modules and was customized by Marion Systems

This auction is for one of the most powerful 1 unit analog synthesizers ever made. Two MIDI inputs and a 25 pin connector on each module to access all sorts of advanced features. Full MIDI implementation with velocity and aftertouch This MSR-2 comes with Original Manual and Original Power Supply Main unit 1.09 O.S. and 1.13 O.S. for each of the two ASM modules

A new Energizer battery was installed 3 years ago so should be good for another 15-20 years, but back up your stuff if you create great sounds.

Customized by Tom Oberheim and Marion Systems
In 1998 I sent the unit back to Marion Systems for an upgrade. They added a second Analog Synth Module (ASM) and upgraded the O.S. I was working as a tech at E-mu Systems and Tom Oberheim called me at work and we talked about my love for all synths Oberheim. He told me he could disable the EQ in the MSR-2 and get an addition al 3 DB of gain. I told him that would be great, they removed EQ, and the volume gain is significant. Tom was really nice and it was an honor, as an EE myself, to talk to him.

So yes this is a customized MSR-2 by Tom Oberheim and his Marion Techs. The Eq section screen is still there in software, but has no effect since disabled

Custom programmed SuperPatch sounds
I have created several Super Patches as shown in video below to show the power of this synth. The Super Patches are organized in groups
10 Bass Super Patches
10 Pad Super Patches
10 Lead Patches
and Sound Effect Super Patches
The factory patches are installed in the first 200 patches on each Analog Synth Module.

Search three words Silicon Breakdown Oberheim to see my love for the Oberheim synths. I have a picture of Tom Oberheim hanging in my studio. I have owned the website Silicon Breakdown since 1999, which is devoted to American analog synths.

This MSR-2 has been used in many songs by Mad Science Lab, search Spotify, Apple Music or my music site MadScienceLab(.)com
I only sell one or 2 synths a year from my collection.

The unit has never had any mechanical or audio issues and is 100% working."

Marion Systems MSR-2 16 voice demo

video upload by Silicon Breakdown

"This video demos basic features of the Marion Systems MSR-2 analog synthesizer by Tom Oberheim. This unit has two 8 voice analog modules. The SuperPatch mode is shown in detail where I have programmed 10 Bass SuperPatches and 10 Pad SuperPatches to show the real power of this synthesizer. I slowly demo each of these SuperPatches.
The units LCD screen is hard to focus on without getting close, so early section unit screen is slightly blurry.
Moving in closer camera focuses on LCD.
SuperPatches are selected, and then an asterisk shows next to name.
Pushing enter switches SuperPatch to selected"

"The Marion MSR-2 was designed by Tom Oberheim and so it is known for having the 'Oberheim sound' packaged inside a compact single-space rackmount module with modern digital reliability and MIDI implementation. Despite its rather harmless and simple appearance, the MSR-2 allows for some fairly complex but intuitive programming. The filters, envelopes, LFOs and other parameters are very analog-like in their sound and editing methods. The module is also 16-part multitimbral. And external inputs route a signal through the envelope and filter sections. The MSR-2 is rare but definitely worth checking out."

Vangelis - Blade Runner (End Titles) - Live by Kebu in Helsinki 2019

Published on Nov 21, 2019 Kebu

"Kebu's all-analog synth arrangement of Vangelis' Blade Runner (End Titles), performed live at Kuudes Linja in Helsinki, 22.5.2019.

Thanks to Mika Knuutila and Jonatan Flinck for operating the cameras, and Sebastian "Baba" Sjöblom for the light show!

Kebu performed the tune using only analog synthesizers, with some parts played live and some parts sequenced. The performance was recorded directly from the mixer to a stereo track, and was later mixed together with the ambience from the room.

Equipment used in this song: Alesis Andromeda A6; Korg Polysix, Poly 61, Mono/Poly; Roland TR-808, JX8P, Alpha Juno 1&2; DSI Tetra, Jomox AirBase99, Touched-by-sound DRM1, Oberheim Matrix 1000, Marion Prosynth, Akai MPC2500 (only for MIDI sequencing), Yamaha 01v96, Behringer X32 Rack (preamps & reverb only), Lexicon MPX1, as well as a midi patchbay and additional preamps for my mixer."

"legendary and rare sound module Marion MSR-2. This device was designed by Tom Oberheim, and produced in very small amount, like ~100 pcs only. Boasts for well known and easy detecting sound of Oberheim devices, offer 8 voices, SEM filters, direct inputs into filter, other beloved sweet things. If you looking onto this module, you know what is it, but more detail if forgot, or never seen : [posted here - link fixed].

Physically device in very good condition considering age, except a bit bent left ear, but flat in fact/small chipped paint, from previous owner. All buttons, encoders, LCD working perfectly, no faults, original outboard PSU with clean dense DIN connector."

Laleh - Kristaller (Kebu Remix)

Premiered 28 minutes ago Kebu

Some more Kebu for you. Love the synth spotting and the ability to hear what each synth is generally doing in these.

"Written by Aida S, Frank Nobel and Laleh Pourkarim
Original produced by Laleh Pourkarim
Remix produced by Sebastian 'Kebu' Teir
Performed by: Kebu

This remix was made using analog synths and analog(* drum machines as the sole sound sources, in addition to the original vocals:

Cyclone TT-606; Dave Smith Evolver, Mopho & Tetra (x 2); Jomox AirBase99; Hypersynth Xenophone; Marion ProSynth; Moog Minimoog D; Oberheim Matrix 6R & Matrix1000 (x 3); Roland Alpha Juno 2, JX-3P (with KiwiTech upgrade), JX-8P, SH-09 and TR-808.

(* The AirBase99 has also samples in addition to the analog synth drums. However, for this music I only used the analog synth drums.

The song was sequenced with Cubase and mixed with a Yamaha LS9-32. The stems were further mixed and mastered using Cubase with various plugins.

Controllers used: M-Audio Trigger Finger; Roland JD-XA; Roli Seaboard Grand

Camera: Heidi Väisänen
Video editing: Kebu

Many thanks to Gustaf Thörn & Laleh for providing the stems for my remix!"

"Ultra rare used Marion Systems MSR-2 Modular Synthesizer rack. This one has 2 voice boards installed, total of 16 analog Oberheim voices in a tiny rack! 16 part multitimbral too! This little guy is powerful, look up the specs. The mod matrix is deep. This is not the watered down ProSynth which looks similar. This has to be the smallest analog rack with 16 voices. Tom Oberheim built very little of these. This synth sounds amazing, I haven't heard anything online that does it justice. It also has an input to run audio through the Oberheim filters. Its running the latest OS. Its easy to edit from the front panel but there is also an editor that you can download. This synth shines when you layer the sounds. For example, you can run a pad and bell patch at the same time and it sounds like a analog D-50. You can also put the voices in unison and then detune for massive sounds. It responds to velocity and aftertouch which is awesome. Comes from a smoke free home. Comes with the original rare power supply."
