NAMM 2015: Miselu C.24 and MIDI HD Bluetooth

"NAMM 2015: Miselu C.24 and MIDI HD Bluetooth Updates on the iPad keyboard case"

He mentions the C.24 is the only poly aftertouch controller on the market for under $1000. There's actually the CME Xkeys as well. The Xkey, however, does not support wireless blue tooth like the C.24 and requires USB power.

If two octave's isn't enough for you, you can chain two.

New features C.24 & first look at T.10 from Miselu on Vimeo.

"Here is a quick demo showing optical octave switching and sustain as well as using the T.10 for pitch bend.

Swiping your hand along the right side of the keyboard activates sustain. Swiping your hand along the left side of the keyboard transposes the keyboard up one octave (motion front to back) or down an octave (motion from back to front).

The Miselu C.24 and T.10 are Bluetooth Low Energy devices designed to work with any CoreMIDI application running in iOS."

NAMM2014 QUICCO Sound Bluetooth MIDI Controller & Miselu Bluetooth Keyboard

Published on Jan 27, 2014 RockoNCompany·529 videos

Miselu bluetooth keyboard for iPad comes in at 1:55.

Note this is the first Quicco Sound post. I visited the booth as well. The device is solid and has that "ooh, colorful blinky lights" appeal to it. And of course it's wireless. Less cables in your setup is always a good thing. The two people behind QUICCO Sound come from a long history working at Roland and Yamaha. I'll post some pics of the device this week, but it's one of those devices that looks (and feels) even better in person.

Update: accidentally had Cuico instead of Quicco.

Miselu C.24 Kickstarter Campaign Hits Goal

via Miselu

"Hi everyone

This is really amazing! In less than a week we reached our campaign goal. We are thrilled about your support.

The campaign is still going strong with 20 days to go and there are even units left at $99. Visit our Kickstarter page for details:

www.miselu.com/kickstarter

We also had some rather positive press since the launch.

"This is arguably the most innovative thing to happen to compact keyboard actions in years," says Time Magazine.

Engadget, Mashable, USA Today and Nikkei, among others, have also weighed in quite favorably.

We are currently working on a series of videos that show the C.24 in action and will publish them in the next couple of weeks.

Again, thanks to everyone for pledging and supporting us.

C.24 - The Music Keyboard for iPad

C.24 - The Music Keyboard for iPad from Miselu on Vimeo.

You might remember Miselu from their stand alone touch screen keyboard with the Korg Polysix (see the Miselu label for all posts).  They are now developing a two octave wireless keyboard for the iPad that doubles as a cover.  It's an innovative design which you will see in these videos and the description below.  They are seeking funding for the device on www.miselu.com/kickstarter.

"The C.24 is a two octave wireless music keyboard designed for iPad. The ultra portable C.24 transforms from a protective cover into a piano-style keyboard at the touch of a spring-loaded latch.

"Keyboard performance

The use of anti-polarity magnets creates the semi-weighted feel of the keyboard. By using magnets instead of traditional springs reliability and longevity are extended.

Each key press is sensed by an infrared emitter detector pair providing real time analog position data. Optical key tracking technology delivers MIDI velocity, monophonic aftertouch as well as detailed performance capabilities.

Capacitive modulation

Just above the keyboard is the capacitive ribbon controller. The ribbon extends across the width of the keyboard and is divided into two regions, each with 32 embedded LEDs for visual feedback. The left region is configured to function as eight buttons, by default assigned to shift the keyboard’s octave assignment. The right region is designed for analog expression such as pitch bend.

We didn't stop at keys and ribbon controls…

Our team designed an open standard for hardware expansion modules.Tactile controls such as knobs, faders and XY pads will be available in the future. This allows you to configure your C.24 based on your performance requirements. Third parties have already started work on innovative modules.

Communication and compatibility

The C.24 communicates to the iPad via Bluetooth Low Energy. We developed an open standard for CoreMIDI over Bluetooth. This technology can be used by any developer to transmit and receive MIDI wirelessly to compatible iOS devices.

KEY app

Miselu’s KEY application makes it possible to use Bluetooth devices to make music. KEY allows you to assign your keyboard’s output to any CoreMIDI compatible iOS application. You can also save presets, allowing you to quickly change your setup during a performance."

Miselu Interview with Korg's Hironori Fukuda

Hironori Fukuda recently ported the KORG Polysix to Miselu featured in this post. You can find the full interview on miselu. On the port:

"How would you describe the experience of porting the application to the Miselu platform?

'Looking back, everything went smoothly. The Miselu platform has already been perfectly customized for synthesizer use with low latency audio playback based on their great MusicSDK. Also, I felt that the display size really works well music apps. For example, it behaves just like the top panel of hardware so designing the user interface was very straightforward. It ended up being a much easier port than I had expected.'"

KORG Polysix & Yamaha Vocaloid Come to Miselu

Malte of Miselu sends in the following news. Pics & video below via Engadget. You might remember Miselu from this post, and this post.

"I wanted to share a few exiting updates with you that we will show live at Google I/O starting today.

Since SXSW the hardware reference design continues to mature, but mainly focused on the software side and have released our music SDK alpha to a select group of developers that used our Miselu emulator environment (alpha for Mac and Linux) to the build apps.

Yamaha has produced a Vocaloid application prototype for the Miselu platform. The app (codename “MV-01”) is produced by music game designer luminary Tetsuya Mizuguchi. Vocaloid is a singing synthesizer technology developed by Yamaha that uses concatenative synthesis to splice and process vocal fragments extracted from human voice samples. Vocaloid allows to create an authentic computer-generated singing voice with text-to-lyics capability. More details.

Korg is bringing a software implementation of their world-renowned synthesizer, the Polysix, to the Miselu platform.

In addition Plasma Sound, the premiere music instrument for Android, was ported to our device. The developer didn’t have access to the hardware and solely used the SDK and emulator.

Retronyms expanded their nStudio suite for Miselu [video of early version here]. Retronym’s cofounder Dan Walton says, 'Miselu has designed something really special. Neiro is much more then a tablet with a piano keyboard attached. For the first time we have a touch based hardware platform dedicated to music. The wide control screen gives this little instrument unlimited potential. Miselu has gone the extra mile to reduce audio latency making this one of the most responsive devices we have seen.'

We are also pleased to announce the addition of Jory Bell as the company’s CTO. Jory was cofounder and CEO of OQO, a San Francisco startup that created the ultra-mobile computing (UMPC). Before Jory was at Apple Computer, where he helped design several laptop models and was responsible for co-inception of the Titanium Powerbook."

Video of Retronyms' Drum Deranger for Miselu (Early Demo)

Video of Retronyms' Drum Deranger for Miselu (Early Demo) from Miselu on Vimeo.

"We finally had a chance to sit down with John-Paul Walton (co-founder of Retronyms) to have him showcase the early version of the XOX Drum Deranger. This video doesn't include all the final features and polish yet, but can provide you an idea of the final product that Retronyms is building for the neiro. It is only the first device they are bringing to the neiro with much more to come."
