"This listing is for one Tama Techstar TS-305, an analog drum synth module that features six independent voices (bass, snare, rim and 3 toms). It can be triggered either via drum pad, voltage gate or audio. Unit has some scratches here and there but ultimately works great."

You can find demos of the 305 in the archives here.

I believe this is the first TS-202 to be featured. It might look familiar, but you are likely mistaking it for the TS-204 as seen here.

BIN of $175 on this one.

"This is a 1980's Tama Techstar TS 204 analog percussion synthesizer rack mount unit (without ears) featuring a "Synth" channel and a "Hand Clap"channel. It has some typical signs of use and one of the ends is a little bent on the edge. Everything works and sounds great."

The sounds can can be triggered by either drum pads, or a trigger in - Works great in a modular setup! No MIDI!

There are individual outs for each sound, or they can be summed to a single output."

Tama TSQ-1000 Drum Trigger Sequencer + Simmons SDS-8 Electronic Drums (1986)

Published on Nov 22, 2017 RetroSound

"(c) 2017 vintage synthesizer demo by RetroSound

Tama TSQ-1000 Drum Trigger Sequencer

The very rare trigger sequencer features 6 channels incl. accent, (level switchable between 5V and 15V) and can be synced via DIN-Sync (24ppq, as master or slave).

There are 8 banks with 4 patterns each. Each patterns can be from 12 up to 64 steps long.

Inspired by the classic Roland TR drum machines, the unit was conceived as a control unit for Tama's TS-305 and TS-306 drum brains and works with other gear too. (Simmons, Syncussion, Vermona....)"

Tama Techstar 305 Demo

100 Things I Do
Published on Aug 5, 2017

"The Tama Techstar 305 was one in the line of many similar Tama Drum brains from the 1980's.

While it can give some pretty decent sounds the filter implementation does limit it a little. The tone range also does not go as high as the Simmons so you don't get as much downward bounce on 'those 80's synth toms'. The snap\click is also very different. The attack is VERY aggressive at its top setting as you will hear.

For those interested (and that read comments :D ) I have provided a small sample pack for you to download and use. Last time I did this my storage was flooded... fingers crossed this time it stands up a little better!

If you grab one of sample packs please leave a comment, I would like to do more sample packs of synths/drums found and ambient sounds.. let me know what you think.. :D

031517 - Swing/Shuffle Super Saw Synth Jam: Arp Odyssey - Roland Boutique JP-08 - Tama TS305

Published on Mar 16, 2017 R E : S o u n d

"All tracks recorded live, in a single take, with no mixing, editing, or post-production done after the fact.

In a seires of firsts, I decided to make sort of a super saw patch on my JP-08, experiment with the swing feature on the BeatStep Pro, and jam on a less ambient piece with a faster, more upbeat tempo. I tried to keep this one a bit shorter (about 2 1/2 minutes), as it's a little more repetitive than the slower stuff.

The super saw patch is dual layer, slightly detuned on three of the four oscillators, with some cross modulation and delayed LFO to pitch modulation on one layer for movement. I then ran the signal through an Electrix Filter Factory on 12dB/oct LPF. Sequeced by BeatStep Pro via MIDI.

The bass line is handled by the Odyssey, with some LFO to LPF modulation added in for a bit. Sequenced by BeatStep Pro via MIDI.

The drums are coming from a Tama Techstar TS305, triggered from the drum CV gate outs on the BeatStep Pro drum sequence into the TS305's individual trigger inputs.

Mixed on PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2, with a bit of reverb and delay added, with the mix headphone output sent directly into my GoPro. There is also some of the mic on my phone mixed in because I didn't know until afterward that the headphone line on the mixer wasn't plugged all the way in, which left me with my awesome stereo mix signal being smashed into mono and coming only from the left channel. So, apologies for the poor audio. Video recorded on GoPro Hero 2 and iPhone 7s Plus, edited in iMovie on my iPhone.

Enjoy."

"I bought these years ago from somebody who claimed these belonged to Billy Cobham. It makes sense as he is a Tama endorser. When I asked Billy about these units, he had no recollection of them.
It appears intended to use with drum-mounted pickups. However i was able to experiment & clock it with a Doepfer Shaltwerk, Roland TR-606 & new Roland TB-03.
