Story:

The M1 and the Wavestation both truly changed the world of synthesizers! With its completely new sounds which have never been heard before, it has changed not only a whole music scene, but has probably shaped the entire decade of the 90s.

30 years have passed since KORG released its prototype 731 at NAMM in 1988. Shortly after this release, the M1 Music Workstation was introduced. Thankfully the M1 fans would like to say HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

30 years later: The wait has finally come to an end.

Is it possible to link the M1 to the concepts and technologies of the 21st century so that the unique sounds can be preserved in future?

We have made it possible to upload your own samples and waveforms into the M1 and Wavestation! WaveReX® is an USB card similar to the regular PCM cards for the PCM DATA slot. Just upload your own samples to the WaveReX® Card and create your own multisounds or drumsets. This enables you to explore entirely new sound dimensions. No limits!

Use PCM-samples or Single Cycle Waveforms (DWGS) – everything is possible! Simply compile your own, new card and upload it via USB onto the card.

Use waveforms from Kawai K1, K3, K4 or 5000, PPG Waves oder the analog classic (Moog, Roland, KORG, SC and many more. WaveReX® is your solution!"

See the WaveReX label below for more.

WaveReX MC-256 Cartridge Winner!

And we have a winner! The drawing was completely random. Congrats go to supporting member, zero11zero, who tells me the cart will go to good use with his Roland gear. I hate not being able to give everyone who entered a cart, so runner ups will be getting MATRIXSYNTH Ts. :)

I want to give WaveReX a HUGE thank you for supplying the cart. If you have gear that can use any memory carts or cards be sure to check out their site at https://shop.waverex.de.

P.S. If you are a manufacturer and would like to offer any giveaways, contact me at matrixsynth@gmail.com. Multiple posts typically come out of giveaways.

WaveReX MC-256 Memory Cart Giveaway

Just a reminder, supporting members of the site can enter for a free WaveReX MC-256 Memory Cart for Roland Gear. If you have a compatible Roland synth or drum machine be sure to email matrixsynth@gmail.com if you are interested. If you don't think you will win, no one has entered since the first post, so you might want to consider it. :) BTW, this is open to anyone that signs up to support the site prior to the new year.

Side note: Roland changed the orientation of the MC card slot on some of their synths. Check WaveReX for orientation. Although the site implies the cartridge doesn't work on certain gear, I verified with them that it's just the orientation that won't work so to speak. The cart will still work, it will just be facing the opposite direction making it more difficult to see the display.

Merry Synthmas and & a MATRIXSYNTH Giveaway!

What's that left under the tree?...

Is that a WaveRex MC-256 Memory Cartridge with a whopping 256 banks for supporting Roland gear like the JX-8P, JX-10, TR-909, and TR-707? Why yes it is! You might remember from this post it came in and I do not need it! I mentioned I would be giving it away to a supporting member of the site and to stay tuned. Well the time has come. If you are a supporting member and want it, email me at matrixsynth@gmail.com. At the end of the year, yes you have to wait that long, I will pick a lucky winner. I'm guessing many are spending time with their families so I want to give members some time. BTW, if you have ever considering supporting the site, and would like a chance at picking up this cart, you can enter before January 1st. Just be sure to email me to add you to the pool. Currently we have 234 supporting members, and I'm guessing not every one will enter.

Thank you to all the supporting members of the site, and thank you to all of you who take time out of your day to just visit and participate. I understand signing up to support a site can be a hassle and something many may not want to go through the trouble to do. That is totally fine. Please know that the site does appreciate you! This giveaway is just a little extra I'd like to offer to those who give a little extra to the site to keep it running. Thank you all! And huge thanks to WaveRex for making this giveaway possible! Be sure to check out their site for additional synth carts and RAM cards.

Merry Synthmas! :)

WaveReX: A short demo with new Sounds

Published on Sep 24, 2018 WaveReX

"A short demo of the WaveReX Expansion in the Korg M1 with new Sounds and waveforms.

The WaveReX Waveform Refill eXpansion is THE extension for the Korg M1 and KORG Wavestation. It's a modern PCM extension for the Korg M1, the Korg Wavestation and all other devices with AI synthesis. You can only load samples onto WaveReX using the included editor. During operation, the card is powered by the M1.
Currently you can upload AIFF, WAV and MP3 Waves/ Samples and edit them in the Synthesizer – just like regular PCM cards.
WaveReX works in the M1, M1R, M3R, T-series and Wavestation. In order to keep the costs low no external distribution is planned, we distribute it on our website waverex.de

Production should start by the end of the fourth quarter of 2018!"

New WaveReX Expansion Card for the Korg M1 Allows Loading of Custom Waveforms

WaveReX - Waveform Refill eXpansion for Korg M1 - Demo

Published on May 31, 2018 WaveReX

"This short demonstrations shows you how the WaveReX works and how easy it is to load almost every sample you want into your beloved M1.

WaveReX extension does not require a reconstruction of the synthesizer, has the same form as the own PCM cards and can very simply be placed in the ROM-slot of the M1. A total of 512 kByte are available for your own samples, exactly as the original cards.

It emulates and copies PCM cards – or enables you to create your own.

The sounds/waveforms of the following devices are available:
• DSS-1 / DSM-1 DWGS
• DW-8000 DWGS
• MS-2000 DWGS
• all sounds of the T-series

This card is still a full working beta model. The RC1 will be released in July 2018 and of course it'll be in a plastic case (we're working on it).
Finally, truly fresh sounds can be created using your new born Korg M1.

The Software is WIN - a version for Mac OSX is planned!

Take your M1 to the 21th century and visit www.waverex.de"

via WaveReX where you can find additional details:

"With WaveReX it is possible to create your own PCM cards on the computer (samples, multisounds, drumsounds), and use it on your M1. You can load your cards via USB from computer to the WaveReX."

"There is no doubt about it: the M1 truly changed the world of synthesizers! With its completely new sounds which have never been heard before, it has changed not only a whole music scene, but probably shaped the entire decade of the 90s. With approximately 250k sold synthesizers, it marked a milestone in the music and synthesizer history. 30 years have passed since KORG has released its prototype 731 at NAMM in 1988. Shortly after this release, the M1 Music Workstation has been introduced. Thankfully and reverently we, the M1-Fans, would like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

30 years later: The waiting has finally come to an end

Is it possible to link the M1 to the concepts and technologies of the 21st century such that the unique sounds can be preserved in future?

We say: Yes! …and made the almost impossible possible!

With WaveReX we made it possible to load own samples and waveforms into M1! WaveReX is an external card which, similar to the regular PCM cards, is inserted into the PCM DATA slot. Own samples can then be loaded in M1 to create own multisounds or drumsets. This enables you to explore entirely new sound dimensions. Limitations to internal waveforms or PCM-cards have finally been overcome.

No matter if you work with PCM-samples or Single Cycle Waveforms (DWGS) – all is possible! Simply compile a card on your PC and load it via USB on the card.

You want waveforms from Kawai K1, K4 or 5000 in your M1? No problem. You want synthesis and Waves à la PPG? Waveforms of analog classics (Moog, Roland etc.?).

Then the WaveReX is your solution! The WaveRex-Board is not just a sampler as AKAI or E-MU, but should enrich the possibilities of synthesis. The foundations have been laid in 1988. In 2018, the time has come to fully exploit the potential of M1 for the first time in history.

The WaveReX-Team"
