Sand Blind

Published on Sep 22, 2019 davidryle

"5U Large Format Modular Synthesizer. This self-playing piece is structured around a simple sequence from the synthesizers.com Q960 step sequencer.
It is generating a seven step "circle of fifths".
There are three VCO's - Synthetic Sound Labs Double-DekaUltrasonic VCO, an SSL VCO through a 5-Pulser and a trio of Mos Lab 901's and 904-B filter.
The DDVCO is tuned to the low root, the Mos Lab's are tuned to a ninth above and the SSL is a fifth above that. The mix from a STG Soundlabs mixer is then run to an Empress reverb in modulation mode and a TC Electronic tape delay DSP from the D-Two rack delay.
A secondary voice from the Sputnik West Coast Random Source module to a FSFX Braids in Harmonic mode is the detuned sliding discordant background melody. It has a slew integrator FM modulation to give it the slowly bending pitch effect. Timbre and Color are modulated from the WCRS as well. It is further flanged by an SSL Digital Delay.
Several filters (dotcom Q107, STG Sea Devils, Yusynth Arp 4072 and a Mega Ohm Audio CdS) are being pinged by various envelopes - some looping. They are STG Soundlabs EG, Q109's and Oakley Sound Labs VCADSR (Krisp1 build).
A pair of STG Voltage Mini Stores are producing a rapid loop step sequence to a pair of Q106's which come and go in the background.
There are a couple of noise pads in the background. One is from a pink noise to an Oakley VCSVF in band pass which is modulated from the WCRS and an LFO then on to a Strymon Blue Sky pedal. The other is a quick fluttering high white noise sound through an Encore frequency shifter (which is pitch modulated from a Q960 sequencer) and then sent to a Jurgen Haible Tau "Pipe" Phaser.
Further gate and LFO timing is handled with the Moon Modular M563 Trigger Sequencer, the SSL V-Gates, a pair of Q962 Sequential Switches and Q961 Interfaces.
Other modular delays involved are the Modcan 73B Dual Delay and a custom Behringer DD400 digital delay."

Quadrature Modulator DESTROYS JS Bach

Published on Jul 9, 2019 Sbranvlztronics

"The Quadrature Modulator comprises a Quadrature VCO (Yusynth VCLFO) and a "Dome Filter" (from J. Haible's Frequency Shifter)- see links bellow.
The VCO portion has 3 potentiometers (coarse and fine frequency tuning and modulation CV attenuation), one CV input, 4 outputs and 4 LED indicators.
The dome filter section has one input and two outputs. The outputs are 90º phase shifted from each other. The video shows the waveforms from the VCO and Dome Filter on oscilloscope.
Differences from Yusynth Quadrature VCLFO are the capacitor value (1nF instead of 10nF), and changes in the freq control (fine tuning pot, reduction of the CV input resistor value).
It can operate at audio and sub audio ranges (0.2 to 4000 Hz approximately), but 1V/8ª tracking is only marginal (~2 octaves).
There is no significant differences in the dome filter circuit.
Some examples shown in the video:
Quadrature VCO controlling 4 VCOs, 1V/8ª CV for the Quadrature VCO input coming from the CV Quantizer.*
Frequency Shifter patch using the Quadrature Modulator and two Ring Modulators.*
Adding FM CV to Quatradure VCO (from the Arduino Clock Divider Logic Thing Octal DAC).*"

Published on Jun 19, 2019 yusynthman

yusynthman aka Yves Usson is the man behind yusynth.net DIY & Arturia's Minibrute line of synths.

"During the recent SynthFest France 2019 in Nantes I had the great joy and honour to demonstrate my rare PPG-100 modular synthesizer to Johannes Schmoelling (Tangerine Dream 1978-1982, Loom) and Kurt Ader (musician and sound-designer at KApro). It was an exhilarating moment for me to demo TD like sequences before a former member of Tangerine Dream... I felt like in heaven ! This videao was shot by Nicolas Jalabert."

Description for the third video:
"During the Synthfest Fest France in France (june 7th to 9th 2019) I exhibited a very rare PPG-100 analog modular synthesizer (something like 10 units built in 1974). The keyboard is played by Tony Quenneville and the video was shot by Tarek Lule. On some motion of the camera you may catch a glimpses of an Emulator 2, a CMI Faitlight, ARP 2500 and ARP 2600 modulars, an 8 voices Schmitt and Synclavier controller that were also on display and test in the same room.

Analog Arpeggiator / Groovebox/ Synthbox with Yusynth Metalizer

Published on May 8, 2019 Andreas Remshagen

"A Demonstration of another Synthesizer-Component i`ve made.
It Incudes 4 VCO`s, each contains Square/Sine/Triangle and Saw-Wave. Every Wave can be mixed into the Main Signal.
The VCF is a Steiner-VCF. Two ADSR drives the VCF and the VCA.
The Metalizer can be feeded with each Waveform that is mixed to
the main Signal. The internal clock drives 4 switchable arpeggiator-sections. the arpeggiator can be set from 1 to 10 Steps.
Internal clock and external clock is possible and there is a gate-out. In the arpeggiator-section i added an "Akzentuator", it gives out an adjustable Accent on selectable positions (1-0-1-0; 11-00-11-00; 111-000-111-000 etc) The accent sets the VCF frequency.
The box can also be used as a normal analog-synthesizer with each VCO-CV in and a master/all VCO-CV in

VCO, VCF, VCA and Metalizer-Design comes from Yusynth (www.yusynth.net)
ADSR-Design comes from Rene Schmitz
(www.schmitzbits.de)
The Arpeggiator and the Akzentuator are modified 4017 countercirquits modified by myself"

Quad Octoginta II Yusynth Miscreant from Million Machine March 4 OSC Eurorack Module with Joystick

via Million Machine March

"Since the CEM3340 chip was put back into production, and after seeing what a few other makers have built with them, I decided it was time for me to come up with my own take on this ‘tried and true’ chip! I looked over the various designs on using the CEM3340’s and settled on the Octoginta II.

Now that the VCO’s were sorted and I was able to purchase the DIY PCB’s, I needed to choose a wavefolder design. I like what Yusynth did with Haible’s wavefolder and went with his design here.

The YuSynth design required me to make my own PCB’s. This can be a laborious process if you have not done it before. But I have the process down to a science here in the lab, so I was able to get these made pretty quickly. Taste the Sodium Persulfate in the air, aahhhhh!...

The inspiration for this build and using these particular chips is to try and satisfy my want for a Oberheim OB-Xa! Hopefully Behringer will be able to produce an affordable clone soon, but in the meantime…"

YuSynth VCS3 Filter in Eurorack Format

Published on Dec 18, 2018 Randy Piscione

"This is a demo of a Eurorack version of the YuSynth VCS3 diode voltage controlled filter (VCF). It's a bit long, 6 minutes, but I tried to cover most of what it would do. There's no talking! I don't have a VCS3 to compare this too so I'm not sure if it really sounds like it's namesake filter, but it's still cool either way.

I start off with the usual frequency and resonance demo with one VCO input. At 2:00, another VCO is added. Around 3:00, some frequency modulation, 3:30, resonance modulation, at 4:30, both modulations and we see what it does with something closer to audio rates for modulation.

Other modules featured off-stage include a PM Foundations Synthola Sequencer and two Frequency Central Waverrunner LFOs."

YuSynth aka Yves Usson is the designer of the MiniBrute which led to the MicroBrute and MatrixBrute. He is know for his DIY work prior to Arturia, mainly in the 5U format.

THEREMIN test - les diffYUseurs (Ondes Martenot's loudspeakers emulation)

Published on Jul 27, 2018 Therminal C I C Ehinger

"Les diffYUseurs is a device that emulates the sound & effect emitted by the different diffusers (loudspeakers) made by Maurice Martenot for the Ondes Martenot. It was created and designed by Yves Usson aka Yusynth (http://yusynth.net/index_en.php).

I have been testing a prototype Yves sent me (with my logo & name on it, so classy!!!) with my theremin. Yves did add some additional effects to this pedal - i am only showing a few in the video:
D1 - principal diffuser
D2 - resonance diffuser
D3 - metallic diffuser
D4 - Palme diffuser
Ring modulator
Tremolo & reverb
Bell

Additional effects are : chorus, flanger, pitch shift, pitch echo, transpose, a second palme diffuser, a second metallic diffuser.

A few other people also got a diffYUseurs and after our feedbacks, Yves will make some adjustments and offer a totally "theremin friendly" diffYUseurs. It will be available at the next Theremin Academy in Lausanne in February 2019. (https://theremin.academy/fr/)

I have only 16 Steps on my DIY Analog-Sequencer so i had to change some notes and
every Step had to be repeated with an Echo (Yamaha FX 500)
Then it could ran on half timing and i had the
nessesary 32 steps for this theme. Its not perfect but i hope you enjoy it."

Analog Synth #2 - Sad and Slow

Published on Jul 12, 2018 Andreas Remshagen

"The Strings-Machine (explained in my videos before) is driven over two ADSR`s - one for the VCA and one for the Steiner-VCF.
(Both ADSR`s are driven over an LFO - see the blue flashing light)
The Attack
is not too fast so it has the Character of an String-Orchestra.
The Strings-Machine plays a four-Notes Chord in minor.
The Keyboard is a modified Formant-Keyboard (Two Wheels and
a Vibrato is added in the Control-Panel)
The Solo Voice is a Sine-VCO running through a Moog-Clone Filter
(Both are described in the site from www.yusynth.net)"

BOB's LADDER based on moogs ladder filter built on simple perf board

Published on Feb 5, 2018 markusfuller

"Here I make a ladder filter for the modular system.
this is based on Bob Moogs ladder filter and redesigned updated by yusynth.net . I have made a few small variations but the main design with circuit diagrams etc can be downloaded from yusynth.net.
Instead of making a circuit board i decided to make this one on perfboard just to show that it can easily be made by anybody without having to cnc or etch a board yourself.
the music track within this video "Skylab" was composed and performed by: markus fuller - Jason Lee & Dan Ward ©2018."
