SIEL DK600 / OPERA 6 SYNTH SIDE PANELS

via this auction

"Space-Age Polycarbonate Synthesizer End Cheeks!
Well, to be honest I'm not quite sure what these are made of, but if your Siel's sides are cracked and broken, these are just the thing to spruce the old girl up! In excellent condition, just a couple of minor scuffs on the edges, and no breaks or cracks. Includes original mounting screws, four per side, and easily user installable in about 10 minutes!
Check my other listings for more hard-to-find SIEL spare parts! Please note, these all come from a DK600, but it is my understanding that they are all compatible with the Opera 6 and KIWI as well, but I cannot confirm this personally."

Sunday Modcan Aleatory

"100% aleatoric (randomly generated) music generated while doing studio maintenance. No MIDI or sequencers are used for composition or playback. All modules are Modcan except for a Cynthia dual ADSR and a Synthesis Technology patch/multiple module."

Red MacBeth M5N

via Heath Finnie who has two new albums out. Ironically they do not feature the M5N, but it will be featured in a new release.

Some notes on the current albums:
"Two of my albums are now available on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, etc. These are made of of songs/fragments that were worked on over the last few years. So these are compilations, but of things that have never been for sale before. "Sounds From Beneath the Floorboards" is a full albums worth of louder and nosier songs, and the ep "Moments Before the Eclipse" is a mix of some louder and some more melodic songs. I'm putting together "The Leaves that are Brown" which is a compilation from the same period but will feature more mellow and even ambient recordings from the same time period. "

Synths used:
ARP Odyssey MK1
EML 101
EML 200
EML 400/401
EMS Synthi A
Korg MS-10
Korg MS-20
Moog Memorymoog Plus
Oberheim Matrix-12
Roland System 700
SCI Prophet 10

JH Variable Slope Filter / Phaser

via JH on the AH list:
"I'm thinking about making PCBs for this.

A mean little module from my JH-3 Modular.

6 filter poles, realzed with OTAs and combined FET / Bipolar buffer stages.

Variable Slope function for 6-pole VC LPF.
Voltage controlled Pole Spread for Phaser mode.
Zeroes switcahbel in pairs, i.e. a lot of combinations of all pass and low
pass stages. Positive and negative feedback. Positive and negative wet/dry
mix. Rather special overdrive behaviour (Dirty!), and (IMO) pleasant way of
breaking into oscillation.

Old picture (from JH-3) [pictured]

Demo 1 (Arpeggio from OB-8, with delay and reverb. First few seconds dry - then playing with phaser.):

Demo 2 ( This is something I recorded a few years ago. I don't remember all the details. But it was a Split on the OB-8, bass sound on left hand and organ sound on right hand, and the whole thing was processed with the Variable Slope Phaser / Filter to get that "pulsating" sound. Lots of delay and reverb as well, obviously.):

Admin: Top Navigation Updates

Some updates to the top nav:
1. I removed the VIDEO link. The link was just to the VIDEO label. Considering how often videos go up, it was redundant - you can find the VIDEO link at the bottom of each video post.
2. I added a new label called FEATURED. I post like a madman (30+ posts a day). One of the problems with this is some of the "more" interesting posts get buried quickly. I decided to create a FEATURED label for the posts I think stand out, and by stand out, I mean really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really stand out for me. Sorry I caught the really, really, really bug from my daughter. I'll be adding to the FEATURED label in time, so be sure to check it out now and then. This will hopefully make more posts sticky.
3. I added TWITTER, FLICKR, FLICKR POOL and EBAY to the top. FLICKR is a link to my flickr account with images people have sent in over time and including all the old auction images and more. FLICKR POOL is the new flickr group I set up for people to share their picks, and EBAY is a link to the US Ebay auctions I parse every night. I put it up there to make it easier for me.
4. I'm looking at a way to add a link to all comments for the site. That way you can see when people leave comments. If anyone knows of an easy way to do this in Blogger. Let me know.

Lainhart Live: Buchla and Films, March 28 Troy NY

via Richard Lainhart:
"Friends,
On Saturday, March 28 at 8 PM, I'll be presenting a solo concert of live electronic music at the Arts Center of the Capital Region, featuring new works and improvisations for high-definition film projection and synthesizer in quadraphonic sound. I will be performing with my Buchla 200e modular analog synthesizer, controlled by the Haken Continuum Fingerboard, an innovative 3-dimensional keyboard. I hope to see you there.
