Digitone + Max/MSP + Expert Sleepers ES-6 - Modular vid #280

Published on May 27, 2018 Phisynth

"As a modulation freak, I am a bit disappointed by the limited amount of modulation possibilities on the Digitone. So I made this Max/MSP patch to interact with the modular (trough Expert Sleepers ES-6). Now almost each parameter on the Digitone can be a modulation target by converting CV values to midi CC values. Works like a charm (still have some latency issues to deal with though), and essentially still a work in progress.

Note : there might be a slight desync between the Max/MSP screenshot and the Digitone screen"

Florescent Dream // Novation Peak + Elektron Digitone

Published on Oct 21, 2018 r beny

"A dream of blooms. Live and extended version of the track Florescent Dream from my new album Eistla. Available at rbeny.bandcamp.com if that's yr jam.

Arturia Keystep playing Novation Peak arp and Elektron Digitone pads through Boss DD-500.

The album version is 3 different Peak patches recorded to cassette and a field recording chopped up by the Make Noise Morphagene. This version features the main arp patch on the Peak, and a variation of one of the other Peak patches recreated on the Digitone. There is also a new Digitone part added to add some low end.

DD-500 is used to create feedback textures. It is seriously a beautiful pedal (it reminds me of the Analog Heat, in that there are several algorithms to choose from, but there are a lot of options to customize the patch within each algorithm. Except the 500 goes way way way deeper than the Heat). For this video I am running everything through 2 custom patches in parallel."

Wing Pinger, Wingie2 and Digitone // Living on a Cloud

video upload by Dexba

"I am super happy about this setup, and this video is actually coming from a bit of practice for some live events (both online and offline).
Everything is chained, starting from the Elektron Digitone, an incredibly versatile and compact digital synth, going into the Wing Pinger, used here as a quirky and mysterious stereo filter;
The Wing Pinger is going into the Wingie2, used also as a bit of a mixer, being sequenced by the Digitone, but with the flip of the Line/Microphone switch, I can quickly jump to vocal interaction.
Glueing everything together, the Hologram Microcosm.
I am currently loving the Microcosm not only for the dreamy sounds but also for the versatility of being a looper (like here, reversing and pitching a snippet from the Digitone), reverb, delay, filter and granulator at the same time.
Obviously, it's not as good as dedicated pedals for each task would be, but it helps me keep everything compact. The next step would be to provide MIDI for the Wing Pinger and Microcosm too, but I currently don't own any midi splitter.
I am also eyeing the 1010Music Lemondrop to go even more compact, any insight about that?
In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed it, maybe with your eyes closed or as background, dreamy, noise ✨"

Track: Marooned (Yamaha EX5, Digitone, PEAK, Blackbox, Guitar, Zoom R24)

"I tried to create a #Triphop track in the style of Massive Attack. As seen in the video, this was done #DAWless on hardware #synthesizer: Digitone plays the drum pattern and the Novation PEAK and also provides the MIDI clock. EX5 is in it's 16 voice performance mode, song sequencer playing a chain of 4 patterns (intro, verse, break, silence), providing pads, sub bass, the harp sound and some sound effects. The pad sound is a pure saw wave routed through the additional audio outputs into my pedal board. I use the Strymon Big Sky's brightness setting for creating that sublime filter sweep effect. The 1010 Music Blackbox is synced to the Digitone, playing back the guitar and vocal track recorded previously. Music recorded, mixed and mastered on a Zoom R24, as can be seen in the video. As also seen in this video, absolutely no skill whatsoever is needed for playing this live, but the preperation for this took quite some hours. :-)

Taking our MIDI gear offgrid: Stolperbeats and Digitone

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"Finished a chilled weekend with a nice Sunday evening jam! Stolperbeats is heard here MIDI sequencing Elektron's Digitone 4 voice FM synth, a secret Making Sound Machines Eurorack prototype called Percussive Maintenance as well as Fred's Lab's cheeky little paraphonic voice called Zekit. If you haven't already, go check out the DIY workshops at Superbooth 2022 - where you can actually build a Zekit yourself!

Stolperbeats, roughly translating to 'beats tripping over themselves', is a drum trigger sequencer designed to create shuffled beats influenced by artists like Flying Lotus, Hiatus Kaiyote and J Dilla. We've always been fascinated by taking our beats offgrid to give them more fluidity and life. This module allows you to easily dial in and seamlessly switch between all the shuffle, feeling and groove we would, in the past, painstakingly nudge together in a DAW.

Stolperbeats' timing is set to Clave, a special mode where the accents in a 3:3:2 rhythm are fixed "on time" and the rest of the notes shuffle around that. The idea came when we chopped up some Modeselektor beats and started to add swing to them.

The Elektron Digitone acts as a sound module here, receiving Stolperbeats' triggers as MIDI notes - channel, pitch, velocity and note length can be adjusted per track to map to any MIDI capable drum machine or synth. The MIDI is split using the incredibly handy Meeblip cubit to target an extra bass voice on Fred's Lab Zekit. Of course, you can still patch the triggers into Eurorack at the same time, so we whipped out our Percussive Maintenance drum voice to add a kick and some hihats.

While Digitone's internal sequencer is not running in this sketch, Stolperbeats still sends a MIDI clock signal so the tempo synchronizes across the two machines. Enrica uses the built-in keys to live-transpose one of the tracks and play a shuffled melody on top of the sketch. We're very excited about Elektron 's new Syntakt by the way, that looks like a perfect match for Stolperbeats."

october by sinedrifter [featuring the Elektron Digitone... all music was done w only the Digitone]

Published on Nov 4, 2018 Sinedrifter

"Just a taste of what the Elektron Digitone can do. This is part of my live set, where all of my music is under 60 BPMs. Towards the end, we drop to 33 BPMs.

FM synthesis is powerful, and beautiful. These are all either pure sine waves, or modulated sine waves. For an 8-voice synth, as you can see, the Elektron Digitone delivers rich sounds and an enjoyable FM synthesis experience. No overdubbing was needed.

All footage was shot by Cam Arjent, and they did all editing as well. Music was by performed by Sinedrifter. The band appears momentarily. I'd like to thank Yira and Dottie for their priceless contributions.

A little bit of extra info: our DAW of choice is Cubase 4.5 running on an Apple Mac G5 Quad (who needs new computers?) All mastering was done using the Focusrite Liquid Mix (no sense in upgrading when you have something that works really well). All footage was shot on a Sony a7 mmii using a Zeiss 55mm f1.5 lens, wide open. Film grain was added in post. Shot on location in Vasquez Rocks State Park, California.

This film is not meant to entertain, but to immerse.

For promotional use only. All content is Copyright 2018 Cam Arjent."

Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about the Elektron Digitone. Does this digital synth sibling of the Digitakt and Syntakt finally make FM synthesis accessible to synth noobs? Does the awesome Elektron sequencer of this FM groovebox / drum machine make a difference and why is it technically less powerful than classic 80s synths like the Yamaha DX7?

"All Those Moments" Digitone Day 2. Slow, dreamy pattern loop

Published on Feb 9, 2018 Lost For Words

"Digitone can make some gorgeous sounds. Here I've created a single looped pattern to try out evocative pads, bass and 80s bells.

The four track sounds started as carefully selected presets that I've edited quite a lot to get what I wanted but that's a great way to create your own sounds quickly.

Tonnes of delay and reverb, oh yes! (all from on-board the Digitone of course)"

Elektron Song Mode: Will it break? // with Digitakt & Digitone

video upload by Dave Mech

"In depth courses for Digitone and Digitakt! Get here: https://davemech.live/shop

Thought I'd try and sort of break song mode creating an IDM-ish break beat. It didn't break (but then it did, didn't it? I'll let myself out).
Anyway, really going to town with it is actually a lot of fun. It's created with Digitakt and Digitone where Digitakt is using song mode with a lot of tempo changes, repeats, quick pattern changes and more. It took some heavy programming and calculations but the result is interesting I think.

Enjoy!"

Caronagraphic // Digitone and Deluge ambient

Published on Dec 8, 2018 rustyjaw

"Further explorations of the Deluge, learning to use the arranger. It feels like having a super power to have such control over song structure after spending so much time working only on a modular.

This is 3 tracks from the Digitone, drums from Deluge, arppegiated synth line is Deluge, bass is JP-08.

The only module being used here is the 4MS DLD, which is adding a subtle delay on the bassline.

Deluge audio runs through Flint (it's hidden behind the stand), Digitone runs through the H9. Everything is recorded to 3 stereo tracks on the Zoom H6.

Please excuse the flickering lights! Or alternatively, enjoy the light show. The refresh rate of the LEDs interferes with the 30fps video capture. I'll have to figure out a better way to do this."
