Mark Verbos Live Improvised Modular Set at Brighton Modular Meet 2018

Published on Jul 17, 2018 DivKidVideo

"Having spoke to Mark Verbos before his live set I knew this was going to be all modular, live and improvised. I was expecting ambient (although gritty and more abstract than smooth drones) tones and textures however this developed and moved with the room and the crowd to suit the DJ before hand and Ebcidic performing afterwards. The set moves from stereo delays with the new Verbos Electronics Multitap delay which echo'd around the room beautifully through to suiting a Berlin club at 4am with slower and stomping techno patterns. It's dark and gritty throughout and all emerges from a small system.

Mark was using his own 6U 104hp Verbos system as well as a 3U skiff of Verbos modules alongside a mixer with some FX built in.

This footage is from the Brighton Modular Meet on the 1st of July 2018. The event is held at the Attenborough Centre for the Arts at the University of Sussex. More information here - http://brightonmodularmeet.co.uk . This footage however is from the after party held at the sea front club 'Patterns'."

GOD's BOX Loose Fruit *FIRST PATCH* (dual waveshaping goodness)

Published on Nov 15, 2018 DivKidVideo

"Here's my 'first patch' video with the new Loose Fruit dual wave shaper eurorack module from GOD's BOX. Going into it I was expecting great things as I love the Humpback filter and Loose Fruit certainly delivers. I'll have a full demo coming soon but for now enjoy this stereo (the two outs are hard left and right through independent LPGs) patch..."

2hp - Kick (808, soft, hard, distorted, boooooom)

Published on Apr 24, 2018 DivKidVideo

"For the third video is my #2hpTuesdays series here is the 2hp Kick! So far we've had the Pluck and Verb which show off the great quality of the 2hp range so far. The kick continues with that level of quality with Kicks ranging from soft and raw 808 like booms and clicks through to more driven, transient heavy (this thing smacks!) and pitch tracked kick/bassline hybrids. There's even a little soft melodic pattern in the video, why not! :)

Befaco Kickall (prototype) *FIRST PATCH* // mega beefy kick action!

Published on Jan 17, 2019 DivKidVideo

"So here's a short musical piece to show off the Kickall from Befaco. Now this is a prototype, things are subject to change of course but I liked the patch and wanted to share it. Super low end, warm pushing of the harmonics and generally fattening up to distorted more square kicks comes with ease and it all modulates really nicely."

CFM - Superbooth16

Published on Jun 24, 2016 DivKidVideo

"The final interview Superbooth video here with CFM. Unfortunately it was dark right where Alex was so the footage isn't amazing. However the scope shots show the audio and there's direct audio solo and full volume at the end."

WMD - TRSHMSTR *first patch*

Published on Feb 22, 2017 DivKidVideo

"Here's my first patch playing around with the WMD TRSHMSTR which is a mega character filled filter and distortion combo that WMD worked on in collaboration with MSTRKRFT. The initial idea came from running mono synths into wah pedals and distortion pedals for processing and this modules brings those ideas into eurorack while also expanded on them with loads of options."

Brighton Modular Meet 2017

Published on Aug 23, 2017 DivKidVideo

"I didn't get any video from the Brighton Modular Meet this year but I did take a few photos. So as usual when I have a little photo slideshow to do I took that opportunity to sketch out a little musical idea that's sat in my mind for a while. So selfishly this is my way to get some musical ideas out in-between all the other work going on."

Music Thing Modular - Spring Reverb mkii

Published on Dec 13, 2017 DivKidVideo

"AVAILABLE HERE - https://www.thonk.co.uk/shop/mtm-spri...

Here's the mkii / mk2 or version 2 (call it what you want!) Music Thing Modular - Spring Reverb. It's a fantastic 6HP Spring Reverb module that has RCA connectors for a Spring tank around the back of the module or has them on a breakout expander which also let's you blend between the tank signal and the accutronics digital brick (which you should also buy, with the expander, as blending a tank with that is great!) The module also has a tilt EQ function that adjusts the signal into the reverb to adjust the tone and response (heavy bass transients can make those springs slap around) as well as a fully WET output and feedback input for creative patching, a XFADE input."

AJH Synth Wave Swarm *Turn 1 VCO into 12 or your new "MAKE IT BIGGER" generator*

Published on Aug 10, 2018 DivKidVideo

"TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS BELOW - Here's the new Wave Swarm from AJH Synth. It's a dual 6 stage wave animator that can function as two independent (can do stereo) multi stage waveform animators or one big 12 stage animator. The animation is based on creating shifting versions of the input wave which when stacked with the dry sound or when stacking several stages sounds like mixing several detuned oscillators together. You can play around with each stage to emphasise or minimise the tremolo like sounds from the phase cancellations as the sounds modulate against each other. Typical applications would be turning a saw wave into a super saw but it will also do gorgeous subtle shifts in tone and harmonics with softer sines and triangles too. It will create thicker and almost glitchy effects with already modulating wavetables and complex tones while continuing to track the input wave. Determined to bend and push it beyond the basics I used it as a two distortion device and a weird wonky clock generator too.

TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS

00:00 Hello and previews of what's to come

00:56 Feature run down

01:31 Sound demo - triangle waves - looking at turning triangles to sines and then soft clipping them alongside the 6 stage animation

02:50 Sound demo - saw waves - making super saws! 6 stage and 12 stage animation

04:16 Stereo sources - two oscillators tuned a fifth a part animated independently one in each channel of the Wave Swarm. Looking at independent processing down stream for a wide stereo sound too.

05:53 Animating already complex waves - using the new V-Shape to twist and distort/fold a sine wave into something already complex and moving then letting the Wave Swarm further animate that for unison modulated 'stacks' of the sound. There's also some clipping to round off the wave.

08:14 Animating morphing wavetables - a second patch with more complex already modulating/morphing inputs. We also get into dual layer processing with the two outs here to create more simple pulses then swells of big detuned sound for more interesting patching from a single source.

12:42 Trying to animate drum sounds - also using the clipping stages as a dual (in series) distortion to drive the low end in some drum beats.

14:15 Wave Swarm - the new hot clock module! Ok ... maybe not, but while pushing and pulling this thing around as I often do before filming I managed to get one of the internal LFOs from the animation stages to feedback and 'thump/click' through the output. I used this as an audible percussion source as well as a clock source for clock dividers/multipliers and then made a beat from it. Adding other animation stages in creates a wonky clock that seems to trip over itself. This great as the modules down stream "trip up" and go a bit chaotic.

16:20 Stereo Wave Swarm animation, AB mono additional shaping and a lovely musical drone bathed in Finaliser R-EQ verb."

AJH Synth - Sonic XV *Audio Mangling*

Published on Dec 23, 2016 DivKidVideo

"Here's a bit of fun with the absolutely killer Sonic XV filter from AJH Synth. What is this man doing? Everything he touches is AWESOME! Anyway ... Simple sound going in (as you hear in the video) and one lot of modulation into the Frequency CV. Then you hear the Resonance shaping mix and input wave shaping mixes adjust for some sonic destruction. Good fun."

Make Noise QPAS // Quad Peak Animation System & Stereo Eurorack Filter

Published on Feb 19, 2019 DivKidVideo

"**TIMING INDEX / SECTIONS BELOW** So here's "the ultimate guide to QPAS" ... a mega tutorial, uber overview or any other silly name you'd like to title this with. Silliness aside, the QPAS has been great offering a lot of stereo filter tones with the quad filter cores and simple controls for a wide range of animation. The tone of the filter is hard to pin down as Tony of Make Noise designed the core (rather than cloning an old one) for the filter and the option to saturate the input VCA stage provides further tonal options. I hope this video is useful for currently QPAS owners, potential QPAS owners but more importantly I hope the video serves to demonstrate tchniques and provide ideas for any modules you own. I always try to make these useful for those with or without the module.
