2016 Torino Synth Meet 6th Edition Previews

"This year the Torino Synth Meeting confirms its international character with a number of foreign exhibitors. NON LINEAR LABS, JOMOX, MODAL ELECTRONICS, BIRD KIDS, ELEKTRONMUSIK STUDIO and YAMAHA are new to TSM2016; ARTURIA, ROLAND, YAMAHA, DSI, GRP SYNTHESIZER, FRAP TOOLS, SOUND MACHINES, ELEKTRON, MOOG, NOVATION, EUTERPE SYNTHESIZER LABORATORIES, PATCHBLOCKS, TEENAGE ENGINEERING, RADIKAL TECHNOLOGIES, WALDORF have confirmed attendance for this year.

In particular, we will be hosting some great previews: ARTURIA with the MATRIXBRUTE and KEYSTEP, YAMAHA with the MONTAGE, NON LINEAR LABS with the C15 synthesizer, SOUND MACHINES with their MODULOR114, FRAP TOOLS with the CGM modular mixer, JOMOX with their new creations and some other surprises (keep your eyes on GRP Synthesizers :-) )

For this year the meeting is open to new sectors of the music industry including DJ tools, Recording labels, Studio furniture, and schools and academics.  The first record label at the event will be ANALOGIC DENSITY from Italy.  MUSICLAB and IN.SINTESI (recording studio and academy) will be present.

TSM has earned the patronage of the CITTÀ DI TORINO for the artistic relevance of the event, and from the DAMS of UNIVERSITA' DI TORINO. The course in DAMS (Disciplines of Performing Arts, Music and Entertainment) is the reference training program of the University of Turin for film, music, television, new media, performing arts, and contemporary arts. It actively collaborates with the most important cultural institutions of Torino and Piedmont (National Cinema Museum, Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi”, Film Commission, Teatro Piemonte Europa, Piemonte dal Vivo (Theatrical Circuit of Piedmont), Teatro Stabile di Torino, Regional Division of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, Fondazione per Scuola della Compagnia di San Paolo, Turin Film Festival, and Fondazione CRT).

TSM has the honor of hosting an Italian reality, the ADO Arduino Disability Orchestra, a project aimed at people with disabilities made by students of the Politecnico di Torino, and based on the famous ARDUINO board, a platform made of specific tools and controllers that have enabled these people to be able to play, effectively creating a full orchestra.

But that's not all! More surprises are coming in the next few weeks!

"Let's listen to the GRP Synthesizer A1 - a very small analog monosynth with a high-quality sound, MIDI, CV connectability – it can be used stand-alone in its very solid case, or mounted in a eurorack modular synth. It has a good size for jamming and a quality feel.

The sound is similar to the bigger GRP synths. The filter design has a lot of character and is capable of producing formant/vocal-like sounds and a liquid sounding resonance. The great sounding distortion parameter offers many more options for designing sounds. With its MIDI and CV/Gate inputs this is a synthesizer that fits in all studio or live-environments."

"the grp r24 is a 8x3 analog step sequencer firmly based on the mighty step sequencer previously developed in grp a8 and a4 analog synthesizers. the new r24 is full of control capability with cv/gate, midi and usb connections. hardware-wise, is stand-alone self powered, with hardware compatibility for mount on 5u module format; you can use in stand alone with its internal power, or you can install in your dot.com/cotk/moon modular system. r24 respects electrical and mechanical standards for the above manifacturers.

with the appropriate brackets included in the package the machine can be easily installed in a 19 "rack still, you can use r24's own cabinet as a "presto-cabinet" for powering and using your spare 5u modules. r24 has 64 internal memories for store and retrieve separate sequences; each sequence can be set in 8x2, 16+8 or 24 mode, with any step lenght user's selectable. r24 can act as cv/gate sequencer or as midi sequencer, with separate rows for midi note selection and for key velocity step adjust."

GRP Synthesizer A3 A6 and A8

You might remember the GRP in this post on the Bluesynths Meeting 2008.

ARP 2600 w GRP R24 Sequencer + Swiss Daisy DSP

"The GRP Synthesizer company's R24 sequencer is driving two voices on the ARP 2600 and a third voice provided by the ZebraSynth.net Swiss Daisy DSP module, in "pluck voice" mode, with delay and reverb.
I'm using several features of the R24 including:
3 separate sequences (CV/Gate out ; MIDI also available)
Some sequences use the "ratchet" feature to double gate a single step.
The second row is only 6 steps, to provide a poly-rhythm for greater complexity (less monotonous ).
