Chugga Chugga Perk Perk

"What a stupid title. It's a combination of the Chug pedal used on the synths (DB-01 then the Behringer Cat) as well as the Perkons doing drums. The title coulkd have been more useful but then I'm beginning to suspect my dry and useful titles make absolutely no difference to anyone or any metric.
This piece started as a dull test of whether a DI box made any difference to the performance of the Chug pedal. It did - it made it worse. Then I just started noodling with the pedal to see whether I could coax some different sounds out of it. Couldn't do that either. It sounds good but it only has one way it grates the audio.
So then I thought I'd better add some drums so the Perkons got it's first run. It's so huge I have to work out a way to get multiple items in frame without everything looking tiny.
Against my usual policy I added some effects on the Perkons (but not on the synths) in the DAW. The Perkons got a little EQ to take out some of the massive bottom end, a little Fabfilter Saturn to dirty it up and a touch of Pro-R reverb. I wasn't using individual outs so it just got slathered over everything. A few gratuitous samples to finish.

Erica Synths Introduces Perkons Voice Eurorack Module

"Erica Synths Perkons Voice is a eurorack incarnation of the percussion voices from the PERKONS HD-01 Drum machine. Like on the drum machine, the module has hybrid architecture, featuring a digital sound engine followed by an analogue multi-mode filter and overdrive. Users can select among 13 sound generation algorithms and save up to 99 presets that can be recalled easily. Tune and Patch CV inputs are configurable for various CV settings and are tuned to 1V/oct. Module also features a 4-voice poly overlap mode and samples on the "Rompler" engine can be easily replaced.

"To everyone who comments on my videos, sincere thanks. Comments are one of the best things about making videos. If I can use an Australian analogy, my brain is the giant flock of sheep and comments are the cattle dogs barking and nipping to keep me on track. Which is to say that this comparison video of Perkons vs the LXR-02 came from ideas in a comment thread. At first I hesitated since it seemed like an irrelevant and unfair comparison. But the comments reminded me that these are the decisions we face all the time? Will machine X satisfy or should I try for something bigger and better?

As soon as I bought Perkons I sold my old LXR-02 thinking it was redundant. Why would I bother with such a pipsqueak when the Great Blue-Green Master had arrived? But regret soon set in and the LXR-02 returned. Why? Well, that's really the essence of this somewhat chaotic comparison. It's not an analysis of kick and snare drum frequencies, rolloff curves, or about particular waveforms. I'm not trying for lab test answers. This is a collection of critical impressions of both machines, looking at some of the fundamental differences in how they're played and programmed. I hope will be of some use and interest to you.

Perkons meets the Geiger Counter

"Am still in the "getting to know you" phase with the Perkons so am here combining a simple pattern with a couple of kit changes and a lot of track muting.

But the vital part is the WMD Geiger Counter pedal. I was very fortunate to find one of these brand new to buy (in Germany). I paid more than the old list price but everyone raves about how good this pedal sounds. And it is certainly a good fit for the Perkons. It's also helping with my color issues :) I don't touch any of the Geiger Counter's controls so this is not a showcase for the pedal but will get to that soonish. Or very soonish if there's any interest in a deep dive...

Here channel one of the Perkons is on its own output to the DAW and is otherwise completely uneffected.
The other three channels are all going through the Geiger Counter then into the Boss EQ.
No other effects or processing in the DAW this time except of course for the added samples - a two and half minute drum solo would have been too much even for me. You'll also see a few video edits where I've chopped this down from the 11-minute original.
Finally, the pattern actually starts on beat 13, which reminds me of the bad old days with the DB-01 before it got its "pattern rotate" feature and you could change the start point. Well, live and learn guv'nor.

"Here I'm showing the Perkons Voice eurorack module by Erica Synths which conveniently gives us access to all the wondrous Perkons HD-01 sounds but in 1/16th the size. Sure, it doesn't have the amazing sequencing capabilities but it does offer other interesting capabilities, like patch selection modulation and in general CV control over all parameters, which can yield beautiful results. And it's possible to get decay layers to up to 4 voices. So lots of drone and ambient sound source capabilities!

Sampling with Circuit Rhythm and Perkons HD-01 - Trovarsi Connects

"For this video, @Trovarsi sampled a bunch of one-shots and loops from the Perkons drum machine directly into the Circuit Rhythm. The fixed-length recording feature was used to grab an exact 8-step sequence to get some loops going and a few one-shots are quickly sampled as well.

Circuit Rhythm's stereo/mono inputs make it easy to sample sounds directly to the groovebox for quick sequencing and sample mangling fun. After sampling, you can quickly get into creative mode and make a sequence out of the samples as well as use some of the Grid Fxs for performance fun!

It's easy to create packs and download your samples from Circuit Rhythm too. Simply connect your Circuit Rhythm to the computer and go to Components.

Down in the Park [Numan cover] on Solina and Perkons

"Gary Numan's 1979 single 'Down in the Park' has always been a favorite of mine. This cover version (instrumental) has been made using only the Behringer Solina Strings and the Erica Synths Perkons drum machine. The Solina plays all the synth parts while the Perkons does drums and the sub-bass deep hits best revealed on headphones. The images are AI generated using Stable Diffusion.
It wasn't my aim to make a 1:1 copy but in the end I stayed pretty close to the original. Any time I started changing things it felt like I was insulting an old friend.

Erica Synths Perkon // Beats From Scratch

"In this live stream Matthew (aka EZBOT ) from Patchwerks gives us a thorough overview of the Erica Synths Perkons and makes some beats from scratch.

Perkons HD-01 is a device with four voices that can create hybrid sounds using both digital and analogue technology. Each voice has eight controls and can be triggered by drum pads with variable sensitivity. There are separate outputs and effects for each voice, and you can save up to 64 kits and patterns on the device, with more storage available on an SD card. The device also includes a delay and compressor, as well as an LFO for modulating sounds. It has a four-track sequencer with different timing options and probability controls, as well as MIDI inputs and outputs for connecting to other devices.
